Map contiguity and Event rewards...? (formerly "Ugh.")

So... I've not played for a while (real life intrudes, you know), so I only just got back in to check out the new zone. Western Skyrim! I was excited, and looking forward to walking across Skyrim. Then I see in the Launcher that the Second Legion armour style is available! Awesome, I've ALWAYS loved that chain hauberk.

So, I logged in... and boy am I disappointed.

First, I find that I can't walk to Western Skyrim. It's yet another isolated little chunk off by itself, disconnected from the rest of the world. Just like Murkmire. Just like Southern Elsewyr. I hate that. Lord of the Rings Online did this more recently too, and it's so immersion breaking. So, I can't walk there. Can't boat there either, not from Winterhold. No boats to West Skyrim from East Skyrim. I don't like to wayshrine, it breaks my immersion... so there's no way there for me. Just like Murkmire. Just like Elsewyr.

Oh well, says I, I'll console myself by spending the crowns to get the Second Legion motif. What's this? It's not on the store? I ask in chat and I'm told it's a PvP only reward? Now I'm angry. I DON'T PVP. EVER. Not only is it badly balanced, it's a horrorshow of lag, bad attitudes and misery. Nope, I'm not doing PvP, so there's ANOTHER thing I can't get in this game.

So, disappointed, frustrated and angry, I logged out.

Zenimax, this is NOT the reaction you want from ANY player coming back to the game, especially a veteran who has spent a LOT of time and money here. I implore you, let us get back to the quality I remember. Let us have zones that connect to other zones. Let us have access to all the rewards and especially motifs, don't restrict anything to JUST PvP. And... fix the balance. Fix the lag and system issues. It's all been well discussed on the forums. We're here to help you identify problems, to help you provide the things we would like to see. Don't be shy. TALK to us, and help us to help you and the game to be the best ever.

The 2nd Legion Style is an event reward. You'll be able to buy extra pages from players or, if you want to spend crowns (or gold for gifted event tickets) to buy the event tickets to get the pages.

Or you could accept that if you want ALL the rewards, you have to play ALL of the game, and that ESO has always been that way.

@Morgha_Kul - if you have tickets left over, or can get them without a lot of effort in a mega-bad pvp situation, the motif pages you want are available for 5 tickets each from the Impresario (I *think* - I don't like either style, so.... *shrug*)

Correct, the Impresario has the 2nd Legion and Legion Zero pages for 5 tickets each.

Only the ones sold at the Impresario are account bound. Style pages dropped in the reward boxes should start showing up for sale at a guild trader near you.

I do not understand why OP bought the motif with crowns just because they could not walk into a zone. It can be obtained in-game and as To2C pointed out they should soon be available to trade between players.

My friend boated there the first time from Wayrest. And my other took a cart from Deshaan. You can always either use a boat or cart to get to the new chapters.

Can’t vouch for the small zones like Murkmire and southern Elsweyr though.

Ahhh, this lightens my heart, I've never used any of those tickets before. Finally something I'd WANT to use them on. All the thanks!

So nothing should be restricted to being only available during a PvP event but its OK to restrict stuff to only be available during PvE events?

Seems a tad unfair to me, PvPers get 3 events a year, PvErs get 6 - 9 a year. Just saying

Hey man, sorry for your frustration, you're not alone!

I can totally see where Western Skyrim is disconnected from the rest of Tamriel, lacking boats and other RP-friendly travel methods. It feels a little less fleshed out than the other zones, so your disappointment is entirely justified. If the Reach is the next zone, I think it'll connect to Bangkorai or Craglorn IIRC.

Motifs, I dunno, I've never liked them being in the store to begin with, so having to earn them in game is better IMO. Maybe it could be earned elsewhere in the game, but I think PVPers could make the equivalent gripe that other motifs are only available in PVE. So it goes both ways.

    [snip]

PvP players are forced to do PvE content for gear. We are forced to do other random PvE things for our PvP experience. You know why? Because thats what ZOS wanted, [snip]

Do all of the content. Get all the rewards.

I find it telling that the OP is frustrated with PVP being a horror show of bad attitudes and toxic people, and then the only comments on this threat that have been rude have been PVP players.

Agreed on the new land masses being introduced being so isolated. There's so much wasted space on the map, glaringly in bits like Southern Elsewyr to Northern.

Well, the bit I wanted was the Second Legion jack, and it was available for event tickets from the Impresario. Of course, you need to PvP to GET the tickets... but then, I can use tickets I got from earlier events...

So, I got the jack I wanted! I'm grateful to you all for letting me know I could get it this way.

Still disappointed that I can't walk to Western Skyrim, but it is what it is. I already did the prelude... what path are you referring to?
I want to be able to go everywhere in this game, using the mode of transport i want to use. I want items in the game, the way i want to acquire them. This game should be tailored to me because i play it.

When the game launched, I could walk continuously from place to place. Naturally, I had to go by boat from Bleak Rock, but once I was on the mainland, I walked to Stonefalls. I walked from there to Deshaan. I walked from there to Shadowfen. I walked from there ALL the way through the Rift to Eastmarch. I could theoretically even walk straight through Cyrodiil to get to the other side of the continent. Now, though, all the newer areas are disconnected, and it's not possible to just walk from place to place. It disappoints me because the game wasn't originally made that way. It suggests to me a lack of concern for something important to the game (imo): IMMERSION. I don't want it all my way, I just expect the standards they set at the beginning.

I also think all items should be available to everyone of all playstyles. PvP in particular is a very divisive game mode. There are MANY who don't play PvP for any number of reasons, and items currently restricted to PvP need to be made available for PvE. That said, I feel just fine allowing for PvE gear being made available for PvP play. Let everyone have access to everything.

    I agree with you.

I also liked that you could walk from one zone to another, if you wanted.

It was never as good as WoW, in that regard, as there were still load screens, but it was better than lots of little, disjointed, maps, like we seem to have, now.

It's something I love to do in any game I play. I love getting IN the world of the game, and for that to happen, the world needs to be complete and roughly contiguous.

One of my favourite gaming memories was when I was beta testing Lord of the Rings Online. My character WALKED (not jogged, not ran... actually walked) from Bag End to Rivendell. It was marvellous, it made me feel like I was actually in Middle Earth. There weren't even any loading screens then.

ESO used to be pretty good in this regard (still is, in the older zones), but has become more insular of late... and strangely so, in some cases. I mean, why is there a little strip of unused territory between north and south Elsewyr? It's just a small stretch of land, why not put something THERE, even if it's a big mountain range with a single pass from north to south...?

Anyway, it's gratifying to know I'm not alone in this.

You can reach Western Skyrim by boat.
You can reach Murkmire by boat.
You can reach Southern Elsweyr by boat or caravan.
You can reach Northern Elsweyr by boat or caravan.

AFAIK the only two zones you travel to on the map that you cant take traditional transport is Clockwork City and Coldharbour both of which are magical constructs and not actually part of Tamriel.

    (under spoiler tag)
    Spoiler
Go back down into the basement of that inn in the prologue, and through the "secret entrance."
(note, you can only go down into that basement on a character that has already started the prologue quest, although, you can come from the opposite direction; from Western Skyrim and eventually into Eastmarch through that basement, if you haven't done the prologue).

Work your way from the eastern edge of that level of Blackreach to the western edge, which will move you up into the Greymoor Caverns of Blackreach, under Western Skyrim. If you haven't been to Western Skyrim before, you can get up there from Blackreach by finding one of the "Great Lifts."

    nti4Pbn.png

(exiting where the blue arrow is on the map will bring you back to Eastmarch at another location)
