Which do you prefer: Two handed or Dual Wield?

So, which do you prefer, 2-handed or dual wield? And why? Reasons could be for build, dps numbers, or just the visual. Please share!

I personally prefer 2-handed. Not because of any DPS related reasons but for the visual.

In my opinion ESO has some of the blandest weapon visuals in any game I’ve played. But, some of the styles for 2-handed actually look good. So, I’m willing to lose a little DPS charging into battle with a shiny giant axe than with some rusty looking tooth picks I got at the flea market.

While I love pretty much love and prefer every other 2H skill over DW’s, I hate WB/DS so I tend to avoid 2H on classes without a good enough spammable. I don’t think it’s a crap skill, frankly, I just have a harder time weaving with it.

Depends entirely on the character. What fits the character?

That said, there are so many very cool shield designs I would have to vote 1h+shield, but that was left off the list, so... yup.

I like both, and I want to use both freely, but you know that in PVP 2H is literally must have and in PVE DW is must have. Players invent various builds, but as soon as something really good appears from non-meta, it is nerfed with a speed of light within 1 update or even PTS. (honestly, idk why)

I use both, they're both fine - it totally depends on the character. Some of my stam characters use DW, some 2 hand.

I prefer 2H. I tried DW numerous times but it's really not my thing and I just can't seem to learn to like it.

I've never been able to get the hang of 2H- it feels so clunky to me. I find it more fun than DW, but my DPS drops by a significant margin when I use a 2H.

Although it depends a lot on the build, I prefer using 2H on my front-bar (damage-bar).

2-hander's have a built in AoE for the light and heavy attacks with the passives. It's not a super huge thing, but I tend to gravitate towards 2 handers for that. Dual Wield is good too, just not my preferred.

Two handed since I own a two handed sword in real life and find them easier to use. I do have a nightblade that uses dual wield though and some of the abilities are pretty cool.

It depends on the character's role. My tanks are usually 2 handed/ sword & shield. My stamina DPS are usually dual wield/bow.

Where I'm going also makes a difference. I use dual wield when taking on groups and 2 handed if I'll mostly be dealing with one or two enemies at a time.

Yup, 2-Handed had been the OP Meta in PVP forever with WB plus the insane scaling on Executioner, yet when Torugs made DW attractive it took less than a moons cycle for NERFS to instantly make it less viable. So nearly everyone that tried DW went back to 2-hand.

Like it more on hybrid builds because 2H is kinda meh.

For PvP, I like DW slightly more because daggers crit bonus and choice of two enchants.

I would have slotted 2h with dual wield for my hybrids, but too bad arch-mage got nerfed in this patch and now my hybrid has to forcibly slot resto or destro. Great diversity and build options...

2h,but only because dw skills and animations looks like fighting with a wet noodle.
only class I run with dw weapons is my stam ward for aoe burst.
Also daggers swinging like a sword looks stupid. Why no stab animation for daggers LA and HA? La using simple stab. HA stabbing with 2 daggers at same time.

Ok. in all seriousness? I..prefer duel wield over 2H if I had to pick.
But I normally main Magicka Classes. I dont like Staves. Hate them infact. I would love a melee magicka weapon but those wont happen.
As for stamina weapons, duel wield is not good at all coming from a pvp perspective. but I really really dont like the idea of spamming Dizzying Swing+heavy attack weaving. I like Bloodthirst. but its severely underpowered for pvp. Likely because its a multi-hit thing rather then the full damage right away.
it is great for proccing red mountain though.
I use 2h as a buff+healing bar if im playing a stam class, and then either sword and board or duel wield.
If there was a viable option to just run a onehanded and nothing else for stam characters I would take that though, same with one handed and rune for magicka classes that was datamined from morrowind but sadly never made it in.

In Pvp is the majority of what people use on stam classes, due to the skill line having a powerful spammable+cc,gap closer and a heal that is essential for any stamina pvp class, tied to the major brutality buff.

I love dual wield I mainly PvP and am a bit gimped by using it, but it feels fast and as is really fun.

I think when everyone talks about 2h they think about dizzy. The fact you don't need to slot a stun if you are using it makes it pretty crazy. The skill line also has momentum which gives you major brutality and minor endurance at base. It can then be morphed into a very strong burst heal or snare removal. To get the same from dual wield I have to use weapon damage pots, turn evil(which works nicely with whirling and gives me minor endurance) and shuffle.

So I have to use 3 skills and 100% up time on potions to get the same as 2 skills from 2h. Not to mention it also has a very reliable gap closer. I do appreciate I get evasion and minor protection(if I stay in the circle).

That's fair. Personally, I don't mind using 1h+shield on damage dealers too, because I don't do the sort of competitive content where optimizing matters for me anyway. Most of my characters are role hybrids of some sort, usually tank/dd, which honestly is probably more optimal when I mostly do random groups since you can flex to help with some other roles depending on team mates.

I like 2h a lot more. The visuals are nicer, even the sound, but the big thing is the abilities. I usually solo a lot, and having Brawler when solo'ing dungeons is great for survivability, and I might try to work in the Master 2h for that too so it brings down groups of enemies quicker.
