Unarmed skill line (Martial weapons)

"Martial weapons (Bows, Dual Wield, Two Hand, Unarmed, One Hand and Shield) return Stamina, while magical weapons (Staves) return Magicka.”

When do we get a full skill line for Unarmed with, a few active abilities and passives and an ultimate like other weapons? There are already punches and kicks, as well as backflips animations in the game. I wouldn’t mind a weapon for knuckles “brass knuckles” that we can slot main and offhand. The community as a whole has been asking for a new skill line (or monk class), and this may be a way of adding this.

Obviously it was mentioned in the revamped combat changes. So devs might as well do this now so we won’t have to rebalance again. SOURCE

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

Very much this, that's one of the main reasons that unarmed combat is currently simply not viable on any kind of competitive level (RP "flavor" builds do not count). Because you give up on SO MUCH weapon/spell damage by not equipping a weapon.

Hell, even if we never get a proper unarmed skill line, at least let us craft and equip "unarmed" weapons like brass knuckles or gauntlets, just to get the benefit of the WD/SD and enchant/poison. :)

Since the "brass knuckles" or "gauntlets" could be a fighting animation for Stamina users. It could also be a way to implement the Spellcasting for Magicka users... without staves.

They should add knuckles and runes so we could mix and match as a pure melee, pure mage or hybrid styles of unarmed combat or even one hand weapons with the new unarmed items.

I would counter the statement that under current class, weapon, guild skills have built in status effects. IF, you limited the source of status effects e.g. off-balance, stun, disoriented, etc. and separate them from damage status effects e.g. poison, burning, concussion, chilled, etc. than you could introduce weapon style distinction e.g. unarmed combat provides a higher frequency of disoriented status attacks than the 2-handed off-balance status effect from their damage spam skill.

Vice versa, if you limited damage status effects to class skills than you distinguish them based on the frequency to land those status effects; meanwhile, your weapon choice effects how often you land the other subset of status effects. It's not just, lets introduce unarmed combat, but its how you may distinguish different weapon lines.

Unarmed combat is viable in many game systems. BUT until they actually detach spell and weapon damage from the gear item sets. Unarmed combat would be unviable under the game's current model.

For full unarmed skill line ZOS must make some type of knuckles weapon, because weapons give big chunk of damage to all your attacks and skills. But i doubt that ZOS will add any type of new weapon to the game, because they will need to create around 100 motifs to this weapon and also new weapon to each unique type as Maelstorm arena, for example.
But there were already some suggestions on the forum how to make unarmed playstyle available, for example mine from other thread:
    XomRhoK wrote: »
ZOS, please, find the way for players to use claw animation for unarmed combat, as do Bloodfiend NPCs in game.
Like example, make two rings with your new Antiquities system, that disable all weapons and weapon skills, but leave all weapon bonuses and the opportunity to swap bars, so it will looks like unarmed combat. First ring will be "Pugilist ring" with normal stance and regular unarmed animations, second ring will be "Beast ring" with stance and unarmed animation of Bloodfiend NPC. Players still will need weapons, so it will not destroy sets, traits and farm, and this simple move will allow you to bring some kind of unarmed combat in game and will add so much to at least my personal vampire gameplay.

If the game will develop the way it is now, in the future will will have naked, skill less, gearless builds, spamming LA and doing 30K DPS... Because doing other stuff is too hard...

I've been begging for this for 2-3 yrs now... or whenever anvil patch came out and I got gladiator thinking I was going to be a light/heavy attack build with some skills mixed in here and there. That blew up in my face.. then I tried it again with a set that makes light attacks move faster.. still blew up in my face.. I even golded it facepalm ...

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

If the game will develop the way it is now, in the future will will have naked, skill less, gearless builds, spamming LA and doing 30K DPS... Because doing other stuff is too hard...

I really like the idea, i wonder what type of skills you would get though.

A DOT - a heavy blow that deals bleed damage

    A Spamable - a 1,2,3 pummel/combo ability like flurry

A buff - like a rage ability, for every melee damage you take you gain a stack of rage giving you physical resistance or wpn damage ,

A gap closer - like the bloodfiend charge attack, you run at your target and do a superman punch/dropkick of sorts, stunning your opponent.

A CC/Negative effect - maybe an ability like talons or stonefist where you stomp the ground and cc the enemy.

The only problems i'd imagine would be to fit it in lore wise, how can you bare-knuckle fight ghosts or anyone in armor, or what does it add to the game that it doesnt have already. Plus magicka classes would feel left out. unless it was released with spell crafting, then that would be awesome.

They Just need to implement Brass knuckles as a dropable 2h, and wouldn't have to give them a style for each motif, just use the gauntlet or arm motif.

Just make a passive in the skill line solve all of your issues.

    Master of Hands:
You gain additional weapon/spell damage while wearing armor in the hand slot. The damage scales with the level and quality of the equipped hand armor.
This passive also makes hand armor count as 3 set pieces, rather than the normal 1 set piece.
Add a Scribing skill that works like Arcanist beam.
    ---
Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.
    ---
Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.

Might make more sense to have this as "Set of..." (brass knuckles, cesti, whatever...) and make it a "brawling" skill line all on its own.
Though really, such a skill line should not be competetive with proper weapons, punching plate mail generally is not an effective way to fight people on medieval-ish battlefields.
Which would still be all right with me - it would be nice to have a "less then effective" skill line that's more for barrom brawls then battlefields...

