[PTS Feedback] Testing Ideas for Light & Heavy Attacks in Combat

I am happy to see that once again ZOS heard our feedbacks. Some people accuse ZOS of not listening to us, but that is not true! The truth is that players give different feedbacks to ZOS. There is no consensus. And that's why ZOS decided not to make any changes at this point. We thank you, ZOS!

As some players have said, some changes were good and could be implemented:
  • All Light, Medium, and Heavy Attacks now scale with your highest offensive stats.
  • Your movement speed is no longer reduced while channeling Heavy Attacks.
  • Heavy Attacks cast time reduced.
  • Etc

Well, in my opinion, the current system is not good for new players. As well as the changes that ZOS proposed. ZOS only changed from Heavy to Light Attacks. I know that we will see changes in the future, because I know that things will not continue as they are. People who criticize are just used to the current system, which has been in place since the beginning.

My suggestion is simple: completely remove this "Damage vs Resources" concept. That is, Light and Heavy Attacks do damage and restore resources!
  • Light attacks deal low damage and restore little resources.
  • Medium attacks deal medium damage and restore medium resources.
  • Heavy attacks deal high damage and restore a lot of resources.
This suggestion would be perfect for players with low and high APM.

Some players may disagree with me, but this is a very interesting north. In my opinion, things could be simplified.

It kind of buffs heavy attack lightning sorcs out of the wazoo....

If ZOS aren't going ahead with these changes they still need to address the APM issue in some form.

I'd advocate just placing a huge damage Nerf on LA activated within the GCD of another ability.

I agree with a lot of your points, but Light Attacks should be largely unchanged, and Medium + Heavy Attacks should be brought up to nearly their DPS (but not more). If Light Attacks get sustain it should be no more than 50-100 Mag or Stam per second, and that would only justify a 10% reduction in their damage (the 78% nerf to Light Attacks was the largest issue on PTS, followed closely by the zero resources from Heavy Attacks that were still too weak to provide good DPS).

One other thing I did not like on PTS was the strange timing of Lightning Heavy Attacks. The faster charge up time on Inferno and other weapons was great, and fit better into rotations (replacing exactly 1 skill GCD with Inferno, while on live it’s more like 1.5 GCD’s which throws off the entire rotation and refreshing DoTs). Lightning was a different story, on Live they consume 2 skill GCDs, which makes several things possible:
    - Warden: Deep Fissure, Lightning Heavy, Deep Fissure
    - Necro: Blastbones, Lightning Heavy, Blastbones
    - Sorcerer: Daedric Prey, Lightning Heavy, any skill, Lightning Heavy, Daedric Prey
    - Templar: Purifying Light, Lightning Heavy, any skill, Lightning Heavy, Purifying Light

Sure none of these are part of a meta rotation, but plenty of builds use them (pet Sorc being the most common heavy attack build). All 4 of these examples failed to work on the PTS, because the Lightning Heavies only took about 1.9 skill GCDs, so the final skill in each example could cast too early and negate any damage from the first skill (clipping its duration too early).

They have listened to it this time, true. But I think that reputation of ignoring player's feedback did not came from nowhere.
*looks at pretty much whole last year*

They will have to keep listening to us more than once to erase the bad reputation which they brought on themselves...
