What’s the standard bar setup for a MagDK? Fossilize is awesome, whip is awesome, the flame breath I like a lot. That’s as far as I’ve gotten.
What does the typical MagDK burst combo look like? The standard extra fire damage dot - fossilize - whip spam doesn’t seem to work on tanky targets.
Anyone try prox det for BGs? Time it, or try to, with leap?

Embers. Particularly handy if you’re running Succession. Embers and just doing what you’d normally do on a MagDk keeps Succession up in the 90% minimum range.
The classic burst combo I was taught was Fossilize, talons, Flame Lash powerlash Leap. That’s old school.
There are other little burst combos depending upon what you’re wearing. Skoria for instance. We used to time leap’s with Skoria.
Then there’s “recognizing aburst window”. Save a Fossilize for 1/4 health or execute range. Fossilize the dummy then, circle behind me them and unloads. Works sometimes.
I was taught damage is your execute. DOTS (as weak as they are) and whips can wear dummies down. So, pressure is key. Embers and FLAME lash enable you to heal and stay offense. Nowadays, against some classes you have to stay offensive or you lose. (1v1 vs Magplar for instance. Just keep reapplying your DOTs when they take em off. It’s cheaper for you to put them on, than for them to take them off)
Fossilize is central to your burst. It’s the “setup.” So always watch the dummies feet and health bar.
I run Succession, Bright Throat’s, 2 piece Kena. Embers whip, cauterize, Fossilize, Engulfing/talons-main morph (I swap them depending on my mood) Leap. Then, Coag, Volatile, Degen, Ele Drain, Undo.
Hits like a truck. Damage is your execute.

At least be as conequent with your "standartization" to give this class access to an execute.
And before anyone comes up with [snip] like "leap is your execute" no its not. Its an ULTIMATE. And unless it deals x% more damge against players below y% HP, it remains as such.

MagDk is not the only class lacking excute. Bow builds, s&b builds, magdens, magnecro, and pve magsorc are other classes/specs beside magdl that don't have an excute or their excute is weak for it to be used.

Nice, I’ll try it out. I tried this and went lightning front bar thinking I’d be heavy attacking a lot, but rarely do. I’m thinking I need to replace Zaan as well.

I tried embers and didn’t think much of it, I’ll try it again and sub out inhale.

I used to think the same thing about embers but it’s an INCREDIBLE heal, particularly when you put it on multiple targets.
Try it in PvE and use combat metrics and you’ll see. It’ll be the majority of your heals. So, in PvP ALWAYS keep that on people. The more the better. If I run by any NPCS in Cyro, I slap Embers on them and don’t even try to kill them. As long as those NPCS are alive, I’m getting some heals.
Front bar weapon. Flame staff is about as meta as it gets. Get those heavies in though. SnB front bar ain’t so bad either. If you need to be a bit tanky. Heck I run front bar DW sometimes because I always just liked it. For me it’s always seemed easier to weave lol. But there’s better stuff to run.
For the last couple of patches (maybe last 3) it’s been “monster set of choice.” MagDk has been that viable. Kena is really good at 8% over 20%. You can SUSTAIN Kena now lol. Skoria always good. 1 Domihaus 1 ANYTHING works (like 1 Chudan). Zaan is meh since Elf Bane won’t make it op (for PvP).
Try different monster sets. There’s no one and only one to run on a MagDk right now. Try Shadowrend for duels.
