You can go from 1-7 in a few hours, and grind out the last 3 levels in a few more hours. There are guides online on how to grind it up. Not saying I'm a huge fan of disappearing leads, though.

Time spent progressing and having fun is not wasted.

This is the opposite of that.

Not all gold leads require 10 to scry, do all the ones you can then... I got from 7 to 10 in a few hours scrying the gold lead in Coldharbour over and over. It dropped like crazy from gathering nodes in the zone. What level are you at now?

Thanks for the e-card. Doesn't really apply in this situation as

    1. I still have 3 more days to level my scrying
    2. The complaint is that system isn't casual friendly but clearly designed to get people to buy Greymoor.

I'll be ignoring work and my social life to get the last of these leads, which are all based on RNG so who knows if I'll make it in time.

I'm at lvl 9 and a half. My choices of leads at the moments are green freebies or farming world bosses.

Perfect, go to Coldharbour, the gold lead there can be scryed at I think 7, it gives you 10 per solve and I'm not joking when I said it dropped like crazy. Hit the alchemy nodes in Hollow City, I'd get it about every fifth node, again and again and again. It's called Void-Crystal Anomaly. I have I think 18 of them to place in my house now LOL. It's a conservatory crystal house item.

I did the exact same thing. That lead dropped 5 times for me in like 10 alchemy nodes. Nirnroot seemed almost guaranteed to drop it.

I got from 7 to 10 by doing Mythics. Each is 50 experience points. No reason to farm gold leads before you can scry them. 3 days is a bit tight, good luck.

I am wondering about the longevity of my leads via XBONE, as well...

    Tomorrow or gone?

Edit: I have several reward boxes / crates with duplicate gold leads in them. What happens to these, please?

This is a time I agree with OP. I cannot recall any system in the game that is time-gated like this. Yes, I know it gets better, but that does not make it a good design.

I've been playing ESO for 5 years. If the devs allows it I'll be playing it for another 5 years. A Role Play Gamer with this mindset never wastes their time as they have all the time in the world.

If you have an active lead, or a lead you already scryed that is part of a composite item you have not yet completed (ie, the mount or a Mythic item), they will go into the Void.

I can understand you. 5 days left, 30 experience points for scrying left, just because I picked up a lead from a random node in Bleakrock. I would have preferred to taking the leveling process slow, but now it feels like I'm being punished for not rushing it.

I agree with OP. Losing access to leads you legitimately earned due to some arbitrary skill restriction preventing you from hunting the relic is just simply not a pleasant experience. Players shouldnt be penalized for playing the game and leveling the skill normally.

Thanks.. I don't mind the grind but there's definitely a push to grind these out as fast as possible.

So you’ve had the leads for 27 days already... [snip]

The lead system is doing exactly what it is supposed to do... selling Greymoor (given Harrowstorms and the questline are so amazingly underwhelming it’s a good thing something is selling it). And while levelling scrying is insanely tedious, it’s the first 5 levels that are truly appalling, the same green/ blue crap over and over and over again. Once you can actually scry purple stuff it gets far easier and more rewarding. It won’t take you nearly 3 days to get from level 9 to level 10 and you don’t even need to be level 9 to scry the good stuff.

Most players I know can level scrying and get their dwarven mounts and mythic in a weekend

You had 30 days to level your scrying to 10.
Disappearing leads sucks and it shouldn't be a mechanic IMO, but you can choose to either ignore them if you aren't interested in antiquities or Greymoor right now, or you can use those 30 days to progress the skill line.

I was able to get to 10 by farming the gold lead you get from nodes in Coldharbor, as someone else suggested. They dropped from alchemy, wood and cloth nodes for me. It's a high enough drop rate that it's worth it.

This. The system is though out well enough - when you get a lead there's plenty of time to decide if you want the item and level skills.

I *kinda* started with that plan (though I didn't know that the Coldharbour gold lead was so easily repeatable), except I was stymied right away by the dig site being in the far north of Coldharbour, tip-top of the map, where I don't have access yet.
(I had not finished the main quest on any of my characters, yet).

So I'm having to run through the Coldharbour questline, and I assume complete it, before I can dig it up for the first time.

Not a catastrophe by any means--I think I have two or three quests remaining (I think the next quest I do will unlock the Chasm, if I remember correctly)-- but it IS another thing to slow me down, and I only have a few days left before my most coveted gold lead expires. (I am currently only about 50% through Level 7 on Antiquities, and the Brazier of Frozen Flame requires level 10 to scry.)

At least finding out that the Coldharbour gold lead drops easily was a boon, so I can now focus all of my attention there, instead of working on purples and golds in other areas, too.

...and our time, of course, is really all we have.

Plus, on a slightly less esoteric note, I have found finding the first of certain leads very easy, but finding duplicates of them pretty much impossible.

Whereas, I have found three of certain other leads, I didn't really need one of, very easily.

Yep. As far as I know leads have hidden timer (not sure, but it is 1 month or something).

As for OP problem... If the lead is top quality, then you need maxed skill line. But it is not that hard to max the skill line. Do all "free" leads from base game zones. You know, the ones you can get straight away. Better quality leads, give more exp for the skill line. So do green / blue / purpule from each zone (you can get purpule treasure lead only once per zone).

That should be enough. If you have some DLCs / Chapters, then do those too. If you run out of zones, just go to smallest zone and do green / blue lead over & over (green & blue are repetable). Do it till you reach max skill line level.

But... but... Leads go into your library. They don't go in your bag. Why would they come up with something that feeble? Leads disappear. Pfft. *insert eyeroll here* ZoS. ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! What is going on with you?!?!?! This was such a bad plan!
