Im in the same situation as you, although i already made my decision to start over on pc because i was building a new pc anyways to play other games so i thought id jump back into eso and see what its like compared to xbox.
I came from xbox after playing for over a year. maxed cp and many achievements. Its going to be a tough grind but i really did enjoy this game before console performance got unbearable probably around when Elswyer was released mid last year.
So far on my new gaming pc, the difference is incredible. loading times are super fast, gameplay is alot smoother especially in populated areas (you can actually see players and abilities/animations working) if your coming from playing on console you'll know what i mean lol.
    good luck starting over !
Can you help me figure out which class to start with? I just need one main crafter and then a dungeon runner. I used to use a StamCro to solo dungeons and a Magsorc for pvp.
    How did you get gold?

I'd strongly advise against buying ESO through Steam, it just introduces a lot of login etc problems and is completely unnecessary. If you must get it that way, at least do some research here on Steam first.

As you're used to playing on console without add-ons I'd also recommend starting on PC without them. Get the feel for the game's performance on PC and then if you do decide to use add-ons you'll be better able to judge which if any affect your performance. Don't assume that all PC players use them, they don't, and particularly not the hand-holding ones that show you what to do and where to go the whole time, for many they just trivialise the game to the point where people then complain that it's too easy and there isn't enough to do!

Oh understood. How do you get it without Steam? And also I heard adding can be annoying. I only wanted the add on that shows where books and shards are

Cant give you any class advice at this point, i mained a argonian dk tank and did some dps on a stam dk redgaurd. dps was never my strong point. I know alot has changed since 6 months ago when i last palyed so im just taking it as i go at this stage, i think if i read too much into it all i will get too overwhelmed and it will put me off wanting to play. If i can give you any advice i would just pick a build you a familiar with and go from there, at least thats just what im doing

Buy it from the website or e.g. Amazon. You need to research the website and here to establish the best value version in terms of DLCs and Chapters, depending on whether you'll be subscribing.

Those are among the very add-ons that trivialise the game in my view (not that I use any despite being on PC), but each to his own!

Regarding your questions about pvp classes, mag sorcs are going pretty strong currently with plenty of set ups to not only deal damage but also allow survivability (crafty alfiq, necropotence...); not to mention the new addition of mythic items are allowing mag sorcs to hit like a truck. Magplars are currently in an okay place for pvp (heal nerf did them dirty), mostly just magplar healers in pvp tbh. Stam sorcs in my opinion need a buff to help class identity since all the damage abilities slotted will be from weapon skill lines. Your best bet in pvp would be to roll Stamcro (I love my stamcro). They not only have a lot of damage mitigation (From spirit mender) but also Constant uptime of penetration and major defile, allowing for the perfect pvp build for both survivability and damage.

Okay interesting. Magsorc is my favorite. When I left, it was after Rune Cagecwad dodgeable and delayed. Did they fix that?
Also...mythic items? Those weren’t here before. What are they

Mythic items are essentially non functional items with HIGHLY niche uses. They are kinda neat, but only one of the mythic items so far is worth using. (the gloves, and only in PvE)

    1. Keyboard and Mouse is so much better to play, but you can use a controller.

    I disagree with this.

Keyboard and mouse is horrible with this game for me. I much prefer the controller. Though I understand why people prefer K&M. But I do play on PC

For players that are accustomed to a controller, this would make sense. However, after taking the time to get used to the keyboard and mouse (with an MMORPG mouse) it opens up a lot more possibilities that are not possible otherwise. But it does take time to remap hands (and I guess the ole brain) to the change.

Yeah a standard mouse just dont work. my wife uses one but she doesnt do anything to serious in the game. I use a red dragon with 12 side buttons. I map my mouse to do all movement related stuff while my keyboard is pretty much the default layout with a few tweaks.

Its always better playing on PC than a console for this type of game. Consoles are ok for games made for consoles but not for games ported to console.

I switched from PS4 to PC a year ago and had the same concerns.

