Welcome to The Elder Scrolls Online v6.1.0, introducing the Stonethorn DLC Game Pack and Update 27! This latest DLC features two new 4-player dungeons – one of which includes a Hard Mode for each boss – and is accompanied by several new item sets, collectibles, achievements, and titles.

In the base game, we’ve added two exciting features for the Housing system: Character pathing, which allows you to create custom paths for pets, mounts, and assistants, and Houseguests which are new types of collectible character for homes. This update also includes several performance improvements, optimizations, and stability enhancements, in addition to a large audit for all item sets to reduce their implications on performance.

This week, we’ve copied all PC NA characters, and also have two templates for you to utilize. We’re excited to read your feedback for this latest update, which is approximately 6.14GB in size. Enjoy!

    BASE GAME

    Performance Improvements
    • Server Optimization & Stability
      • Through optimizations to database workers, the game’s access to the database has been refined to ensure the system does not become overloaded when part of it generates a large amount of traffic or messages for a particular task. The optimizations ensure that there are enough database workers focused on the highest-priority critical game functions.
      • The player character loading process is now multi-threaded on the server to improve performance. The preparation of player data is handled asynchronously so as not to adversely affect other region operations.
      • Server performance has been improved in one of the least performant cases by distributing Trials more evenly across the system. This should ensure better overall performance in Trials, reducing the likelihood of getting a “bad instance” where enemies behave abnormally and latency is higher than normal.
    • Client Optimization & Stability
      • When using many different game assets, memory usage can spike and potentially get high enough to crash the game. We’ve made improvements to how the client handles these critical memory situations, better managing and prioritizing the most important elements in a scene. The chance that your game could crash in these situations has been significantly reduced.
      • Optimized the initial login flow; the time required to load when logging into character selection has been reduced.
      • Made some optimizations to reduce hitches when setting different outfits.

    Character Pathing in Housing
You can now tell your pets, mounts, and assistants to follow custom paths in your home! This new functionality is available to everyone, regardless of DLC ownership or ESO Plus status.
    • To set up a path, first enter the housing editor and target a pet, mount, or assistant. You’ll see a new “Create Path” keybind; hit that to start making your path. Once selected, you’ll see a node underneath that character, and another node held in your hand like a furnishing.
      • You can use these nodes to mark the path you want that character to follow, and once you confirm your path edits, the character will immediately start walking down the path from node to node.
    • Right now, for test purposes, you can place up to 50 nodes per path. This number will change over the course of this PTS cycle as we tune it to balance performance and flexibility.
    • You can also fine-tune your path with the following settings!
      • Movement speed to each node (Walk, Jog, Run, or Sprint)
      • Wait time at each node (0, 2, 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds)
      • Path type:
        • Ping Pong – The character will walk down the path until they hit the end, and then walk back to the beginning.
        • Loop – The last node in the path will be connected back to the first node, forming a circle.
        • Random – Each time the character reaches a node, they will choose their next location at random from the rest of the nodes in the path.
    • If you’d like to swap out the character on the path, no need to recreate the path from scratch – you’ll find a “Change Object” button in the Path Settings menu in each path, allowing you to swap in a new character from your collection.
    • As part of these changes, we’ve moved some keybinds that previously appeared at the bottom of the screen to the center of the screen near your targeting reticule, similar to where the interact prompt normally appears.

    Houseguests
Of course, pets, mounts, and assistants aren’t the only characters you might see walking around your friends’ homes! Houseguests are a new type of collectible character, which you can add to your home in the same way that you can add other collectibles. Each houseguest is unique and has a distinct appearance, perfect for adding a little bit of life to your home.
    • Several of these are currently available on the Crown Store for testing, with more to come in the future. These count towards the Special Collectible furnishing limit.

    New Homes
There are two new homes to test in this update, each available with Unfurnished templates.
    • Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery
      • Tucked away in scenic Hjaalmarch, this rustic gallery contains plenty of space to display all manner of antiquities. A gorgeous waterfall provides water to a private pond, creating a perfect setting for scholarly gatherings.
    • Stillwaters Retreat
      • This Frozen Coast location features a Dwarven passage that leads past two deep alcoves and out to a frozen lake set amid the natural beauty of Skyrim. Hidden away beyond the lake, an ice cave awaits those seeking further respite from the world.

