New NPC concept in home .... Useless and boring?

I was disappointed by this. I personally. But I think it will improve over time, because it is completely boring thing. Yes, they can run around your house along the designated route and talk if you open a dialogue with them.

I would like an interesting system that would allow you to use your cosmetic collectibles on NPCs in your home, such as a miner's outfit and a two-handed cadwell shovel or miner's pick weapon outfit to make a sort of... mine in your home. And of course the same emotions. What's the point of being an NPC if he can't do the emotions you want.

Oh, yes, admit, you have long dreamed of a lustful Argonian maid in your house, dirty n'wah. :D

Well, or at least a unit of soldiers in your personal garrison

What houseguest need (if they really want to sell it for crowns) is more life and interactions. I really hope that pathfinding system will be more complex, because if house guest only stands and optonially walks with open map it just looks lame. What we need is more interactions with furnitures - sitting, laying down on bed, eating and more idle animations. Now it's just don't look like real guest, but like some lifeless dummy.

Gosh I so agree with this... we just got a massive house for free and all I see are posts about how the house guests could be better or that we don't have enough furnishing slots.

    Seriously??

But we don't talk about only this one house guest but about whole concept - there will be more guests (in crown store mostly), so this is not talking about free gift...

Of course, no one is complaining. The awards are very good, I am personally glad.

But let's look at the situation soberly: The house they gave us is still a HOUSE not a NEW MECHANIC or FURNISHING. There are so many of them, and this is just a great gift that the ZOS gave you. Personally, I even agree with 600 slots. It's just that some people need a flight of imagination more than the usual limit, and in a sense, yes, even 700 slots are often not enough. I would not mind buying even a slot expansion for crowns if it were possible.

But guests are a separate thing. This "Phaedra" guest was wadaned to us for a preliminary examination of the "possibilities" of guests in the house. Because soon (In Markarth) new guests will be created, this time for CROWNS. So, what to pay for if the guest plays the role of a mannequin? Yes, he's talking. One (random dialogue). And that's all he has to offer you as a "new guest concept" in your home. He is like a non-combat pet, only the pet will run with you in cyrodiil and in the open world, and will also move along the route like the "guest" NPC. So take a closer look at this.

In reference to how many furnishing slots... 600 is great for this house. I think of Bastion Sanguinaris and the limit is 700 there and so much bigger. For me, 600 is perfect here... and I would never question what has been given to me freely.

it's a step in the right direction. What I really want to see are customization options, such as the ability to place our own characters in our house. It'd help those of us who want to show our friends all of our characters but that don't want to suffer through 45 minutes of load screens just to do so.
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

They took this idea from FO76, if they went down that route fully (i.e. lots more dialogue, customisation and the house guests giving you quests) then it could end up being a really cool thing.

But I do like the pathing setup.

Why do people want to add such complicated things? Like being able to add collectible appearances to houseguests or place our own characters as quests. How are they supposed to implement that? They are trying to make ESO run smoother, not make a recipe for disaster with all the data that will require and bugs/glitches it will cause.

I'm happy with them just adding various houseguests. Including bards and generic ones I can place multiple of, like guards. Because having one single nord guard is weird.
Along with having them able to sit in chairs or tell them to do one of their animations. Like setting a dog pet to hold its lie down animation for that spot.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

    Poll is biased and unclear.

I very much appreciate this free entry into houseguests. I find Phedre's personality charming and am impressed by the depth of her dialogue so it is not repetitive. And we can certainly not argue with the price!

I won't be surprised at all if future houseguests might include bards, bakers and a variety of possibilities, but Phedre is a great opening entry in my opinion.

You, as a child, have never gone with your family, on Christmas morning, to your grand parents home, to meet with both sets of grand parents and your Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, and then sat around for 2 hours watching everyone open their presents - and at the end of it all, You got None.

I do not expect gifts, and when I do get one I appreciate it and Never say anything negative, no matter what it is.

    Hmm.

I guess I didn't expect more from houseguests, partially because the last "add NPCs to your house" thing I played with was strongholds in SWtOR. Which didn't even have pathing or interacting. They were just placed decorations.

    re: equipping the houseguests.
    1. Seems like asking for even more lag/etc - after all, if the house item placement limit is to keep the data overhead down, what would having customizable appearances for houseguests do?
    2. If you can equip them with whatever cosmetics you have, there's less need to get other Houseguests for their appearances.

The lovely free house and houseguest are wonderful! All, or at least most of us, are not complaining about that, but rather saying what features we would like to see in houseguests we would pay Crowns for.

A degree of customizability would be great — like in SWTOR you could customize not only the gear of your companions but choose from among a variety of skins/appearances (I forgot what they were called). That way even though everyone had among the same few companions, it didn’t look as much like lots of clones running around.

I feel like the dialogue options for the guard and other “staff” type houseguests are appropriate. With Phaedre, I was expecting to get into some dialogue trees about esoterica, her current research, or something, but maybe that would not add much. Now the bard from Rimmen, mmm, I’d gladly have her as a houseguest even without pathing or a single word to me beyond her beautiful songs!

Some houseguests I would love to see:
Additional merchant or barkeep types because whether making a store or a village, it would be helpful to have “storekeepers” of every race at least. I don’t mean more summonable merchants (although more options in bankers and merchants would be welcome too).
I think it’s cool that there are houseguests with their own personalities and backstories and am especially looking forward to adding another Alfiq to the party! :joy: I do think it would be awesome to also have sort of “blank slate” npc houseguests that you could choose race and basic appearance and even among basic temperament and dialogue options. I love to personalize things and try to set a mood or even tell a story with my builds. While the voice actors are all wonderful, I would really love to have npc houseguests where I could write whole original dialogue trees! Yes, people could use this to write really offensive stuff, but how is that any different from chat?

I have a personal house for each of my characters, and I treat these houses as though they were their real homes. I don't want people walking around my house so my characters don't either.

However I did put the guest in my new Antiquarians house because it's not a private home. I could imagine bartenders, waitresses, workers etc. in these types of homes.

Please read everything completely before jumping to conclusions. Nobody says that the free NPC in the house is "bad, you need to remove it and generally the zos is bad." Here we are talking about improving what will be and what is so far in the test stage. After all, soon a lot of NPCs will be sold in the Crownstore to which ....... U can Register a route and they will just walk along it, that's it, no more functions right now.

It is here that the discussion is going on in order to convey the fact that "to put it mildly, NPCs as a new mechanic need to be improved, because they look like a stub from a single piece"

It's not the free houseguest they're complaining about, its the concept. The fear is that when they start rolling out houseguests in the crown store next week that they won't be worth buying because they don't do anything. It would have been nice to have an extensive conversation involving question choices for us to ask them or perhaps havev them perform random emotes etc. People were excited about the possibility of adding future interesting houseguests but are worrying the excitement is unwarranted fearing they don't do anything but say 3 random phrases.
