more and more motifs have huge sections or pallets that just cannot be dyed, in some cases more then one (dragonguard has gold and red on a lot of pieces)

its really terrible to create a robust motif and outfit system such as you have, and then ignore / not abide by the rules of the system, heck if you need to add more channels (such as some having less channels) to take into account intricate motifs go for it.

I get this is petty and im sure there are PvP'ers looking through the topics and just shaking their head at topics like this but,

different dev teams yo

unless you want the artists designing your cyro patches and performance updates (I rather doubt it)

EDIT: wow, glad to see all the support, if BDO has taught us anything its that appearance matters.

    True.

I don't plan on ever getting a second slot. Just no.

Oh man, I thought this was going to be about how some items just never come close to the color you're trying to give them, not about doodads on the armor that can't be colored. I'm actually pretty much fine with the doodads, but I sure wish some of these motifs had a more neutral "base" color that would take a dye better.

Undyeable parts of motifs are part of the shortcomings of the current iteration of the outfit system.

Others are the inability of players to hide things like shoulders, belts, tassets, crotch flaps. Tassets and crotch flaps are especially bad since you can't mix and match different styles without considerable clipping issues.

The dyeing problem with motifs goes all the way back to Glass, early in game. It still doesn't dye right.

Agreed, I like the Buoyant Armiger style, but that green throws me off. They also need to stop this nonsense with a lot of the newer motifs not taking black dye, so many channels just come up grey. This started happening with Morrowind I think. Dreadhorn, Ashlander, Bloodforge, Pyandonean. Those are the ones I remember having black dye issues.

Also, I agree with OP, I'd like to see dyes work better on a lot of costumes and outfits.

A large number of people who play ESO get huge satisfaction from the player cosmetics and detailed player creation in this game. There is a reason so many crown items that sell well are cosmetic. Often times the most packed area in a city is the outfit bench.

ZOS should be doing everything they can to continue to give those people as much customization as possible. If they limit the amount a outfit can be modified or have sections that cannot be altered from the stock color they are limiting the diversity within the game. If you get pieces of an outfit that are locked in to red you kill a ton of color combinations that would look good together but get killed by the locked in red.

In a perfect world outfits would come with unique panel templates and a character could pick each panel/section of the armor and dye it. Right now we get 3 boxes and those boxes cover multiple different sections of the armor that change with each box. It would be nice if a Robe of Whatever that comes with a sash, braclets, a center panel, skirt, trim, ect... that allowed each section to be dyed uniquely. When you are at the outfit station instead of three rectangles beside the robe you can click on the robe and a little schematic picture of the dyable set robe sections pops up. You just pick your dye and click on each section of the robe you want to dye that color. On most robes or armor you would be looking at 6-10 pre-set sections you could click to dye, the really fancy pieces might see more. This gets rid of where you want a green sash but dont want the arms green as well, but it turns out they are linked in one of the three boxes.

The crazy thing is hats in the game are the most customizable because the three boxes usually define 3 distinct sections of the hat and the player does not end up limited like they do on a more elaborate piece like a robe where you cannot add one accent to a robe and need to either have no accent, or have 6 sections of the robe switch to the accent color.

    Yup.
New Moon Priest doesn't take dye well at all. I can't find a dye that comes even close to what it's supposed to look like.
And I dislike the default color; too much brown (for my taste), and it's the brown portions that look really wonky when you put a dye to them.

This is definitely a varied and recurring issue. My big issues lately are the red cords on the Sunspire motif, something I begged them to make more neutral if not fully dyeable during the PTS, the inability to dye fur on new motifs that have fur elements, and related to that, the fact that the fur collar from the prologue, an exceptional shoulder option and one I have been hoping for for ages, is *not dyeable period*.

I just cannot figure out their logic here. At the bare, most base minimum, if there will be elements that cannot be dyed, PLEASE make them neutral, not saturated and difficult to match with.

Coloring isnt the worst part in outfitting.
Its that most new armors arent compatible with guil tabards(and their colors)

If your tabard is white with a purple sign, why does your armor underneath get to look like a brown mesh?

Why does this come from PvP? Because I do not pvp much but I understand this very well. Dragonguard has some parts that do not dye, Sunspire has those red strings that can't be dyed, and so on.

However, this does not bother me so much as having only 3-4 jerkins without hip/crotch flaps. I really want to remove those, especially for the cloth pieces. This is also annoying for stamina chars, because their weapons clip through the hip flaps. I was lucky with one crate, got a very fine Pelitine dagger, but it clips through hip flaps, so it's a shame to look at it like that.

Hiding the shoulder pads is another common request... Please?

The worst part? We know from live streams that the functionality to hide shoulders apparently exists on ZOS' internal test servers but has yet to be implemented on live realms.

Whats more there are entries in the game's files related to the ability to hide crotch/butt flaps and tassets that from what I've gathered would work in the same manner as hiding mount upgrades and polymorph helmets. Obviously no indication that it will actually happen but it shows someone at ZOS understands that a lot of players really dislike tassets and crotch/butt flaps.

I agree, it's really frustrating when parts of a motif can't be dyed. Sometimes I decide I can work with it and adjust what I was planning to do around the undyable areas, but more often than not I go looking for a different, less restricted, motif to use instead.

ESO takes great pride in having ugly armor. The fear is that if the players are given too much power with dyeing and hiding armor pieces they might actually be able to make an attractive character.

This would go against their core tenet 'everyone should be running around in a potato sack'.

I am joking of course, but this game seems to be allergic to sexiness/attractive avatars.

OH, and also please @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom we really, really, really, really, really, REALLY WANT the ability to hide shoulders and leg flaps for a very long time now (for lack of a better word).