    New Furnishings
    • Solitude Furnishing Plans
      • 24 new Solitude furnishing plans can now be earned from Skyrim Daily Reward Coffers, acquired by completing dailies for the Swords of Solitude or the Coterie of Organized Scholars in Western Skyrim.
      • These plans include a variety of structural furnishings, as well as a small number of new courtyard furnishings.
    • Mastercraft Mediator Furnishing Plans
      • Rollis Hlaalu, the Mastercraft Mediator, has added seven new furnishing plans to his wares:
        • Blueprint: Solitude Game, Blood-on-the-Snow
        • Design: Solitude Smoking Rack, Fish
        • Diagram: Vampiric Chandelier, Azure Wrought-Iron
        • Formula: Winter Cardinal Painting, Work in Progres
        • Pattern: Solitude Loom, Warp-Weighted
        • Praxis: Ancient Nord Monolith, Head
        • Sketch: Blackreach Geode, Iridescent
      • He's also reduced the price for the following seven older plans to 100 Writ Vouchers from 125, but will only sell them to those who have unlocked the "Unsurpassed Crafter" achievement:
        • Blueprint: Elsweyr Well, Covered
        • Design: Elsweyr Bread Basket, Feast-Day
        • Diagram: Elsweyr Gong, Ornate
        • Formula: Elsweyr Mortar and Pestle, Engraved
        • Pattern: Elsweyr Bed, Senche-Raht
        • Praxis: Khajiit Sigil, Moon Cycle
        • Sketch: Elsweyr Game, Swan Stones
    • Achievement Furnishings
      • You’ll also find two new achievement furnishings on Undaunted Quartermasters, unlocked for purchase by completing the associated dungeons:
        • Castle Thorn Gargoyle
        • Stone Garden Tank, Rootbound

    Battlegrounds Outfit Styles Rework
We’ve improved the experience of earning the original 3 Battlegrounds Outfit Style Pages: Firedrake, Pit Daemon, and Stormlord. Previously, obtaining the final few pieces of each outfit style could take a very long time, and those pieces became incredibly rare. These outfit pieces are now obtainable at a steady and standard rate.

    Outfit Style Cost Reductions
After re-evaluating some extreme in-game gold pricing for certain outfit pieces, we have reduced the gold cost for applying the following Outfit Styles by 50% from the following sets:
    • Motifs
      • Apostle Motif Pieces
      • Ashlander Motif Pieces
      • Celestial Motif Pieces
      • Ebonshadow Motif Pieces
      • Ebony Motif Pieces
      • Glass Motif Pieces
      • Hlaalu Motif Pieces
      • Certain Honor Guard Motif Pieces
      • Redoran Motif Pieces
      • Telvanni Motif Pieces
    • Outfits
      • Worm Cult Motif Pieces
      • Fire Drake Outfit Pieces
      • Glenmoril Outfit Weapons
      • Gloomspore Outfit Weapons
      • Pit Daemon Outfit Pieces
      • Storm Lord Outfit Pieces
      • Werewolf Knight Outfit Weapons
    • Single Weapons
      • Sword of Jyggalag
      • Antiquities Pickaxe
      • Skull of Corruption
      • Spellbreaker Shield

    New Motifs
There is one new motif available for testing that will be released with the launch of Stonethorn. Sea Giant Motif chapters can now be obtained from completing the weekly quest for completing Kyne's Aegis. The style item, Sea Snake Fang, can be acquired from bosses inside the trial.

Update 28 Prologue Quest – A Gray Host Rises
Join Gwendis of House Ravenwatch as she seeks to uncover the mysterious origins of the dark army that now marches on Skyrim. Investigate historic sites across Tamriel with ties to the legendary Gray Host and uncover new revelations that will force the Ravenwatch to confront their secretive past.
    • To begin the Darkstorm Prologue Quest for testing, you’ll need to first obtain the free Crown Store Quest Starter item, the House Ravenwatch Contract.
    • Venture to Daggerfall, Davon’s Watch, or Vulkhel Guard (depending on your Alliance) and find Gwendis outside the city walls.
    • Talk to Gwendis to begin the first of two quests: The Ravenwatch Inquiry

    General
Developer Comment: As part of the ongoing efforts to help improve performance, all item sets in the game have been updated to use better logic when attempting to determine their proc conditions with your actions, and will send significantly less messages to the server (ultimately being less taxing) when they fail to meet their conditions. We’ve also audited the vast majority of item sets in terms of their power, so make sure to check out the itemization section, and bring a snack!

In addition to item sets, many abilities have received backend improvements to their scripting to help reduce unnecessary effects, checks, and logic parsing, and will now more accurately follow their described behaviors, such as proc conditions.