What could be made as effective "battlefield punchings" weapon skill line might be the same approach, but as a magica line doing the damage through magically charged fists...

But... been there, posted all that: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/371862/additional-weapon-skill-ideas-mk-ii/p1 ;)

Very much this, that's one of the main reasons that unarmed combat is currently simply not viable on any kind of competitive level (RP "flavor" builds do not count). Because you give up on SO MUCH weapon/spell damage by not equipping a weapon.
If you are talking about competitive, i.e. leader boards, level, you are pigeonholed into a handfull of sets and class rotations already. (Especially since a lot of those are group activities.) The only reason to go so far off script is for the "flavor". There are ways to add wep damage without a weapon, warrior mundus, class skills, jewelry glyphs, and sets. Such a build can get you through normal WGT without being a burden, and nMA if you don't believe the first one.

While you will miss out on weapon passives, you still have 10 set slots. 11 if you slot an off hand weapon, (you still don't use it for anything but the added wep damage), which is how many slots two-handed weapon builds used to have to work with.

Forget leaderboards - considering how gimped unarmed combat currently is, I would consider it an excellent result if you could get a vMA clear, or score some solid wins against PvPers of decent skill.

The fact remains that no matter what you do, you lose out on roughly 1.3k WD/SD simply because you are not equipping any weapon. No amount of workarounds (sets, glyphs, etc.) can change this.

    Irrelevant.
ZOS is doing nothing productive to fix performance - in fact, their recent "performance update" made it far worse.
I would much rather have them not try "improving" "performance" any further, and instead work on something else while the game is still at least minimally playable.

I have the Star-Made-Knight and a Grand Overload kill, both require killing blows, and this build is a DK so no class execute to fall back on. 1.3k missing of not, I can still 1 shot the basic mobs in nMA with stone fist.
I don't know what you want for a yard stick, but using my other characters as a self reffence, he's not that far behind.

I don't blame you for being skeptical. Until certain events came along, I was doubtful my unarmed build could function beyond solo quests. Soloing a normal dungeon or learning to stick and move in PvP has made me bolder, and a better player because of it. I recommend trying it just for the training value.

P.S. If they ever introduce an unarmed skill line, Raja the Whispering Fang would probaly cause it to get nerfed by the next patch.

Gantlets, gloves, claws, ringlets, all good. Hitting lv50 in the skill line could unlock an "invisible fist" style, ie bare hands. Bar room brawlers and hand mages unite. Also make it a good in between weapon like sword is for melee and magic. Make the skills, or at least the morphs good for stam and mag builds to give something for everyone.

Oh man I would kill for a martial style, its long overdue. Just saying, Skyrim had a lot of sidequest involving fist fights in taverns. Greymoor is the perfect time to add it.

The fact is, even the best trained martial artists went and picked up a weapon if they stepped on a battlefield with intent to fight. Because no matter how good you are with your fist, you'll be better with a bit of force multiplier and range enhancer in your fist.

It would be different if the said monk didn't -intend- to fight... then they would come empty handed. As was often the case with Shaolin Monks from what I know, since they did practice a credo more focussed on attining enlightnment through mastery of body and mind rather then street fighting matches...
And yes, many people throughout history learned that while a shaolin monks hands may be empty, that does not make then helpless... and that their generally pacifictic demeanour does not come from lack of strength.
But still... even the best of martial artists (a title not limited to shaolin) in all the centuries of chinese history did grab a jian, guan dao or other weapon when they went off to fight.

Wow. So many Chinese here :D. An unarmed skill line, a monk class.. A weapon used in a fight is the tool that distinguishes man from animal. Whatever unarmed skill a warrior possesses, he always loses to a well armed and trained soldier. Swords used in mass fights negate skill of an unarmed combat. Gunfire negates the skill with a sword. Bombs and drones negate gunfire, etc., etc.. All the military technology is directed to make simple, dependable and deadly weapons that require minimal time to train with it and allow to suffer less casualties. Though of course, first, these weapons need too much research to be done in order to be developed.

My ancestors began their military education from 5-7 years of age. They studied not only the ways of using weapons, horses, certain military tactics, but were also mentally trained from their childhood, because for many generations the only occupation they had in their lives was war only. War, not a street fight. Those people were equally ready to die and to take the lives of others in a close combat. These are very specific way of life and way of thinking, trust me on that. It took decades to train such a combatant. But the history showed: no skill, training and lifestyle can stand against a horde of yesterday peasants armed with machine-guns. Just like that horde has nothing to do with tanks and bombs. How long it takes to train a soldier today in order to make him combat-capable? A year, a half of it?.. That's because of the high military technology level. So monks are not warriors, though yes, they can be ex-warriors or they can fight unarmed well. But monks are monks, not warriors, because fighting is not or no longer their trade.

ESO is mostly about mass fights and war. Moreover it depicts a relatively high technology level of the local military, so why unarmed monks? You either use physical weapons or magic, but storming, say, Chalman keep unarmed is lunacy. Monks can be soldiers, but they need certain weapon or magic based skill line that case. I say no to purely unarmed physical warfare.
