Why are consoles always two weeks later

I know you have to send in patches for them to authorized but they can do it within a day, at worse less than a week so there is no need for the delay every time. Chapters are released on the same day, cant we get everything else back on track

chapters arent released on same day and telling they can do it within day seems to be based on what source?

    Microsoft.

back in the day it use to take a couple weeks. They have streamlined it. It can be done in a day - you have to pay more, but it no longer takes 2 weeks.

    You can google it.

Sony also has a quick certification process as well.
But it takes ZOS time after final PTS testing to make changes and summit the patch.

Porting from PC to console always has bugs that needs to be ironed out, it's not just a copy/paste. How about we don't rush them on porting already broken patches.

I meant source of actual developer going thru the same process as ZoS and managing it within day. If you dont have those you know nothing about how long it takes to get everything ready, send and how for real long it takes to be accepted.

Sony/Microsoft "review process" Look at the bright side you can enjoy your current setup if you ever encounter any nerfs with your current build, lol.

the review process is very quick now, not like it use to be so there really is no reason for it to be two weeks. And lets be honest, does ms and sony actually review it? ESo patches keep making things worse.

No, MS actually says they do it in a day (rush) if you pay.

not sure if you noticed, but when there is a bug in the pc version that same but is ALWAYS still there for console release. They never fix them.

I've only heard Gina on a ESO live broadcast say that and yeah...I agree...it shouldn't take that long and you know they're not reviewing much of anything.

Good joke. PS4 is ridden with performance problems. I doubt they conducted any testing before releasing this disaster of a patch. There wasn't any ironing out involved.

I'm assuming that the day they release the PC update is the same day they send it to MS/Sony for certification. I would expect that it goes through some sort of certification. No, they aren't going to thoroughly test for bugs, and any bugs that make it to live on PC are going to make it to live on consoles. Certification probably is just making sure the update doesn't brick consoles.

Also, maybe the final version doesn't get sent to MS/Sony when it's released on PC. When it goes live on PC, then ZOS considers it "ready" and presumably there might be some extra steps for it to function on consoles? I'm not sure how close the code is between PC and console, and I assume they wouldn't do any necessary code work for consoles until they consider the patch final.

These are all just assumptions, but I'm sure it's not as simple as OP makes it out to be. Would I like to be playing it on XB on PC launch date? Sure, but I can wait a couple weeks.

It's not about the certification process exclusively. It's a buffer time for them to make sure to the best of their abilities, that the patch does not run into any issues.

Hot fixing a newly released update on the pc client is a non issue. Doing so on console costs them time and potentially money.

You say console players get the patch 2 weeks late. I say pc players get to test the pts for 2 extra weeks.

For the same reason that they release patch notes seemingly minutes before stuff goes live. Because they do not know exactly what is in patch until that point. ZOS seems to add stuff and remove stuff from patches at the last possible second. So if they sent to consoles ahead of time (even using some kind of 1-day fast-track process), they still run risk of getting certification for a stale version of game. At which point they have to resubmit and potentially delay console release.

I am guessing that if ZOS were the type of company that had update locked down ahead of time, you might see them put in extra effort to synchronize releases. If the final PTS release matched the live release, you might see them put in extra effort to synchronize releases. But ZOS seem to tinker right up to the PC deadline.

Hi there, I worked for Stadia certification and now work as a build master at another studio.

Consoles have certification processes. After x amount of good certification passes you get expedited which take anywhere from a day to a week. While slow certs (usually big changes or new SDKs) can take a week to two weeks.

You're essentially dealing with the console companies to say its a good product to go on the store / be updated.

2 weeks is a good buffer period, ideally you are submitting your build / closing down your build weeks in advance, but ESO may also work close to the dead line and push PC out first due to this.

Its all up to the game, some are 3 months + out, some are a month out, some are same day as PC (If you're really good) and some are 2 weeks. It just takes time and good practices.

and how has that worked out considering most of Zos patches cause further damage.

That's honestly how I view it. I recall a few times where there were some pretty... urhm.... significant issues that happened with the PC/Mac releases. It doesn't bother me to wait a couple weeks. Especially for something like a dungeon DLC that still doesn't have any sort of single-player story mode attached to it, so I don't care at all about the content anyway. XD
