A medium house will have enough slots for all 8 containers. If you have ESO+, a small will have enough slots.

Actually, pets/mounts/assistants are classified as Special Collectibles. Storage containers do fall into the regular Collectible category. While in larger houses, the amount of Collectibles slots is much larger than Special Collectibles, in smaller ones the amount of slots for each is much closer. In the case of inn rooms, there is only one slot each (two with ESO+)

This tells you pretty much all you need to know:

There are 4 categories:
1. Traditional Furnishings
2. Special Furnishings
3. Collectible Furnishings
4. Special Collectibles
The last two tend to get confused - not surprisingly, as they both have the word Collectible(s) in them.
Chests are in category 3. Collectible Furnishings.
Category 4. Special Collectibles are pets, mounts and assistants.
A way to try to remember this, is that pets, mounts and assistants are living beings.
So, they may be special, but they are not furnishings.

Not too mention the double use of special, especially when one is used for only one kind of furnishing, mists of Hag Fen, as far as I can tell.
