Sad thing is people do some pretty crazy things like this.

In other games I’d just embrace it. No anon, just let it happen. Cyro is a pvp game so letting people know where you are so pvp can happen isn’t the end of the world.

If you focus on stuff like this instead of actual pvp it’s just a distraction.

Yeh, pc EU no cp DC faction will log into their ad alts, hyper inflate our pop so we can't get low pop bonus, and have their friends log into ep so DC can get low pop bonus. It's sad really

Yeah right, how often did AD get low pop bonus when alliances where locked? About 0 times. To blame it now on other factions is hypocrisy. Stop zerging so hard and join the underdogs if you want low pop bonus.

Ad never got low pop during faction lock cuz DC logged their ep alts, it wasn't as effective bcause most ppl weren't willing to buy a second account. Bit now the low pop bonus abuse is back on full force. And why would I join the trolliest faction on EU that thinks running over solo players or duo players in groups of 6-8 isn't zerging. No thnx. Cp DC isn't nearly as bad, but no cp is filled with the most toxic players out there.

Actually I can usually get away from their groups easy cuz they are one trick ponies. Sometimes they do however. That's cyro.

You don't need anything as complicated as two accounts to spy. All you need is a discord, skype or any other mechanism to tell the side you are spying for the information. I would ask though, since PvP has no rules and one of the major tenets is to gain the advantage over your opponents why would you expect ESO to try to do anything about spying? Seems to me that spying is part of PvP and it is up to you to find and expel the spy.

What you can do is what we do in real life. Counter espionage. Simply take your raid to a random place and run in circles for an hour. Not only will you confuse the spy that’s in your ranks, you’ll become great runners capable of recognizing clockwise and counter clockwise patterns. Problem solved, you’re welcome.

How to report it, and how is it possible to track it by ZoS?

What you speak of is not against the ToS. It is perfectly acceptable for one player to have multiple accounts and be logged into all of them at the same time. As long as they are not using any hardware or software to automate the activity of any of the accounts. It can be done all on the same PC or multiple PCs.

Jesica Folsom made this clear this past December.

In other words, as a raid leader, you are responsible for trying to weed out any spies from your group. The easiest means is to make sure everyone is following you unless you tell someone to stay back at a keep to watch for incoming attacks. See stragglers not moving and not turning in a quest then kick them from the group.

If you actually believe that people buy a second PC and account just to spy on your Alliance you should probably get off the internet for a while.

There's no such thing as a trusted guildmate, lol. We had a guy that rolled with us for years, and we only recently found out he would frequently log on to his 2nd account and act as a double agent.

True. I know of no one who actually buys a PC for that purpose. However, I know there are people like myself that happen to have more than one PC capable of running this game very well. My old gaming PC is only 3 years old.

But you are correct, the situation OP describes is very limited. Most that will spy with an alt account cannot easily see the screens for both games at the same time since most only have one PC.

The difference is in real war if there is a spy and they are caught you can execute them, not so much here. I would very much welcome a system to do that. A public execution system would be quite welcome.

I tested this myself by following some of the steps you indicated in your topic and enhancing them some.

I bought a second computer and monitor to test the potential of spying on the other faction by using two different accounts. I then shopped at Ikea to acquire more furniture to accommodate this set-up. My living room currently looks like SpaceX HQ.

Next step was to figure out how to play two independent characters simultaneously without breaking cover. I equipped my spy character with sunglasses and a hat, and the "read newspaper" personality. I then bought 2 bionic arms on the internet, which are capable of spamming light attacks and rezzing at the the nearest keep, two essential beginner player functionalities. So far this character has been invited to 3 EP raiding guilds and nobody has raised any suspicions.

So yeah, I agree. Spies could be a real problem in Cyro.

its cheaper to just buy 2 laptops like some people do I heard

I don't think there is a way to stop that without removing the ability for people to make toons on multiple factions. Even then, people can make new accounts.

Don't put critical strategy in zone chat.

They certainly do, in GW2 (or they have access to both already!) and some freely admit it.

Don't see why it would be any different here?

Unless ZOS stopped it, while Anet didn't.

New pvp players always take Cyrodill too seriously, and conspiracy theories appear from time to time.
No spies, sometimes just a bunch of trolls (scroll stealing) want to be in the spotlight.
If your faction wins today, then tomorrow will lose.

Campaign winners always change. Its a neverending cycle.

While there is no doubt that spying occurs, I find it comical that anyone sees any value in it. I can tell you, within a very small margin of error, what will happen between 5 and 11 PM on any given night. There's no mystery. At all.

The more harmful activity is the other factions' players who log in alt accounts to take up space in ours.
ZeniMax has no obligation to correct any errors or defects in the Services.

Do you know what you DONT need to spy on a group in Cyrodiil?

    A character in their faction.

A red player can spy on a yellow team by following them and telling their zone chat where the yellow group is heading. They'd also be able to say how many people are in the yellow group. Faction lock doesn't change that.

What other information could you get by spying?

Taking scrolls and giving it to the other team isn't even spying. Its handing something to a friend. Faction lock doesn't change that either.

I still don't know what the point of faction lock is.

I am not concerned about spies tbh

Because there are no secret documents or whatever they can give info about like in real worl wars

I mean what can they possibly tell enemy

Trolls are bigger concerns though, they hinder the flow of war. By destroying gates/bridges, stealin scrolls and hammer.
  • Captain_Slaymore
You do know that you don't need 2 computers and 2 discord accounts. A lot of the spying is done thru stream sniping. You, as the raid leader have no way of knowing who is streaming what or where. It just takes a person with a second monitor on the other side to watch the stream. Yeah, there is some delay, but not enough to matter. You can see a certain "famous" streamer doing it in one of his streams with his friend calling the action and answering questions off camera.

LOL bringing up real war in the forums of a fantasy game. Veterans of real wars can tell you death means death. There is no revive function or soul gems in a real war. I am pretty sure sticks are not a major weapon in a real war. So it is very irrelevant to bring up how things are handled in a real war.

Want to avoid spies, do not go with random pugs. Stick with groups of players you know. It really is that simple.
