I understand the warning I got in /zone chat for a Covid joke, but for me making a joke about a something you can't do anything about, helps me and others who are trying to cope w/ a real bad situation.
To those offended by my claim that a 'Covid zombie flash mob in Walmart toilet paper isle' was a good idea for those collage students who's 'spring break' is kinda messed up.
I am sorry!

A month from now, people won't even be talking about this. Just like the fire in Australia, it's not what the media is hyping it up to be.

Are you really that stupid to believe it will be gone in a month ? Theirs no cure at this time.

There's a vaccine for the seasonal flu, and that kills 20K + a year. Where is the panic over that?

it will certainly not be gone in a month...maybe we are lucky and it calms down in summer but they are a afraid it might resurface in autumn...maybe gone in 9-12 months looking at past similar infections...

no dont panic but also dont underestimate this - nations around the globe wouldnt call for all these unprecedented measures if it was a nothing burger...

It has up to 2 weeks incubation and infections basically double each week...lot of people might be sick without knowing...

the flu has a mortality of 0.1% and this virus currently sits between 3-6% with about 20% of cases taking a severe development with a mortality of 15%.

Its fully expected that 60-70% of the populus will get it but they need to slow it down so they have the time and infrastructure to treat severe cases one after the other.

You dont want to end up like in Italy where they have to decide who lives and who dies...

AND STAY AWAY FROM RISK GROUPS such as your parents, grand parents, sick and weak people with compromised immune systems (cancer, aids, diabetes, chronic disease or lung disease).

ps: yes they already have potential vaccine candidates but testing them and make sure they dont have severe side effects will take at least a year...

What do you expect? People are offended by everything these days. They complain and then play Scalecaller's Peak, waddling through the snot of the pestilece mobs. Because Zaan is a pretty good monster set.

The problem isn't the virus per se, the flu is more widespread, and there is no "cure" either, but everyone of us is immune to thousands of stems of influenza, including future mutations that are closely related. The problem with the corona virus is that it is primarly spread among wild animals and only every once in a while a mutation can infect other species like humans. Thus almost nobody has antibodies and everybody can be infected.

All the prevention measures aren't for those 80% who get infected and won't even notice that they have anything worse than a cold. It's not even to buy time until a vaccine is available (i.e. a weakened virus that causes your body to produce antibodies without getting sick). The goal is to spread the 20% that need medical care over a longer period of time, so the doctors aren't overwhelmed and there is enough medical equipment available for the serious cases.

In MMO terms: Keep your calm, stay out of stupid and use block to avoid burst damage to the medical system.

the flu has a mortality of 0 01% and this virus currently sits between 3-6% with about 20% of cases taking a severe development with a mortality of 15%.

But 15% of 20% is 3%. That's just a complicated way of saying those hit hardest are most likely to die!
The actual mortality rate is also still quite unclear, and apparently very dependent on demographics. Germany with 4600 infected atm has a mortality rate of below 0.2, for example. You're also underestimating the flu at least by a factor of 10, which the CDC estimates at a mortality rate of slightly above 0.1.

Really it's not so much the number of dead we can expect is unheard of, it's that many people are going to be sick at the same time with something they have no immunity against, which overloads the health care systems, related institutions and burdens the economy as a whole.

Just stay inside and play ESO, people.

now think of it from the afflicted's side of the coin, do you think its fun for them to be reminded they dont have curable ailment atm because some scrubs found it "funny" ?

this is why i never make cancer or aids jokes. bad taste.
if its not curable yet, dont laugh at it lest karma get ya

You just don't make jokes about something other people or their loved ones could be suffering or even dying from, especially since you don't know those people in zone chat (and often not even those in your group). And do you realise how many people may stay healthy but still lose their jobs due to this crisis?

What's so hard to get? 🤷🏼‍♀️

sorry you are right about the 0.1% , made a 0 too much...was early in the morning :-)

well not exactly, the problem is that there are also people dying outside of these risk groups and its not entirely clear why...for example in my own country out of the 3 deaths i am aware of one was in his 50s and the other one in his 30s...

its also not entirely clear what could all be causing additional risks...

but as you mentioned, a lot is still very unclear - i think people should just be aware and take precautions...these are not to protect you most likely but people you love and care for and death rates could go dramatically up in case the hospitals get overwhelmed and dont have the infrastructure to handle the cases anymore...

Why do some people feel the need to make 'jokes' about disaster, tragedy or trauma?

It's understandable when the directly affected or suffering make light of situations and engage in 'gallows humour' themselves as a way of coping, but those looking on from afar, especially in a gaming forum, need better education.

The father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, argued that sick jokes were the mechanism by which the ego "insists that it cannot be affected by the traumas of the external world".

It's not entirely certain that those making jokes this time round will remain unaffected.

Stop bringing up the flu victims again and again whenever coronovirus is mentioned.

COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate than flu. Its about 3% vs 0.2%

And it's transmission rate is way higher than flu too.

Why would you even get a warning in the first place? Unless you were mocking someone or the people who died/are dying from the virus, I see no other reason why a warning would be needed at all.

Cheer up OP, have a meme.