We’ve also introduced some new Area of Effect (AoE) adjustments to the backend operations to help reduce their messaging and overall requirements to ping an area. Currently, we’ve only applied this to Dragonknight Standard and its morphs, as well as some monster abilities. We plan to monitor the overall improvements in a real combat environment, then slowly comb through old AoE abilities and apply the changes where applicable.
    • Fixed an issue where some projectiles could hover around your character in some very rare cases.
    • Fixed an issue where newly equipped weapons could occasionally not appear.
    • Your characters have now been taught more eloquent manners, and eat more subtly if blocking. This will fix an issue where eating while holding block could result in truly barbaric visual results.
    • Fixed an issue where cast time abilities could miss an invisible target while a detection potion was active.

    Buffs and Debuffs
    • Fixed numerous instances where Minor Vulnerability from certain sources, such as Teleport Strike, were not being detected properly by sets like Icy Conjuror.

    Dragonknight
    • Ardent Flame
      • Dragonknight Standard: Fixed an issue where the visual effects for this ability and its morphs could end early in some cases.
        • Shifting Standard (morph): Fixed an issue where this ability would last longer than intended in some cases.
    • Draconic Power
      • Inhale
        • Deep Breath (morph): This morph’s explosion now deals 25% more damage. The initial hit no longer ranks up by 1.1% damage per rank, but the final hit now does.
        • Draw Essence (morph): This morph now heals for up to 147% of the damage done, up from 100%, and ranks up by 1% per rank. The final explosion of this ability no longer increases by 1.1% damage per rank.

    Necromancer
    • Fixed an issue where casting a tether ability could sometimes cause your character to turn around and face the opposite direction you were facing.
    • Grave Lord
      • Shocking Siphon
        • Detonating Siphon (morph): This ability’s final explosion now occurs when the tether ends for any reason, rather than only if the final duration was met.
    • Bone Tyrant
      • Grave Grasp: This ability has received significant improvements to its functionality and now does the following:
        • The first area now snares enemies hit by 30%, down from 50%.
        • The second area now immobilizes enemies hit for up to 4 seconds, rather than snaring them.
        • The final area now stuns enemies hit for up to 3 seconds, rather than snaring them.
        • Each area continues to apply Minor Maim.
          • Ghostly Embrace (morph): This morph now increases the duration of all negative effects applies from this ability, rather than adding an Immobilize to each field, as that is now a base line experience.
          • Empowering Grasp (morph): This morph’s Empower now lasts for the full 5 second duration, rather than being consumed on use.

    Nightblade
    • Assassination
      • Grim Focus:
        • This ability and its morphs now grant 2% Critical Damage and Healing per stack, rather than reducing your damage taken by 2% per stack, in order to help this ability feel more aggressive and assassination oriented.
        • Stacks removed from these abilities after ending combat will now only be removed in PvP zones, rather than all the time, fixing numerous issues where you could lose all stacks generated where you appeared to still be in combat.
      • Master Assassin:
        • This passive’s Weapon and Spell Damage is now granted to your damaging attacks against enemies you are flanking, rather than granting a universal amount while sneaking or invisible.
        • The Weapon and Spell Damage is now a flat 129/258, rather than granting 5/10% of your current amount.
    • Shadow
      • Shadow Cloak:
        • Fixed an issue where this ability was granting immunity to projectiles from targets that had detection potions active.
        • Updated many cases where this ability’s invisibility was removed where it shouldn’t have been, such as against Ballista.
      • Summon Shade: This ability and the Dark Shade morph can now be cast without a target, as Shadow Image can.
        • Shadow Image (morph): The shade from this ability no longer has player collision active, to prevent issues where it could become stuck or could be used as a stepping stool. Please be more considerate of your shade’s feelings, as it is an extension of you, and you are worth it.
    • Siphoning
      • Soul Shred: Fixed an issue where the morphs of this Ultimate would fail to stack from multiple casters in some cases.
        • Soul Siphon: Fixed an issue where the heal beam on allies was breaking sooner than intended. It will now snap at 30 meters, rather than 25 meters.
      • Strife:
        • Increased the damage done for this ability and the Funnel Health morph by approximately 39% to ensure they properly adhere to Heal over Time standards.
        • Fixed an issue where both of these abilities would attempt to apply a Heal over Time even if the target dodged the attack, causing the empty HoT to override any existing casts.

