Of course it could be done - simply put a factor to the resources - like 0.75 and 0.5 to make it harder and 1.5 and 2.0 to make it easier - leaving all the rest the same. This could as well be a slider in the range of 0.5 to 2.0 of course with every value in between possible. But I think that rewards and such should not be changed at all - if you want more challenge, good, but not more rewards for choosing that. Then it would be quite easy to implement.

So all the server database calls are already causing people to lag out in PvP, so the solution is to add more database calls to the rest of the game to lag everyone else out?

it is one multiplication more - and you do not query a database for every calculation done anyway. It is not the database calls which are lagging out people - it is a messaging problem due to a much too twitchy and AoE and DoT rich combat system.

Btw this thread isn't about pvp, but about a difficulty setting like in single player TES games.

    nope.

    eso is a casual paradise.
the players who want to make things harder can already do so by removing their CP and using white quality gear.
there is no reason to waste resources to change the game for literally only 6 or 7 “l33ts” who want to compare e-peens.

It would be entirely optional. Options are optional.

Nigh impossible. Mobs cant have d8fferent difficulties toward different players at the same time unless the game puts you in your own instance, but then its not an MMORPG anymore.

So the player scales to the content. They could implement into the GUI, a slider like the post suggests and allow you to adjust your personal character scale lower than the game has you scaled to. you would basically be moving the slider the bar up and it would be scaling you negatively. That with more loot incentive, sounds like a win to me.

Then what's the point of Character Levels if you choose your own difficulty.

I'm confused by your question. We don't have a choice in character levels. It will always be there, because leveling up is a core part of the foundation of the RPG genre.

But being given an option? Well... that's optional.
