I'm stuck between magsorc and magplar

While i like the mobility and concept of sorcerer, i also want to be healer in dungeons. Sometimes, i play pvp(both cyrodiil and battlegrounds) and i want to be able to get kills at least. I don't like pets much. I've tried both but i'm looking for experts' answers here. This will be my main so i don't want to regret my choice. I also play with about 150 ping if that matters for templar's melee skills or sorcerer ranged skills.

So i want:
Strong enough to get kills in pvp and a bit tanky
Healer in veteran dungeons and trials etc.
Quickly kill trash mobs.
Still be able to enjoy the class after level 30

Also, i'm open to any other(magicka) class recommendation. I played stamina characters enough and i'm bored with it now.

Thanks in advance :)

Make both, main the one you like more.

If you don't want to use a pet then templar is the more comfortable healer by a significant margin. Without the twilight matriarch sorcerer would be the worst class for healing, with only DK being in the discussion as an alternative.

If you don't mind using a pet than sorcerer is close enough to templar as a healer you should make your decision for other reasons.

Nobody knows where the PvP AoE changes will settle out, and in particular whether they'll be confined to PvP, but the set of possibilities being discussed looks truly awful for templars in PvP or in PvE DPS roles. They also are truly awful for sorcerer healers, but less bad for sorcerers otherwise.

"Healer in veteran dungeons and trials etc." for this most certainly templar cause templars have soooo many class healing abilities. And one of the first abilities you can get hits multiple enemies and heals you as it deals damage and makes it easier to solo content as well. Templars seem to do well in PVP as well.

Between these two I would recommend MagPlar based on your wishlist. It has strong native group healing and also strong AoE damage for fast dungeon clears. I'm not into PvE much but I did play every class as a healer for the undaunted passives and it was definitely the easiest on Templar, as it has native skills for group healing, cleansing and group resource return. I think when I healed on my Sorcerer I mostly just used the Resto staff skills and pretty much nothing from the class toolkit, so that was a forgettable experience.

Regarding PvP both classes are strong. Sorc is really easy to get kills with from a distance and it is very mobile. You do need to pay constant attention to your environment (situational awareness is very important) and shields though as when you get caught with your pants down, it's over. So it's really about avoiding damage before it happens. Personally I do not really like that playstyle because the shields expire every 6 seconds and it's too much micromanagement for me, I'm more into the brawler playstyle that suits the Templar better. If you get good at it though, you're going to be an absolute killing machine, bowing to no-one.

Templar is I think more forgiving in that regard with strong (allthough now weaker than it used to be) self-healing and a relatively easy to learn playstyle. It has native tankyness and a good offense. You can pretty much keep the pressure up on your opponents at all times and get a good burst with Purifying Light + Crescent Sweeps as a cheap ultimate. When it's time to go on the defensive, you will have all you need and can usually go back to attacking within a few GCD's, unless you run out of resources. In terms of mobility you have a good gap closer that also stuns and other than that you will have to slot skills such as Race Against Time or Mist Form (both are fantastic).

Mag Sorc. If they go ahead with some of those proposed AOE test changes, Templar’s will be totally dead.

I will probably cancel plus as well at that point.

This... Play each to level 10 minimum and decide which style you prefer.

From what you've said a Warden might actually be a better fit, they are great healers, if your healing you won't use the bear pet so no pet, they can be ridiculously tanky using some of the frost skills, and can pump out pretty decent burst damage, but if the AOE changes make it to PVE they will be crushed just as hard or harder than a Templar.

Templars are a lot of fun and really good to heal on, but they come up short in PVP, and will be even worse with the AOE changes. Sorc's just aren't great healers to be honest, they don't have the same number of buffs and debuffs available that Warden and Templar do.

Make both, give them a try. Then make some more. Give in to the dark side with an army of alts. Enjoy your stay.

Both classes can do what you want. Just depends on you build, and how you want to achieve it. Though for sorc healing you would need to go with a pet. Templar is the most new friendly and forgiving class to play in the game, but outside of Topply Charge doesn't have as good mobility. Sorc's Streak can be used without a target, and that gives it a leg up on moving around in PvP.

Plus Templars are actually pretty tanky, even in light armor. Stand in a Rune Focus glyph and cast an aedric spear ability, and you have a significant amount of resistances and damage reduction added. I was allowing a friend to kill me in Artaeum to get the wizard duel achievement and she was a nightblade, all divines, and she does good DPS, but when I put all my defensive buffs and HoT's on, she couldn't really hurt me at all (which surprised both of us!).

I’ve heard ZOS is about to gut templars....again.
With that said, i’d go with magsorc
