I've deleted my game folder from the HDD and decided to redownload it on a SSD. When i choose the folder it says i need to have 125 gb available? i thought this game suppose to be 50 GB downed from 80 GB so how 118 GB ssd isn't enough?

It needs temporary space to download the files to before it can run the installer to create the game. Best option is to download and install on your HHD then when fully installed move the files to your SSD.

125 GB sounds about right, actually surpised it doesnt need 150GB, 50 for download, 50 for install and 50 for the tmp files while doing it's thing...

Once upon a time, code was efficent, now it just rapid development!

I had 211GB free and it was still 'not enough disc space'. Was not expecting that, since I cleaned it up for this purpose. A little worried it'll now take me extra time. :(

This was a huge problem for me and a lot of other people. I suspect this is more of an issue than people's internet bandwidth. ZOS should've definitely stressed this better.

This is normally your save and config file also temporary space for when you download update after maintenances.

One upon a time installation couldn't run like that because you'd need a whole other floppy disk for the temp files.

(Although 1, or more, for installation and another for running the program was quite common. Even when games moved to CDs I remember Disc 1 only ever being used to install and Disc 2-4 being the ones you used to run it.)

Boomers should be reminded we live in 2020 when downloading+patching is done in-line and in-place without the need of additional large temp buffers.

This is maybe where ZOS ARE heading with part of this update...

Yes, good practice if you plan to overwrite files like saving a game or an word document is to save as an temp file, then delete the old save and rename and move the temp file to replace it. In this way an crash during save will not ruin the file.

Yes this take up more space but its far safer. And yes this is redundant for ESO since you need an updated game to play so its no point keeping the old.

Make sure to move the launcher's folder as well and update your shortcuts to it.
The game doesn't require any registry entries.

make sure you launched from the new location as the old shortcut will look for the old file path

    I did,same problem.
A new folder appeared for some reason, called "depot" it weights 51 GB... all together is beyond 121 GB and above my ssd space... (isnt the game suppose to be 50 GB now? )

can't really launch... if u use the folder icon it's opening the game directly, not the client. so u can't create a new one.

My pc update went fine but I had removed some games I haven't been playing so had more than enough space. My Mac update (I mostly use it for low key stuff like writs while I'm traveling) was much more painful because of how macos has chosen to manage disk space. (I had lots of 'purgable' space from me explicitly deleting files, but that didn't count for the launcher)

Needing to have 125 gigs free on my SSD on top of the 80g game installed already is something that should have been an announcement as big as the forum notice about the patch itself.

Just as I did with backing up files yesterday, I would have gladly prepared by moving the files ahead of time, so that when I left my patcher open to download and woke up on the west coast to finding out the install wouldn't work after the fact, I wouldn't now have to wait hours for it to download when their servers are even busier. (Already two hours since I restarted after moving the files and it's at 14%). This entire inconvenience I'm going through is zos' fault for not informing their customers better.

Hopefully the trouble is worth it in performance at least.
