Are you really that stupid to believe it will be gone in a month ? Theirs no cure at this time.

There's a vaccine for the seasonal flu, and that kills 20K + a year. Where is the panic over that?

There is no vaccine for the COVID-19 strain yet, as it's very new. And the seasonal flu, so far, has a lower mortality rate than this virus.

I must admit I wondered if the situation in Deshaan had somehow broken out into the real world...

The problem that some people have with dark humour is that they don't think you're taking the situation seriously enough.

Those words coming from a famous comedian on TV... well it's a comedian, so it's a joke. Might still be tasteless, but the context dilutes the offence, you know they don't mean it.

Say the same thing in the real world and you quickly find that there are a lot of people who think they are better than you and want to put you in your place... and make sure you show (what they consider is) proper respect.

You just don't make jokes about something other people or their loved ones could be suffering or even dying from, especially since you don't know those people in zone chat (and often not even those in your group). And do you realise how many people may stay healthy but still lose their jobs due to this crisis?

Why do some people feel the need to make 'jokes' about disaster, tragedy or trauma?

It's understandable when the directly affected or suffering make light of situations and engage in 'gallows humour' themselves as a way of coping, but those looking on from afar, especially in a gaming forum, need better education.

Jokes are a perfectly natural mechanism that helps us to deal with stuff we're scared of, or disgusted of, or stuff that's just too absurd or extraordinary to comprehend. It doesn't matter that we ourselves aren't directly affected; it still touches us in one way or other, and that's why we're joking about it: so that we don't have to cry.

I've had scratchy throat for almost a week now. It's somewhat improbable I have the virus, but considering my age and the fact my organs aren't in the best condition, I'd prefer to laugh about it while I still can breathe well enough to laugh. :p

And really, as a fan of medieval times, I find something inherently funny about the fact that the year of rat brought us a global pandemic. ;)

A month from now, people won't even be talking about this. Just like the fire in Australia, it's not what the media is hyping it up to be.

Can I ask, are you implying the Australian fires and Covid-19 are conspiracies?

Assuming it exists and is as we are being told, there won't ever be a cure (or not in the foreseeable future, anyway), as it's a virus.

You can't (in any way reliably) vaccinate for viruses, as they mutate roughly every two weeks.

All you can hope is that it mutates in a way that means it kills a lower percentage of the people who get it (which it probably will).

    People need to chill.

First off, we all face an expected mortality rate of exactly and precisely 100%. No exceptions. As a wise man once sang, "As soon as you're born you start dying, so you may as well have a good time." (Bonus cookie to whoever knows the song.)

Secondly, this ain't the smallpox, or the plague, or even the (entirely misnamed) Spanish Flu. Look at what happened on the Love Boat of Death: out of over 4000 people who were on board (and were almost certainly exposed at some point) about 700 caught the virus, about half of those got sick, and 7 died. What's especially important is that half of the people who definitely had the virus did not have symptoms. This means two things: it is a sneaky virus, and therefor it is certainly far more widespread than the early mortality rates are assuming. Now, if you have some kind of respiratory issue, or cancer, or anything that impairs your immune response you need to be a bit more careful, sure. But this ain't Cap'n Tripps gonna wipe the world clean.
Taking stealth away from the Bosmer is like taking magic away from the Altmer, making Nords allergic to mead, or making Orcs pretty.

    Oh and wash your hands.

Don't forget your thumbs - they are half your hand in terms of what you touch - and the front and back of your fingertips.

Wash in between your fingers, all the way along, front and back and also, under your nails.

The number of handwashing demonstrations people have given that are totally inadequate is ridiculous.

Boris Johnson's attempt (of course) being particularly laughable.

*Gets a warning for making the joke in Zone Chat.*
*Decides to try the joke out on the ESO forums instead, with a sideshow of discussing disciplinary action which already isn't allowed*

What result are we expecting here, exactly?

Just stay inside and play ESO, people.

    THIS^^
Regardless of whether we think it's media-hyped, worrisome, just a flu or the end of the world as we know it, we should stay home as much as we can, and, in this context, we should all here be thankful to have a hobby (ESO) that provides us with fun and social interaction while not engaging any risk.
Those of us who can work from home and still make some sort of income out of said work should also be thankful.
Many other people, hundreds of millions, will have to manage with their savings, and stay home while getting bored and/or suffering from loneliness.
My heart is also with those who cannot stay home (health care, transportation of goods, producing food, etc).

And THANK YOU ZOS for still providing us with ESO (I hope you're not taking any risks by doing so).

As to "jokes", well, it's hard to tell since we're all different. So far I've enjoyed the jokes flowing over the net, as long as they don't tend to minimize the risk and discourage people from being careful.

Global game and you don't know who was in chat. Could be someone who has family in China and lost many family members. The term used when telling a joke is "read the room" and you can't do that online.
