So wait.... how would you even go about pretending that a level 36 purple staff was CP 160? I mean.... I don't normally go looking for weapons and armor on the traders - I craft what I want and let it go at that - but seriously....

You list it at the going price for a CP 160 staff and hope the buyer assumes instead of looking at the level. You can also see this happen occasionally with certain potions that have the same name regardless of level.

We recently had someone in our guild we found was selling single chromium grains at just below chromium plating prices. One sold this way, because people shop quickly and will double click what looks at first glance to be a great deal. He wouldn’t stop, so unfortunately he got the boot because it is just not a good reflection on any guild. When someone gets fooled like that, it ruins their experience and makes it likely they will never shop at that trader again.

I'm not sure how much you'd get for a weapon that literally is a free quest reward.

A large percentage of people don't do that quest at CP160+

I would sell it to someone who wanted it for their level 36-ish character.

I'm not sure why the automatic judgment is that anyone selling it is trying to cheat people. There are people who want nice gear for their alts and don't mind dropping some coin on it. I might not charge as much as I know I could get for a CP160 version, but that doesn't mean it's trash.

True, some under-50 PvPer might want a staff.

I'm surprised the "sell" choice isn't more voted on. Tons of people list common style stones at way higher prices than the NPC vendor. Sometimes in the 100's.

That said, listing it and trying to pass it off as cp160 might be unfeasible since people might well filter out results that are not cp160 during their search, either in the guild store or on the TTC website.

You've never noticed blue normal motifs listed for hundreds of gold before? If it isn't a new player, I usually get the idea someone is either intentionally screwing prices to mess with TTC, or they're doing hunny things with gold selling.

There will always be players willing to cheat people. There was one person who came to the forum to ask if making a guild, getting the people to put high cost mats and gold in the guild bank, and then cleaning out the bank and disbanding the guild was breaking rules they might be banned for....

That was the normal price for blue motifs when the game launched. Regardless, very different example and the staff one is counting on people not noticing the level.

I wouldn't bother with a lightning staff MS because I usually fetch mine by means of the questline, same with the Briarheart dagger. However, I did pick the inferno staff up the other day, while levelling a level 36 alt. I will probably list it for 5k, purely because It's something that the odd twink will buy.

The important thing is to list low enough that the average buyer will not be gulled into thinking it's amazing deal. I have been caught twice this way. Once the item was a level 46 and the other, a ring, could not be deconned. Both times I didn't notice because the price was a good deal but not low enough to make me suspicious enough to take a closer look. An expensive mistake :(

I actually wish we had a item level filter in the buying page. I would pay for sub-level 50 sets, because I like leveling alts but couldn't be bothered to try search for them between all the CP160 gear.

Nothing immoral about selling a level 36 staff. It's up to the buyer to check that little box on the search window for CP 160.

Many times over the years I have completed low level gear sets like Mother's Sorrow for a lowbie by shopping the guild traders.

So there isn't a moral issue here at all. No one is tricking anyone.

If the character I was on was a Magicka character, I'd probably use it. Otherwise decon, because the probability of actually finding a buyer who wants a level 36 staff are slim.

I would probably decon, as I don't tend to list items that don't sell for that much.

However, as long as it wasn't listed for a large amount, I wouldn't view selling it as a scam.

As a buyer, I would expect to have to check level before buying and when I was levelling my char, after returning to the game (and before I could craft much), I sometimes bought blue, or purple, bows to level with, as bows didn't seem to want to drop.

So, sometimes, it helps people out to list lower level items for a reasonable price.

I would d/e it. Not worth trying to sell it to the limited audience at the appropriate level.

    Actually, you would be surprised.

I had a lot of success selling unwanted purple weapons and armour, while levelling (at reasonable prices!).

New players need weaps, can't craft their own yet and don't want to keep bothering people to craft stuff for them.

I think the issue for some is not whether or not it will sell, but rather whether it is worth the effort and guild store slot. I don't know what price you are selling for and how you are selling. If through guild store, it is hard to know if people bought by accident. If face to face, you obviously can know.

But if you have empty slots and are getting more than the average mat value, might as well put something in the empty slots.
