The new non customizeble gamepad ui feels opressive

  • HllCntryHrrcane
The whole idea behind gamepad mode is NOT to bring xbox to PC but rather to allow pc players to play using a different interface. That is what is was and now it is not. It is now huge text, huge scaling, and addons moving all over the place.
  • HllCntryHrrcane
I'm surprised so many gamepadui users were able to use scaling at all. Scaling either never worked for me, or would shove elements off screen/make to small to use when I switched to gamepad. Never been able to use scaling so I got used to living without it. It's been fine, I like the way the gamepad UI looks.

I did not use scaling on gamepad mode. I could switch back and forth and nothing would change on my screen except the control method. In fact, now you need scaling as the scale for gamepad is TOTALLY different than keyboard/mouse.

I have pins in 2 fingers on my left hand and have a hellva time hitting the number keys. Gamepad mode was great. Many in my trial group agree...so disappointed.

Another thing I noticed with this change is that because KBM and Gamepad interfaces are now differently scaled, addons jump literally all over the place when switching between the two modes unless you keep the KBM scale at default as well. Several elements that are in the corners of the screen on KBM now end up off-screen in Gamepad mode, and items that are in the correct position in the corners on Gamepad are suddenly shifted much higher up, floating somewhere between the middle and bottom of the screen.

Agreed. Gamepad mode on PC should be the same resolution and scale as the keyboard mode. If you switch back and forth like I do stuff moves all around and even mostly off the screen.

They can fix this 1 of 2 ways.

    1. Give us scaling for gamepad mode separate from keyboard mode.

    2. Allow gamepad bindings to pass through in KB mode like KB passes through in gamepad mode.

I would prefer number 2 actually. That will allow us to have the KB UI and still use the game pad for movement.

I hope ZOS does SOMETHING! Too radical a difference between the 2 now to keep shifting between the 2 interfaces like some of us do. I use gamepad for farming mats and world stuff, but switch to keyboard for banking and guild store management.

Wow, I thought this was a bug when I loaded up the game but it's intentional? I'm not sure I can even continue playing if this isn't reversed. Everything is far too large now taking up most of my screen. On a 4k resolution looking like 480p. Terrible and disappointed.

I agree completely with this! I am not as physically able to play the game with keyboard and mouse on the PC as other players, so prefer using a gamepad.

This scaling change has effectively turned my 34" widescreen monitor into a 24" monitor as far as usable screen real estate. Everything in the HUD is so large, it leaves little actual gameplay space. I have spent close to two hours today tweaking the HUD layout and I am simply not happy with the sheer size of the onscreen assets. It is borderline unusable. For example, tooltips for items in my inventory are so large now the tops and bottoms scroll off screen. So to make the game usable I have to choose between enabling favorite addons or giving up on the massive scaling of the assets.

I get that this preset scale matters for console players when playing on a 55" or larger 4k TV. But the console players also don't use addons. Console players don't have powerful graphics cards that allow us to push more density on screen.

Please reenable scaling and fix the host of other UI problems scaling + gamepad caused. Even if you only allow some basic presets like 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x or whatnot, please allow us to shrink the HUD assets so we can actually use our PC monitors the way we would like.

As someone with dodgy eyesight who usually appreciates larger text on screen... it's now horrific. I hate how large everything is, it's really distracting. I already know the names of most of the merchants in Tamriel, I don't need them burned across the centre of my screen in giant text. I use a gamepad because my joints suffer less with it than a keyboard, my eyeballs function independently of what my hands are doing.

Advanced disable controller kind of works. Problem is that it's currently not working on immediate load, so you have to turn gamepad mode off then on again, and even with that the settings don't stay applied, so every time you boot the game you have to change the font settings. Given it was last updated in July last year, I don't know how likely it is that it'll get updated. Not that I don't appreciate the addon, but it's a sticky plaster on a gaping wound. We shouldn't have to rely on addons for basic accessibility.

    Looks exactly like console.

Not sure what the problem is here, tbh.

