Concerning holidays

Hello everyone,
I am not sure if this is the right part of the forum for this post, but since there are currently two Indrik-related threads floating about, I believe I am not too much out of context. I promise that I will mention the Anniversary event at least once, in order to have some connection to PTS material.

While I generally like festivals in games and am actually looking forward to the more narrative driven ones ( that is: New Lifes Festival, Witches Festival and even Midyear Mayhem - when it is actually happening during Midyear ) the ones only added to celebrate a certain chapter, dlc or playstyle are mostly annoying to me. This is not because I don’t like the content that they focus on, but because it actually does more harm than good from the point of making people (re)discover a certain portion of the game. I once decided to join in on the Clockwork Event and replay the dlc during the event and stopped very soon. The area was simply so crowded, that questing wasn’t any fun at all. The same goes for Midyear Mayhem. While I occasionally enjoy a spot of cyrodilic violence, joining the fight in Cyrodiil at the moment is nothing but annoying - endless queues to get in, random loading screens … I assume you know what I am referring to.

About the only not-narrative-driven event I like is the Anniversary Event, because who can refuse cake, right? Especially if you can add it to your homes, which is so awesome.

What I would prefer instead would be culturally and seasonally inspired holidays, many of which have been mentioned in previous TES games. Cultural holidays could focus on all the areas inhabited by a certain race, while seasonal holidays could offer a variety of quests centering around a certain topic while accommodating different playstyles. For example instead of having a Thieves Guild DLC Event, there could be a Redguard holiday sending people to Hew’s Bane, the Alik’r, Bangkorai and Craglorn (or Redguard themed dungeons and delves) to do event related things. This would also offer options to add some content for races who haven’t gotten much attention in the past - Bosmer for example. On the seasonal side of things, dates such as the Summoning day of Meridia could add quests related to battling undead creatures - of which there are plenty all over the map, so it would be easy to also sneak in pvp and dungeoneering related activities.

The rewards for such events could similarly be matched to the festival’s theme, adding the possibility to offer content not directly linked to the theme of the current chapter, adding a mix of the usual emotes, costumes, outfits, pets and furnishing objects. How about instead of (or addition to) the altmeri dog-deer-mount add a little garden shed furnishing item, which - similar to the Indriks - could be further modified to reflect either racial styles or different purposes - let's say a chicken pen with one or two chickens picking about?

Thanks for reading - and also Yay for birthday cake!

I must say I genuinely like this idea. Gives some added flavor for jumping between zones and tackling a wider variety of content while getting a more in depth look at the various races of Tamriel.
