Alternative to proposed AOE changes

So no one wants cooldowns on abilities and globally increasing cost per cast hurts solo/small scale much more than group play. Large coordinated groups can get kills on even tanky players in seconds just by focusing attention so they can afford to give up damage in their builds and go heavy enough on sustain.
If you want to improve performance by disincentivizing large groups spamming abilities without penalizing everyone else why not use Battle Spirit to add a ramping cost increase per group member to AOE abilities? 1% per member would barely register for groups of 2-6 but once you got up into full size groups it would be a serious penalty and would help balance out the massive advantage bigger groups have.

    The reason they want to reduce AOE use is to lower the amount of calculations (lag) the game needs to do. By implementing more calculations like you suggest, there would be no reason to make any changes from what the game is now.

    It would discourage the AOE in larger groups because it would cost 24% more for them. I'd argue keeping track of 3 second global cooldowns or ramping cost increases per cast would take more server calculations than a flat cost increase determined by group size. That only has to update with the server when your characters loads in somewhere or the size of your group changes.

    If they use those aoe changes on aoe dot abilities, it isnt bad thing because there is still duration of dot, skill is still in effect.
    Cooldown on single target direct damage spammables is just stupid idea.

    They should also finally rework rapid regen from resto staff skill tree so it hits only caster and can be used as healing. Radiating regeneration should be morph for healers (as it is with vigor)
