I played ESO from the release until late 2014. I was thinking of coming back and had a few questions. Are my old characters still available? My original download was digital from Amazon. If I purchase through Steam and download the game will I lose the connection with my existing account and my old characters?

    Yes they will. No, when you start the game with steam it will ask if you already have a account.

    I pre-purchased the game a long time ago and re-bought it on steam too

    Ah thanks! So do you still have to register with Bethesda? I have my old lic/game tied to my account there.

    Also sorry about my 2014 date. I was with ESO until late 2016.

    You should be able to just log in through account.elderscrollsonline.com and download the game for free. No need to buy it again through steam, and playing through steam sometimes causes issues.
