the push for penetration as a leading source of damage explained

especially for pvp

1) it does not buff heals or shields (like things like raw damage / stats / crit can) or any defensive action.
2) it deals with the commonly complained about tank meta (even though that meta is more % damage reduction sources based) better then other sources.

so yeah, its good, but also kind of a trap, enjoy.

It's a move to prepare for tanks switching from Alkosh to Roaring Opportunist. Oh wait, wait, it's a damage set, ri-i-ight? ^^

Is there anything in Greymoor Chapter that a PvE magicka DPS would want to run? The light overland set is a healer set. The hybrid crafted set gives you a boatload of penetration against off-balance enemies that will be wasted due to overpenetration. The light crafted set is a regen set and no DPS wants to give up a 5-piece bonus for regen, because regen is like penetration in that anything beyond what you need to sustain your build is wasted. The light Trial set is a support set masquerading as a DPS set.

Not sure. On another hand, consider that Roaring Opportunist have just brutally murdered Tooth of Lokkestiiz, so stamina is back to frontbarring Advancing Yokeda or something like that. The rate with which ZOS obsoletes own trial sets grows faster and faster. (I mostly mourn Master Architect though, it was set that was actually fun and encouraged group support.)

Yup so we'll continue to run PFG and Mother's Sorrow. And maybe not even PFG depending on how it goes with vampire balancing because if those skills are BiS and are super cheap sustain is a non-issue.

You might want to run some of the mythic items. The 25% more damage but no crits ring is interesting for PvP, because it completely circumvents crit resist and should apply to proc sets. And the other is gloves that have you deal more damage but take more damage for every enemy you kill.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

Penetration is a strange thing, because having too much of it too easily accessible renders armor effectively worthless.

Many years ago I used to play a multiplayer (but non MMO) game, in which about a third of available weapons had the "armor piercing" property - completely ignoring all damage mitigation gained from armor.

This resulted in armor effectiveness being extremely polarized: best armor had 75% damage mitigation, but roughly half of the time you would see none of it - since everyone and their mother tended to actively look out for and hold onto the armor piercing weapons.

It was also really annoying to play at times, because the strongest armor piercing weapons would instantly oneshot you with no possibility of counterplay.
