Blocking + Roll Dodge

I was wondering if anyone could explain in some detail how each of these mechanics work. Almost 100% of my deaths occur due to being one-shot by bosses. I am still confused about when to block vs dodge, as well as how to know when these one-shot attacks are incoming. Are there any good world bosses to learn and practice defensive mechanics, preferably solo? I don't want to waste other's time dying repeatedly to things I'm sure I should already know. Any advice is appreciated.

Start from enabling Combat Cues in settings. It shows a distinct animation on the boss' body when its powering up for a ''heavy attack'' that can one shot you

Never block big scary white line attacks unless you are the tank. By big scary ones I am referring to bosses and the bigger trash mobs.

In vet DLC dungeons some heavy attacks can do nearly 15k damage through a tank’s block. Squishies will not survive it.