Well, mainly because when using a console you're looking at a TV whilst on a couch. Whereas on PC you're (most of us I assume) looking at your monitor at your desk

So console players are x feet away from the screen, whereas us PC players are inches away from the screen. We used to have an option to scale down the UI to fit accordingly, but that's been taken away with this latest patch, so now everything is HUGE and a complete eyesore.

i play on a couch ob pc on a 60inch tv, on 4k, 10 feet away anf its way way way too big and blurry...it MASSIVELY damaged immersion and makes the game simply look horrible even on max settings... let alone the lack of overview and scrolling marathons

I mean honestly what mmo in 2020 doesnt have ui customization and scaling....compare this to something amcient like swtor... what a joke.

the one good thing about this change is that i dont even need my glasses anymore to read whats on the screen and im basically blind for things further away than 2 feet...

Gah. Logging in post-update to find this isn't nice.

It's way too large on a good-sized monitor. I suspect it would be way too large on most TV screens from a metre or two away. The game is completely dominated by the UI at this point; it's invasive, ugly and legitimately makes reading anything on screen more difficult than with appropriately sized text. Even brief messages and details require you to scroll through or sweep your eyes fully across the screen.

ZoS, please look at this. It's not enjoyable.

I've been frustrated with the changes like everyone else, but just wanted to offer a big thanks for the Azurah recommendation.

While things still aren't perfect, this add-on works great and has made things alot like they used to be.

Oh well then, that just helps advance my point even further, thank you. This UI is ridiculously big and really needs the option to be scaled down in order for it to be viable

Even with the Azurah add-on, the chat window dominates almost 1/8th of my screen unless I shrink it down to where it’s nearly unreadable(8chars per line). The menus are ridiculous. Scroll fest aside, they’ve become to big to be user friendly in any way shape or form. You can tell me all you want that it isn’t bugged, but turning on values on my bars the text overlaps itself and they also become unreadable. I’m not sure what the “problem” with UI scaling in game pad mode was that doesn’t somehow exist in kbm mode, but I had never once turned scaling on and this has never before been a problem. What you should have done set the default sizing to match the resolution.

i will bet it has to do with the crown store. That is why they won't say.

I do want to thank Zos for saving me money. I was switching from console to pc but after this, I wont be. Was going to buy all this new stuff, now i don't.

  • Dreamerx213
I will not be playing until it is fixed and I have been playing since beta day one.
They will no longer get my money until they fix this mess.

I played this game with controller long before gamepad was even supported because I hate how it feels with
mouse and keyboard. It is an action mmo and just feels right with controller.
I am a PC gamer and sit no more then 3 feet from my monitor and this is just unacceptable in current state.

I hope they fix this soon because I love this game but refuse to convert to keyboard and mouse and will not
pay another dime until it is fixed.

Can't the chat window be resized using your cursor, and the font can be scaled down in the normal game options?

i think i have it at my lowest and it takes up a quarter of teh screen.

I think the big issue - pun not intended - is while the icons are big, they are low res and end up being actually harder to see big than small because they become so pixelated.

I am still 100% convinced this has to do with something not working on the crown store UI and i would love to see that verified just so that Zos gets buried. I wish gaming sites would write about this. Zos after 3+ years removes accessibility options citing UI issues that have been fine for the past 3 years.

everyone needs to email Zenimax *** - there is an email that has to do with accessibility and complain about what happened. They will have no choice but to immediately revert the changes. It would be the worst kind of PR.

Problem is if you use an controller but uses an monitor who you tend to sit close to
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I would be happy if ZOS would just allow the controller keybinds to pass through in keyboard mode just like the keyboard passes through while in gamepad mode. I don't need the menus or other things, the items that keybind are good enough for me. If I need something I can't do with gamepad, I can easily switch to keyboard and back.

I’d love to say it looks exactly like console, but it doesn’t. It looks like the UI items are scaled at a different resolution than my game. When I play 4K upscaled on my console, the quest indicator is a lot more than 2 inches from my compass. On PC my quest indicator, chat window(should I align it the same as console on the right side) literally stack and cover the right third of the screen. On console I’d say at most they take up 1/8th of that side. I also can’t seem to find a way to scale my UI items with Azurah. I’ve only been able to move stuff around where text no longer appears on screen but at least I have a viewable playing area now. This isn’t something that can wait for an update. This needs to be corrected in a patch and soon.

It is a shame that they treat the players who have supported this game for so long with actions like this.
We have stood by them even after them going buy to play and this is the respect we get.

If they never wanted controller support they should have never given it to us.
Why remove a feature that so may rely on after so may years?

We need a fix for this pronto!!!! give back the UI scaling option for gamepad or you will loose a bunch of loyal
players who have supported this game since it's birth.
