This is a quote from the UESP page:-
"The rewards follow a sequential order, which is different for each month and corresponds to the number of days in it. On each login, a reward can be claimed. Claims do not need to be consecutive: if you log in for the first three days, claiming rewards, and log in on the fourth without claiming, you'll receive the fourth reward when you next claim a reward. Note that this means that if you miss logging in or claiming rewards for too many days, you may miss the higher-end rewards, as the reward schedule will change with the new month."
So, it's as I thought, if you miss a couple of days, you lose out on the final big rewards at the end of the month. Which is why, I think anyway, it would be good to offer a few less days in the cycle so people can effectively catch up if they've had to miss logging in for what ever reason.

You do not have to log in everyday.
Nothing in the rewards will get you becoming Emperor or earning Godslayer.

They already effectively are. But I actually like the notion that I am ‘free to do other real life things’ which the current 21 day cycle brings. I think it is a great move.
ZOS made a good choice in the first place by having the main reward on or around the 21st day. That way it’s not a big deal if you miss a few days and regular players get a nice reward. The last few days have generally been filled with a trivial amount of AP or gold.
The days of 100k gold on the final day are well and truly over and that’s a great thing.
Daily rewards should be about encouraging players to play regularly, not obsessively.
The game is great fun, but then so is a whole pile of other stuff.
