Why did the cost of “Mark of the Pariah” five-year-old set skyrocket?

I have been using serval sets of “Mark of the Pariah” on different characters sense the release of Orsinium. Anyway, recently I turned one of my PvE tanks into a PvP char and I went to go build anther set of 5 impend Pariah of blue or purple that I found on TTC and turn them into gold, which use to cost me about 30k for all 5 pieces then the market rate for 8 pieces of gold temper last time about 60 days ago it was 45k for 8 temper x 5 items for each armor piece so 255k total +- for a 5 pieces of Pariah gold-ed out minus the glyphs. That use to be a really great value for 5 pieces. Now I am seeing just the purple cuirass going for 90k, the greaves if you look very hard also for around 90k however most are 200k, sabatons average now around 25k, gauntlets average around 10k, and same for the girdle. So, if you add it all up Pariah is now 225k for blue, or purple then to gold it all out and it is now 450k for an impend body set. Does anybody know why the 176% increase after the last patch for Pariah? Pariah did not change stats and if you want to spend the time to farm it the drop rate is the same.

Man, that sucks. I get so tired of these streamer follow the bouncing ball builds. Part of the fun of this game is making builds yourself or joining a guild and getting help from veterans on builds.

You'd more likely pair a set like stuhn's or spinners with pariah to ensure you're still outputting decent enough damage.

Pariah has always been a decent set for pvp (in the right hands it can make a player really annoying to kill) but with the recent changes there was bound to be an increase in demand for it. Its a rock solid overland set. Then there's also the event right now, so even more people looking at it from word of mouth or online builds. So the answer to OP question is for the same reason they're interested in buying it.

Don't forget the change to vampires. Don't get the passive of damage mitigation free any more unless in a higher stage which most stamina will not be in. So some may be looking to Mark of the Pariah to help with that.

It could just be the healing nerfs to Battle Spirit which made this set far more useful in comparison to pre healing nerf, but sure blame the streamers...

I wouldn't say they're at fault for it, but big streamers do have an influence. I was looking to do a Magika build which happened to run two sets which were also featured in an Alcast build. He had a full set of 'A' on the body with divines and the other as jewelry and weapon. Prices for body pieces in divines 'A' (not giving an actual name because I frankly can't remember which way around it was, I remember for sure that one of the sets was Crafty Alfiq) in divines where insanely high, while the same pieces from the other set were basically given away. Similarly, jewelry and weapons from set 'B' were so much more expensive than those from set 'A' (both light overland sets, mind you). Ended up just switching the sets around and made the build for so much cheaper. I also had a good laugh xD.

As for Pariah, I also noticed how much the prices spiked. I managed to get a full set of impen body pieces for less than 50k not too long before the patch. A friend was looking to buy one as well post patch and I couldn't believe the prices he was telling me about. There's multiple reasons why it spiked, but I do find the set to be very good this meta.

My assumption would be that it is being used in conjunction with Vampire builds & sets that pimp damage output based on missing health, so this set is mitigating the loss of health, with very high resistances.

But why buy it? Run around overland and just collect it.

Maybe a streamer released a pariah build but more likely the cause is that there's a lack of viable alternatives in pvp.
Tanky monster sets were nerfed and the go-to defensive set for pvp took two big hits (nerfed the bonus of impreg and malacath makes it redundant).
So people are left with armour master and pariah essentially, mag has swift too but apart from that there's no good sets that provide mitigation afaik.

So a streamer/youtuber finds a way to deal with the current healing reduction with a perticular set so that players who don't have enough time or mindset to theorycraft builds, is at fault to do so.

    Here it comes....
If you don't like it, then you don't have to use it or else, deal with it in your own way.

Now to the point of pariah, I don't like the set, its just a personal preference because I'd rather find some active way of avoiding damage, than a set doing it passively for me. But hey, thats my PoV. Or I'd rather work on getting the lost healing from some other set while still bein able to sustain and do damage.

I noticed the same thing with footman (from DSA). I wanted to try some dumb build to block vKA empowered heavies on my sorc (Turned out bound Aegis is enoug), and the cheapest shield I found was worth 100k. I don't know who uses that, but the prices were very high for what it is.

Depends on how you play a certain character, for my stamblade sniper I do the same thing, it's a glass cannon which still have really strong heals, which along with dodging, cloak and being aware of LOS can survive a lot despite being built to be two shotted by another sniper.

Now I'm leveling a magdk for use in Cyro, my view is a bit different as the way I want to play it, pariah is very much a set I'm looking to use for that character.

And as far as alcast and pvp goes, I tend to look there as a reference when I'm going with a spec I'm not used to. But I always end up changing most of it while I theory craft. It's a nice starting point, but that's about it.

And having multiple setups is something I don't often see mentioned. I use 3 different for my sniper depending on what I wanna do in cyro, one is a pure gank build that I rarely use anymore, one is a sneak/speed build for when I wanna be annoying, scout or get somewhere fast. The last and main one have evolved into more of a hybrid build that somehow works in most situations.

Depends on your definition of Meta. If you go by the 'textbook' definition (most effective tactics available), I would tend to agree with you. If you go with the more common definition, aka what is most commonly ran, I would definitely argue that influencers of any kind are those who determine it. But just to be 100% clear, I am not saying this as if it were a bad thing or something that the influencers should be faulted for.

Streamers and any content creators shouldn't get any sort of hate or anger shot at them. They are just playing a build that they enjoy, the only difference between them and say you or I, is that they have a platform for all to see them.

Pariah gives the highest source of resistances in the game. It only makes sense that it would now jump up in value.

But please, keep blaming streamers and the people following their builds for balance changes that inconvenienced you economically. The way I see it, making builds is more fun this patch than last one because of that change.

Most people likely don't research sets and builds on their own, they go off what their friends tell them to do. So if a streamer did point this set out, I could see how this could spread via word of mouth from streamer and through the community.

There is an easy way to test who is the cause ZoS or a streamer.
    1) Check ALL the pieces stream watchers will fellow step by step so it the streamer used boots of X so will they and the waist will be cheap. If all pieces are are at a higher price it’s most likely not a streamer.

    2) What is the price of other sets that do a similar job if base resistance set are unchanged but for a few it’s a new streamer build if all base resistance sets are more expensive it’s a meta shift.

    It’s just that simple.