I had the same concerns, some much achieved and left behind.

While grinding again, i sometimes felt it was not worth it.
I then switched back to PS4 and the difference is enormous.
Graphics, performance, and addons make it worthwhile to persevere.

Also the game levels much faster than at launch.

Those who are saying it’s a hot mess...why?
In a nutshell detail what’s going on? Nothing like “oh it’s awful!” Like explain to me what’s wrong with it.
Example I took a break due to horrible PvP imbalance (when dot meta was a thing and MagPlar were everywhere) and cyrodiil lag (I was on console so I could only get like 20 people before it would be horrible.

Short and unbiased answer - no, it isn't. For a multitude of reasons. The most important being -
Absolutely atrocious connectivity / lag issues.

Poor communication from the dev team that has steadily moved in the wrong direction

Increased focus on price inflated micro transaction PTW content and prioritizing it over implementing quality updates to the game.

PVP is still a disaster, moreso in my opinion and performance is often an issue even on higher end PCs. Ironic because they were suppose to be improving performance. Bugs everywhere. They just dont put the time in things like they did before summerset. Everything is a rush job and PVP is the worse its ever been.

PVP use to be ok in ESO besides the whole "crowd control online" aspect. But its quite unbalanced now and that is amplified by the desync that is now infecting the rest of the game not just cyro. BG death recap:
    Tick: nothing
    Tick: nothing
    Tick: 3x poison arrow
    Tick: 4x silver shard
    Tick: death

All the same player. and all the hit sounds come in the same two ticks. So you have nothing nothing everything at once. All fighting is like that now. PVE, PVP. Its not as bad in PVE though. Its only been happening to me since Greymoor. It happens on occasion in noncombat as well which leads to some weird and interesting things happening when interacting with objects.

    1) is it worth starting from scratch on PC? Is there a huge difference? Eg lag in PvP. Not sure if there's much of a lag difference from console to PC. If you have a decent computer I'd think it'd handle it better. PC version does have mods like to show where skyshards and locations and crafting resources are and to find out how much items usually go for through guild traders.

    2) I haven't tried sorcerer enough and I'm more into pve than pvp. Vampires have gotten an overhaul new abilities perks and weaknesses as well as changes in animations and a vampire lord like ultimate. And there were some changes to werewolves but more of changing things on abilities and such that were already there so not as big as a change as vampires got. But I have seen a lot doing well as sorc in pvp areas when I have been there.
    3) Never played it on Xbox but PC community is pretty good for the most part I think.
    4) I'm actually not sure on this one.
    5) Again not sure.

the new consoles are coming out later this year which is a factor to consider. I played on pc for beta switched to xbox and tried it on PC 2 months ago to see the difference. I prefer Xbox One X over PC even having no addons - which I do not really need since I have leveled everything and tons of gold and mats. Main focus Cyrodiil PvP but also trials.

“I have fantastic new gaming PC and love ESO.... should I play the game?”

You’ve kind of answered your own question there I think.

You might be starting again, but you’re not starting from scratch. All that game knowledge and experience is coming with you. You’ll find it way easier to set up and level characters than any new player and you’ll have the advantage of being able to pick and choose which questlines etc to take based on your personal preferences. Given you know what you’re doing, levelling that first character to 160+ CP should take you no time at all.

Best thing is, you’ll be able to find guilds and players you want to play with fast. Or maybe your guilds are already multi-platform Discord groups and you’ll start off playing with existing friends. If it’s all new people, they will appreciate someone who has experience even if you’re currently low level, if it’s existing friends then they won’t care what level you are.

    Good luck and have fun.

Honestly no, pve is the only thing this game offers anyone now days and even that is affected by performance issues, pvp would be great if performance wasn't trash but it only ever is 2-5% of the time. Game support doesn't even bother to send the auto response on tickets submitted so don't expect anything there either. If you absolutely need to return I would recommend not spending money on eso+ or crowns its just not worth it, or worth supporting the game as all you will get in return is more junk added to the crown store.
