How can no one understood what they have said ....
IF you have the game currently for Ps4 or Xbox or you buy it BEFORE next console release- you get free upgrade.
HOWEVER when the next consoles are released and you buy the game for PS4 or The old Xbox and later on your buy the new console - then your game wont be upgraded and you will have to buy it again.
Jesus.....
A couple of things to take away from from the post:
- The only way to get the upgrade free is to have the current purchased before the new version of the game comes out. TRUE
- The current version will still work the same exact way as it does on the next gen systems. DEPENDS ON CONSOLE PROVIDER & ZOS
- It will use the same servers as they currently do. TRUE
- If you do not own the game at launch of the new version, you will have to pay more for it. DEPENDS ON CONSOLE PROVIDER & BETHESDA, LIKELY TRUE
- The upgraded version will not be included with the current game passes. DEPENDS ON CONSOLE PROVIDER
Well, I'm not too worried about buying a newer version of the game so it will work on the new platforms (if only it has way better graphics, etc.).
I have trouble with this statement: "you can continue playing with your same accounts via backward compatibility on your respective next-gen consoles without interruption or loss of progress--same characters, servers, everything!"
That seems to tell me that the newer platforms will have their own megaservers and we can't just port our old account info on the newer version of the game.
That's more depressing than having to spend more money on the game. Means we'd be stuck on old gen graphics and can't use or fancy new $$$ toy's graphic power to play ESO. Sad face!
Hmm, will there be a cross-play server between the Xbox and PC set up?
With the new xbox specs, there really isnt a reason not too now?
Cannot on the PS5 cos Sony still won't allow it but Microsoft is happy for cross-play.

It literally says that it will be the same characters and same servers on the next gen. All with updated graphics. The part you bolded is the complete opposite of the conclusion you got from it. The backwards compatibility statement is only in relation to not losing character and account progress.

I'll agree it can read that way as well, but why would they say it the way they did? I read it as New game = New characters/servers, backward compatibility game = old characters/servers.
I hope your right and I'm wrong, but it won't surprise me if they do end up having them separate.

You are new around here, right?TequilaFire wrote: »I will fire up my new PS5, download whatever version is available from the PS store for free because I already own it in the store library, link my PSN account to ESO and enjoy playing where I left off the last time I logged on.
Sounds like you will be playing the PS4 version of ESO for a while after you power up that PS5. ZOS is making no promises, giving no dates, it might not even be out this year. For all we know, they decided this week to make a PS5 version and have not even started.

You're not reading the statement correctly.Blacknight841 wrote: »this is the worst money-grab for the new consoles so far, and far surpasses the repackaging of Skyrim.

Yes I read it as this too, game probably cost the same but might not get default discounted.Blacknight841 wrote: »MurderMostFoul wrote: »Why are you assuming it will cost more for a new user on next gen?
We are thrilled to announce that if you currently own or plan to purchase an Xbox One or PS4 copy of The Elder Scrolls Online between now and the launch of ESO’s next-gen version for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation®5, you can upgrade free to that version of the game. We do not yet have a planned release date for the upgraded version of ESO, but stay tuned!
The conditional "Already own, or purchase before release = free upgrade" implies that if you don't it will not be free. Otherwise they could easily have stated, "We will be supporting the new Smart Delivery System, and any version of ESO will have enhanced performance on the new next gen console."
Seems pretty clear to me. If this is not the case, the wording definitely speaks the opposite.
No, the assumption is that if you don't already own the game you would have to pay for it. Not that it would cost more than it already does. Just that if you already own the game you won't have to pay for an upgrade.
Like, really. If you don't own the game right now, you have to pay for the game to start playing it. The same thing would be the case in the next generation. If you don't own a game, you have to buy the game first.
