"and also give Frost Staff ... opportunity to better fill the roles of support or DPS."

So... the dev update on U28 said ice staves would be given some viability for dps.

The patch notes *correct* this by omitting that the mention of "dps" ever happened.

Was this an intentional "thigh rub then stand up and leave"? Or was it a... "honest" mistake?
I can't do this anymore. Every small ... petit change that went against any semblance of sense has snowballed into an avalanche of (Penn & Teller:) Bulls...!

Gods, bless me with patience.

Applying chilled with a frost staff equipped will apply a debuff that makes the target take more crit damage
Add a Scribing skill that works like Arcanist beam.
    ---
Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.
    ---
Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.

You can apply this with the frost staff:

[NEW] Minor Brittle: Increases the target’s Critical Damage taken by 10%

which... requires one frost staff per entire team of... 4... 12... 24578

This doesnt make it dps viable. This makes it support

"Added viability" and "Viable" are 2 different things. It is still a support weapon, but it does add more damage now.

And given it also supports yourself, which for some is all that matters, so... /shrug

again. Ice staff doesnt do more damage. Everyone does. If ice staff is present. + It deals less damage on its most important skill, wall.

Again... this doesnt add viability to Ice Staff DPS role. It adds crit dmg to... EVERYONE.

You have to have it equipped to your front bar, and since it applies to everybody (and can only be applied once) this emphasizes its use for tanking.

Unfortunately they're just trying to force a frost tanking meta where nobody wants one. Frost staff is still completely inferior to both fire and shock for dps (and shock staff is still inferior to fire by a crazy margin, but that's another discussion).

I read this as a support buff but not a DPS buff as well. I might use this on my healer.

From PvP point of view doesnt see a sinlge improvement for ice staff. Ice Staff heavy attack is rudiculously clunky to ever use so this buffed shield with mana restore will barely change anything.

My question is... Why does Warden have 2 passives related to damage and Chilled... if frost staff isn't for damage?

I mean, this is basically the dev's saying "Magwarden was meant to be the bottom in DPS and f you if you like playing magden DPS."

Which I take kinda personally, as I've mained magden DPS since Morrowind.

The damage reduction on Wall of Elements really sucks, and for the sake of my magwarden I'm hoping it doesn't go live like that. Other than that, the changes were kinda meh. Minor Protection on Impulse is redundant since Wardens get it from Frost Cloak anyway, same with the projectile absorbing damage shield... which Wardens also already get.

Did they just look at some of the Warden skills and go "Hey, maybe we could just slap some of these effects on the frost staff?" and then called it a day?

Frost tanking is a cool (pun entirely unintended) concept, but since you can pretty much already do that by playing a Warden tank, they should leave the *destruction* staff for the DPS. People have been asking for more Magicka weapons anyway, so making an Alteration/Illusion staff skill tree for tanking/support would be the best course of action imo.
