Maintenance for the week of December 23:
• NA megaservers for maintenance – December 23, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – December 23, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 14:00 UTC (9:00AM EST)

This lag in Cyrodil is totally inexcusable in 2020 for a successful game of 6 years.

My Templar is literally trapped in Cyrodil. Everything was fine and in some big fights at first, no issue. Then zergs meet head to head and not only does time stop but I get kicked to login and if I try to log back on the character, it says I have no internet connection. This is legit like Shadowbane 15+ years ago and there is no excuse for it this late in the game. You've had the time and money to address this for years. Stop making excuses or looking for cheap fixes and spend it. The sentiment in zone and guild chats? The same. "Unplayable" is the most common word. I'm shocked that this is where you guys are right now considering the rest of the game. Unbelievable.

Can’t you just be happy that the pve barely works....some of the time?

If you think that's bad, you should see ZOS streams on twitch on Bethesda channel. Mods there ban literally everyone who mentions lag or any other problems related to this game.

It's never been this bad; when you read 6+ star forum users writing things such as: 'it's always been like this', it is simply not true.

Forum stars as pvp ranks doesnt mean you know what you are talking about or doing

I haven't played since April the 6th. I didn't stop playing because someone snared me, stunned me, or zerged me down. Not because Sorc, and Wardens are OP. Also, Not because someone hurt my feelings.

    BECAUSE PVP IS BROKEN.

And that is the truth, and is coming from someone that can handle a lot of BS.

If Cyrodiil is so bad, and according to the forums it has been bad since day 1.

Why do you guys keep playing?

Normal people, when they don't like something, leave it until it is fixed.

Because it's fun, when it works. The only reason people complain so loudly is because we enjoy the PvP in this game.. when it isn't laggy and unresponsive.
When it does work right you won't find an MMO that can compete with it. The worst part is, it wasn't always this bad. The more updates they poop out, the worse things become, and it's killing me to see a game I enjoyed so much turn out like that.

    giphy.gif

Before ESO I use to play World of Tanks, I dedicated 3 years to that game, I made real friends who still see them.

Then the game turned bad, P2W to the extreme, lousy MM, I was no longer comfortable with the state of the game, so stop playing, and since then I have not returned, nor do I plan to play it again.

That's how I discovered ESO, and it's been 5 years and it's the only game installed on my PC.

But if for some reason tomorrow I don't like the game or I'm uncomfortable with something, I'll leave it and find another.

It is just a video game.

Yup.. sure is terrible. Lag, skills delays and misfiring bad in PvE too; crashes, resource drains, toxic people, etc. Play it, don't play.. whatever. Kinda sad, though, that it's no change for all these years, and you're just kind of desensitized to it all. :|

    Greetings all,

Once more we must ask that members refrain from Baiting and Bashing as those are both violations of the rules, and are stated as follows:
Bashing and Slanderous Comments: We do not permit the bashing of individuals (including ZeniMax employees), groups, or other companies on our forums. We believe that doing so is neither constructive nor in spirit of our game and community.
Trolling or Baiting: The act of trolling is defined as something that is created for the intent to provoke conflict, shock others, or to elicit a strong negative or emotional reaction. It’s okay and very normal to disagree with others, and even to debate, but provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable in the official The Elder Scrolls Online community. If you do not have something constructive or meaningful to add to a discussion, we strongly recommend you refrain from posting in that thread, and find another discussion to participate in instead. It is also not constructive or helpful to publicly call out others and accuse them of trolling, or call them a troll—please refrain from doing so. If you genuinely believe someone is trolling, please report the post or thread to the ESO Team, and leave it at that.
If there are any questions in regards to the rules, feel free to take a few moments to review them here.

    Thank you for your understanding,
    -Greg-

@ArchMikem thats exactly what needs to be done. I for one wouldnt mind if the combat team took Cyrodiil (or the whole game offline) for a few months to fix the horrendous state it is in. If that means a whole new engine so be it.

It technically doesn't have to be offline. That's what the PTS is for. I thought.

Yesterday when we were finally able to log in again after maintenance, Cyrodiil (PC EU - Grey Host) actually ran smoothly for about 2 hours. Low ping (below 100), no lag, skills fired, ultis and pots worked as intended. It was glorious.

Then the lag returned. Sad times.

But it worked, and didn't lag despite all three factions being pop-locked.

So what was different for the first couple of hours? That would be interesting to find out and implement again please. @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_BrianWheeler any ideas?

Fewer players logged in after maintenance. Pc eu has always struggled with the volume of concurrent players.

