When will you do this, ZOS? Is the need to implement login queues that keep out paying subscribers finally enough proof to support a sizable re-investment in this game?

It would appear that the server farm isn't elastic in terms of its horizontal scaling. ZoS can correct me if I'm wrong, but my current login queue is almost 45 minutes, so I'd put my money on it not being architected that way.

In an environment other than one that is driven that way, you have to assume that every existing account owner will want to log in and check out any new content that is released, with some degree of falloff after that. And so, any static infrastructure must follow suit.

I know a lot has been put into working on various performance improvements in the core game, and that is great! But the whole concept of a "megaserver" only scales properly if done elastically rather than with static hosts in the server farm. Otherwise, the performance improvements you have implemented will only work for those lucky souls who are able to actually log in. It's like breaking the bank to build the world's most amazing hotel, which has every bell, whistle, and amenity one could dream of .... marketing it to 2.5M people ... and only having 100 rooms in the thing.

ZoS, I, along with many others, would probably prefer such a project be tackled ahead of any other new content, additional client-side improvements, etc. Perhaps such a project is underway already, I've no idea. But just my 2cp FWIW.

I'm sure the 45 minute login queue that I have right now will be addressed at some point - I'm not terribly worried about that, but ....

It's all about supply and demand. Logic would dictate that if you have lots of demand, and can't provide the supply, people will invariably wander off to the next shiny thing. And that leads to less revenue over a function of time. Married with existing operating expenditures, that leads to cost-cutting. And that leads to a cliff.

Of course, I/we have only the small insights shared with us by the ZoS team, but I'd like to think that these types of discussions were being had already. If they haven't been, I'm fairly certain that there is a flurry of email exchanges going on right now around such topics lol.

    May I answer for them?

"No! Most of time the equipment is not at peak load. We are not ready to lose money for downtime.

It doesn’t matter to us that we are losing money because old players are leaving the game. Instead of one old, we give two new ones.

We are completely indifferent that at any mention the name TESO necessarily sounds the word lags. In the future, our developers will hide in their resumes that they worked for us. Reputation does not matter at all, the main thing for us is money, money, MONEY... khm.. I mean, we are currently investigating issues..."