    Sorcerer
    • Dark Magic
      • Crystal Shard:
        • Reduced the cast time of this ability and its morphs to 800ms, down from 1 second.
        • Reduced the damage done from these abilities by approximately 21%.
        • Reduced the cost to 2700, down from 2970.
        • These abilities have a new affix, where after successfully casting, your next non-Ultimate ability used within 3 seconds costs 10% less.
          • Crystal Fragments (morph):
            • This ability can now proc off itself.
            • Slightly reduced the damage done from the special proc (< 1%).
            • Introduced a safety window after activating the special proc to help avoid immediately queueing the base version’s cast right after.
          • Crystal Blast (morph): This ability has been reworked into a Stamina morph, and renamed to Crystal Weapon. It is now an instant-cast ability that causes your next Light or Heavy Attack made within 4 seconds to deal additional damage, equal to the standard spammable amount such as Lava Whip or Veiled Strike. Enemies hit by this ability will their armor reduced by up to 1000.
      • Encase: This ability and its morphs now restore up to 66% of their ability costs if no targets are immobilized from the cast.
    • Daedric Summoning
      • All pets from this skill line now use a hybrid of your Spell Damage and Max Magicka, rather than purely Max Magicka. This change was done to reduce the total power of these abilities when stacking a singular stat.
      • Rebate: This passive now restores 150/300 Magicka or Stamina (determined by what the ability cost) when one of your Daedric Summoning non-Ultimate abilities end, rather than restoring Magicka when your Daedric Summoning pets died or were unsummoned.
      • Summon Unstable Familiar: Fixed an issue where this ability and its morphs’ special Area of Effect attack had a higher chance of applying Concussed than intended.
        • Summon Volatile Familiar (morph): Fixed an issue where this ability’s stun applied on the second to last tick, rather than on the final tick.
        • Summon Unstable Clannfear (morph):
          • This ability’s special ability is now halved when healing itself.
          • Fixed an issue where the taunt this pet could cast was on its global cooldown, which could lower its DPS.
    • Storm Calling
      • Bolt Escape
        • Ball of Lightning (morph): Fixed an issue where this ability’s actual ball of lightning could count towards successful kills in some cases.
        • Fixed an issue where the ball would leave a corpse for a brief moment.

    Templar
    • Aedric Spear
      • Burning Light: This passive has been slightly reworked so that the damage now triggers when you deal damage 4 times within rapid succession to an enemy with an Aedric Spear ability, rather than having a 25% chance to proc per hit. Note that the time window is long enough that abilities that hit at least once every second between will continue to proc this passive.
      • Puncturing Strikes: Reduced the tick frequency of this ability and its morphs to 333ms, down from 300ms, to better sync its damage with its animation.
        • Puncturing Sweeps (morph): Fixed an issue where the heal from this ability was based on the damage of the initial hit, rather than the amount of damage done to each individual target, resulting in a significant reduction to healing when hitting multiple targets. With this fix, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the Templar’s ability to stay in the thick of the fight.
      • Radial Sweep: This ultimate and its morphs now have a minor cast time to help better sync their damage and animation, as well as adding more time for counter play to react.
    • Dawn’s Wrath
      • Backlash:
        • Fixed an issue where this ability and its morphs stored much more damage done to the target than the tooltip stated. This will make the ability require more damage, particularly in PvP, in order to reach its maximum damage.
        • Fixed an issue where these abilities did not reset their stored damage values after detonating in some cases.
    • Restoring Light
      • Cleansing Ritual
        • Ritual of Retribution (morph): This morph now sacrifices its healing potential for the damage, rather than adding damage on top of the healing. The damage now increases by 5% each tick for the duration of the ability, up to a max of 35%.
      • Healing Ritual:
        • Reduced the cost of this ability and its morphs to 5265, down from 7290.
        • Decreased the healing of these abilities by approximately 25%. This will set a new AoE heal spammable standard, where the healing and cost are 50% more than an AoE damage spammable counterpart, which we will monitor and adhere other abilities to in a future update.
      • Light Weaver:
        • This passive has been updated so healing an ally under 50% of any Restoring Light ability restores 1 / 2 Ultimate, rather than restoring 1 /2 Ultimate when healing an ally under 60% health with Healing Ritual.
        • This passive no longer extends the duration of Restoring Aura.