Because when the damn game actually works, there is nothing like ESO out there. It's simply the best MMO out there in literally all aspects, graphics, lore, active combat without cooldown's...and yea first ever MMO for me with really interesting questlines, all voice acted, beautiful.

No, Cyro has never been this bad. This right now is the peak of bad performance...6 years into the game :(
We used to have much larger player caps and much better performance, not great, but much better.

I have to agree with the OP.

Cyro, for the most part, has always been lagy in my experience, but you could deal with it... More recently, it really is totally and utterly unplayable the majority of the time, especially during peak times.

This isn't an exaggeration either, if my skills only fire about 2 or 3 seconds after I click, or often not at all, then pvp simply isn't viable is it. if opponents are literally getting entire rotations off, that are not animated or registering until I am dead...

The only option is that I have to just leave Cyro and this has been happening more and more often recently.

I generally play a couple of characters up to tier 3 rewards in different campaigns. But I cant even do that. This means I am missing out on huge amounts of transmute crystals each campaign. Zos could do worse than acknowledge the frankly unacceptable lag and rewards pvp players with some goodies... better yet, FIX IT.

Lol. Anyone remember the so-called “performance upgrades” that were touted by a certain lead person at ZOS? Remember when everyone wanted to believe that they were on the right path and we should give them a chance? Well, we’re into May of 2020 and the game performs as bad or worse, especially in PVP. But all you white knights continue defending the incompetence. They are simply unable to fix this mess and it will only get worse. Nerfing sets and gameplay are the only thing ZOS has been consistently good at.

Many of us have spent a lot of time looking for an alternative. There isn't one. On paper, Cyrodiil is just unparalleled. There isn't anything like it. Nothing I've found reproduces what ESO PVP can be at its best.

But it doesn't work. It runs like a slideshow. Inputs don't lead to outputs in any predictable fashion. Your health bar is not actually indicative of how much health you have left. Lag is the basic state and the game working as described is the happy exception. On paper, it's great. But it literally doesn't work.

And the worst part? ZOS has been pretty straightforward with us that they don't take this problem seriously and they don't intend to devote resources to fixing it. It's never going to get better.
7-day PVP campaign regular 2016-2019, Flawless Conqueror. MagDK/stamplar/stamwarden/mageblade. Requiem, Legend, Knights of Daggerfall. Currently retired from the wars; waiting on performance improvements.

The fact is the game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, with a better engine and everything in order to achieve the results you want from it. The game has gotten so incredibly complex since 2014 to where the Devs initial design can't keep up anymore.

You won't be satisfied unless you're given an Elder Scrolls: Online 2.

I think you guys are confused. The issues are not client side. Building a new game engine won't fix anything if it interfaces with the same shoddy database backend and server infrastructure.

Have you seen the job postings? ZOS is scrambling to find experienced database programmers and server developers. The issue is bottlenecked resources server side, exacerbated by an ever growing playerbase. This is where their focus needs to be.

I know it's not ideal, but why don't you and your mates move over to the other server, as there are fewer people there, as their prime time is different?

If you love the PvP for eso that much, then at least there should be less lag there. If you play in the eu evenings on the n.a. server, then there will be more players there than you think. You might actually start having fun doing it again.

I swapped over a year ago, and don't regret it. We have an eu refugee guild with a transmutation station and everything. You are welcome to join us.

Your eu account will be waiting for you if things ever improve (which I don't think they will for cyrodil pvp).

Eso is so god awful for console (I’m ps4) pretty much broken since elswyer.

    Bluescreens since November

NO FIX UNTIL FIRST WEEK OF FEB

Which then gave us such severe lag and skill delay (or skills don’t even go off) that pvp is a bigger dumpster fire than before

This is happening to everyone not just people with trash internet

No acknowledgement from zos what so ever

Please stop saying that Cyro has been like this from the start.

    IT WAS NEVER THIS BAD!

Prior to the Harrowstorm DLC, Cyro was playable. A bit laggy in prime time but playable! Right now there is no point even starting the game until 2-3am.

If you keep saying the game has been this bad since 2014, ZOS will basically assume that this is normal and we'll never see any resources pumped into this issue.

I have to agree with you. I remember back in Azuras Star we would completely lag out on flags during fights, but those fights had 3 times more people involved. You would just keep smashing buttons until somebody won. But even that was tolerable. This is a whole new level of bad.

I think the only time that has been successful was Final Fantasy XIV and it was sorely needed.
The amount of time they would need to completely fix the game would take substantially longer than months. It's easier to code from the ground up, than the repair years of sloppy coding.
Over the time it would take to actually fix it, a lot of people would move on and never return. You might think you'll return know, but in reality if you find another game during that time, you won't.
