Best place to live in Tamriel?

Where's your favorite place to live? Taking into account closeness to picking up/turning in crafting writs, traders, outlaw's refuge and decent housing etc? I've been "living" in Riften for quite some time, but feel like settling elsewhere (not Elsweyr) just for a little change of scenery. I have quite a lot of "neighbors" too, that I've known for years, and PVP or do PVE with on a somewhat regular basis. Can actually "hang out" in the town square to hook up with people. ;-)

Been looking around a bit now and then, but can't find a better place to be fair. I have my Mistveil manor nearby, where I can have all my storage containers, a DPS dummy in the yard, all crafting stations in the stable and so on. Picking up and turning in writs is very fast (except master ones, of course), and occasional stolen goods is easy sold there as well. Haven't found anything that can compare so far! My real main mansion is Hakkvild's Hall though, but it's very far off, and not practical at all.

So, where's your "home town"? What's your ideal/most practical location in Tamriel?

I didn't think this belonged under "Housing"; because it's about so much more.

    Claws Meadow Village, Elsweyr.

Family, warm sands, a fine tavern and even our very own cheese room.

No better place for anyone to call home in Tamriel.

If you take crafting into account if you don't say Rimmen you're just wrong lol. You walk out the door and there are the daily writs and all the stations.

Tel Galen, Sadrith Mora, Vvardenfell. Though the Saint Delyn apartment is located in the Vivec City itself, you have to pass through two load screens to reach the merchant's district while using a teleport spell from any other house - one only. I prefer to live in a Telvanni tower or that Redoran styled house near Gnisis.

Crafting writs in open, bank, stable, easily accessible Thieves Guild hideout, decent traders and wayshrine. And is generally sunny.

But banker is not. And crafting stations look all the same so it can make you dizzy if you'll do writs on multiple characters. In Vivec there is distinctive way - take equipment writs -> clothier -> blacksmith -> woodworking -> jewelry -> take consumables writs which can be already pre-prepared since they don't take that much space in inventory. Then you may jump on mount directly from elevation above thieves den to the crafting writs delivery point. And banker is always near without loading screens or necessity to ride to another side of town.

Happy to see so many different suggestions, I'll take a while to check each of these suggestions - after hopefully a few more drop in. I have housing in quite many areas, since I've had a "thing" for making special theme or racial styled homes. Not necessarily the biggest ones, but big enough to house some storage containers etc.

Mournoth Keep in Bangkorai. I love the style of the home, and the location. I have a way shrine right outside my house. I also have a Dolman there for a quick loot drop.

This right here. If you do writs on multiple toons and not just one Vivec is easily the fastest method by mass crafting and bank stowing the consumables. The crafting stations are basically laid out in a line to perfectly guide your daily crafting journey and no load screen for a banker that's right there in the crafting area. The turn in is just a 5-10 second sprint away depending if you mount or just run.
The only real problem is not having a house right out next to the writ area you have to go through your house exit loadscreen and then another black load screen before getting outside, then make your run to the craft area which is why my alts simply log out there instead.

Sometimes I like to login on my mains in house and even leave them near their quarters when logging out etc... but to do it daily for all characters... anybody will become tired of it very fast. House is a separate instance, by logging into house and then coming out of it for crafting and then coming back... it is 3x more loading screens, so imo crafting is crafting and roleplaying is roleplaying, it is impossible to do both for any prolonged period. Imagine that there will be roleplaying show at work each morning... once in month it can be fun, but if it will be daily people simply will come to Sheo soon.

I find Alinor pretty convinient for crafting, bank/guild store stuff and occasionally selling to fences. Also there's both an inn room and a large house in the city, so you've got a free teleport to the city and space for a couple of storage chests, or a full house if you're willing to spend the gold. (Something in between would be nice, but I don't think they've put 3 houses in any city.)

Admittedly I'd decided my crafter would live in Summerset for RP reasons before the Summerset expansion was even announced, so it's kind of a coincidence that Alinor is also convinient for him, but if it wasn't I might have decided he moved somewhere else instead.

I guess I'm the only guy so far that camps out in Shornhelm in Rivenspire. I've got a little circuit I do with my alts that covers all the necessities - bank to metal/cloth, down to woodwork and stablemaster, up to thieves guild, cut thru the middle to get to outfit, jewelry, enchanting (also alchemy although that doesn't seem to come up as much), and finish the circle at the bank. The crafting writs are spread out along the circuit, although I don't generally do writs but they're conveniently there if I ever decide to add them to the routine. There are some loading screens - bank, TG, enchanting/jewelry and alchemy, but they're all really convenient - and then a wayshrine just a few steps away from the bank if I want to return to my questing

All told, it's been my go-to for years, and I've never come across another location that feels as...easily accessible, to my personal needs.

I consider Riften to be my "home base" as everything is conveniently close together and I don't have to think on where to go (including the thieves' refuge). I do sometimes go back to Marbruk for a change of scenery.

For newer zones Alinor and Rimmen are also very convenient.

Deshaan. Provision area downstairs, multiple traders in a convenient circle around a centered wayshrine, crafting stations just outside the circle of traders...and bank right down the stairs from there. And most importantly the giant pointed rock above one trader where people can go and stand atop looking cool.

For me, it’s the Witches Cottage in Glenumbra. It’s has sooooooo many slots compared to other houses that size it can really feel stuffed and cozy.

For pure convenience it’s Rimmen Sugar Bowl suite. Alinor’s free inn room, or that Khajiit style house in Rawlkha. I don’t like houses that are so strongly styled because I can’t put my own style.

Well, for crafting I rather like Marbruk. Housing there isn’t all that convenient, but I keep my crafters near the stables. Not the best or anything. I find it mostly quiet, which is nice enough for me.

I can run to the first board easy, do blacksmithing and clothing, then down stairs to wood. Then I drop off the first load on the way to second writ board. This means I do have to have Jewelry done at last a day ahead in inventory, but that’s easy. After I grab the second board I head inside to do up anything I didn’t have pre-crafted. I like to do up stuff ahead a lot so not usually necessary. I forget often though. After that I drop off second load, check to see what I got, and head them back to the stables. Yes, my crafters get their exercise.

Anyway, crafting and living are two different things for me. Personally, if I were to actually live in the game, I would choose a remote location away from the cities. I usually have Mournoth Keep as my main place because, like someone else mentioned, it has the wayshrine nearby.

Sleek Creek house in Rawl'kha for me too. If I get into 'difficulties' with the guards, I can port back there and nip straight into the outlaws refuge. I can watch people posing on the rock outside the bank while I do my crafting, which is a nice bonus...

I got the small apartment, but I think I couldn't place more than one storage chest there. It's otherwise like my "second home", the town itself. It's a small bit of running around to do the crafting, but pretty ok at large.

Another vote for the beautiful layout of Vivec's crafting area. If you might be prone to the odd bounty or two, it's an even better option. Jump in the house, sneak past the one guard and you're safely in the thieves den which then opens up to the crafting area and you can also sneak to the shrine.

    Ugly house/room but so practical!