    Warden
    • Animal Companions
      • Swarm
        • Growing Swarm (morph): Fixed an issue where this ability couldn’t be cast while silenced.
    • Green Balance
      • Healing Seed: The synergy from this ability and its morphs no longer count as a Green Balance skill, as synergies are not meant to be enhanced by their respective skill line’s passives; they are activated by allies and not the caster themselves.
        • Budding Seeds (morph):
          • Fixed an issue where the animation for recasting this ability could force its animation after a delay, rather than skipping its animation if you were already preoccupied.
          • Fixed an issue where the heal from this ability could happen twice in some very specific situations.

    Weapon
    • Destruction Staff
      • Fixed an issue where Heavy Attacks from Lightning Staves would quickly stutter after immediately starting to channel in some cases.
      • Tri Focus:
        • Fixed an issue where the splash damage from Lightning Staves’ Heavy Attacks was double hit by Battle Spirit.
        • Fixed an issue where this attack could also proc the Concussed status effect, despite Light and Heavy Attacks being unable to inflict status effects.
    • Dual Wield
      • Fixed an issue where Light Attacks from this weapon type did not break stealth.
    • Restoration Staff
      • Fixed an issue where Heavy Attacks from this weapon would quickly stutter after immediately starting to channel in some cases.
    • Two Handed
      • Critical Charge
        • Stampede (morph): This morph now also causes the initial hit to deal Area of Effect damage on impact.
      • Reverse Slash
        • Reverse Slice (morph): Fixed an issue where the splash damage of this ability was double hit by Battle Spirit.

    Armor
    • Heavy Armor
      • Unstoppable
        • Immovable (morph):
          • This morph now ranks up in duration of the Major Resolve granted, rather than the duration of CC immunity granted.
          • Fixed numerous issues where the CC immunity from this ability operated differently than other sources.

    World
    • Vampire
      • Fixed an issue where two Vampires could feed on the same target at the same time. Please keep this sort of activity to the privacy of your own homes.
      • Blood Scion
        • Swarming Scion (morph):
          • Fixed an issue where this ability did not display a hostile telegraph.
          • Fixed an issue where the damage from the bat swarm could fail to break the caster’s Stealth or Invisibility.
      • Eviscerate: Decreased the execute multiplier on this ability and Arterial Burst to 33%, down from 50%.
        • Blood for Blood (morph):
          • Decreased the execute multiplier on this morph to 60%, down from 100%.
          • This ability now ranks up in 5% execute scaling damage per rank, rather than scaling in 1.1% damage per rank.
          • After casting this ability, you cannot be healed by allies for 5 seconds.
      • Mist Form: Fixed an issue where speed ribbons would appear while channeling this ability, which applied to an invisible husk of your old form before you twisted it to gain unholy powers.
    • Werewolf
      • Call of the Pack: Fixed an issue where this passive was not counting your Dire Wolves in some cases.
      • Pounce: Added additional fail safes for this ability and its morphs to help reduce situations where you could become locked out after using the Carnage Override.
        • Brutal Pounce (morph): Fixed an issue where this ability’s damage was split into two attacks, rather than a singular attack of Area of Effect damage.
      • Roar
        • Ferocious Roar (morph): Fixed an issue where the attack speed from this ability was applying to things other than Heavy Attacks.

    Alliance War
    • Assault
      • Vigor: This ability is now first in the skill line to unlock, and has swapped places with Rapid Maneuvers in efforts to help builds focused on Stamina to have a healthier leveling experience. Previous XP gained in both of these skills will be retained, but if your Assault skill line is too low to obtain the 3rd skill, you will have to level it in order to gain access to Rapid Maneuvers again.

    Item Sets
Developer Comment: As mentioned in the intro, all item sets have been audited to reduce their implications on performance. Proc sets will no longer do additional range checks on events that already passed one (such as an event triggering off of a Light or Heavy Attack), will no longer send messages to the server when they fail or are on cooldown, and are properly labeled as a proc set to ensure they do not trigger other proc sets. During this audit, we have also brought almost every set in the game under our set bonus efficiency standard, which breaks down a set into its total worth of stats provided, plus modifiers such as how difficult or specific the set is to use/engage with! Due to the staggering size of this list, we’ve broken up the changes into more specific categories.

Additionally, we have adjusted all item sets that have radius checks for friendly targets to no longer target all allies, but instead target group members only. This will reduce the amount of parsing and messaging dealt by the server and reduce the staggering power many of these sets can enable in non-grouped content. This change affects the following item sets:
    • Almalexia's Mercy
    • Automated Defense
    • Brands of Imperium
    • Coldharbour's Favorite
    • Draugr's Rest
