I feel like I'm the only ESO player who didn't play Skyrim...

If you get Skyrim with all dlc cheap, install the unofficial fixes to thousands of bugs and whatever other mods you care and give it a try. I think Oblivion (with Shivering Isles) is better but it's a matter of taste. Morrowind is less dumbed down than both Skyrim and Oblivion but has not aged well.

You won't be missing anything besides probably a few Easter Eggs and Memes. ESO is set centuries before any of the single player games so you will not be missing any background lore.

The reason Skyrim, the single player game, is so popular is that it can be massively modded so some very talented modders have kept the game up do date with graphic updates, gameplay updates and such like.

TES: Morrowind, TES: Oblivion, TESO > Skyrim.

Skyrim is not a bad game but it's definitely overhyped and is not needed to enjoy anything in ESO.

I started with Oblivion when I was a kid, then Morrowind, then Daggerfall, then Skyrim.

    TES games are consistently entertaining!

You're not alone! I tried Skyrim several different times and couldn't get into it. 3rd person combat was horrible to me I'm guessing because it was really meant to be played in 1st person, something that I abhor.

Though with all the new mods the melee combat looks greatly improved and I'm definitely interested in seeing what it feels like as a proper 3rd person game.

I have played it extensively, but not for the same reasons as ESO. They're have very different gameplay. That being said, Skyrim was mindblowing at release, and still holds true to being a solid game.

I came into the franchise very late as well. Only around a year or 2 ago really but skyrim was my first elder scrolls game. I only got into the franchise because a friend bought gifted me a copy of skyrim on steam. I ended up playing oblivion later and eso later. But after playing eso it's kind of hard for me to get back into skyrim but that's mostly just because of the combat. I'm probably one of the only people to play this game in first person.

It is actually great game. I enjoyed it a lot and if you like the single player RPG, you should go for it.

Combat system is much more simpler but you can adjust the difficulty and exploration wise... they have just done the game right.

Races in Skyrim do not look so different though. Like in ESO you can look at a Bosmer from behind her head and understand she is a Bosmer!

Also if you are going to play it I'd highly recommend getting an unofficial patch which removes all the exploitations and many bugs in the game so you can have a smooth experience :)

If you're going to play Skyrim play it with mods on PC or Xbox? The mods are not as good on the PS4 version. Something about assets. It makes the vanilla Skyrim game so much more interesting.

I didn't either - was too busy playing WoW, at the time.

Someone I talked to, on there, said he played it and it was good, though.

I didn't play Skyrim as well. My TES time was mostly Morrowwind and Oblivion. Playing ESO for a little while now and I don't feel like it ruined anything for me.

Here's what I'll say about mods.

If you're on PC then first stick to basic ones like Ui mods. Play the game yourself and see what kind of ways you'd like to improve the experience after you've played for a while

If you want to extensivley overhaul the Skyrim experience then check out "Wabbajack mod lists".
Truth is that Modding is a lot of time & investment that requires dozens of hours of testing.
Wabbajack mod lists provide pre-made mod lists by others who already tested it & worked out all the kinks.

Yes, 3rd person combat in Skyrim felt weird, Fallout 4 was the first Bethesta game I felt that 3rd person worked in.

I wish we had this available for consoles. Not to mention having the ability to put our mods in the correct order. I know there is a program for PC that does that. Just can't think of it off the top of my head :D

I played a few hours of Skyrim and abandoned it.

I played both Morrowind and Oblivion to the enth degree. I sank a great deal of time and effort into these games, enjoying them immensely.

When I started Skyrim, it may be that I was a bit RPGd out, or that I just had other priorities in life, but after a few hours I just gave up. I recall trying to get from A to B, but being blocked by mountains, then having to retrace my steps and travel around half the map, all to progress the story. I just thought, nah, feck this. Never loaded it back up again.

This has had precisely zero impact on my enjoyment of ESO.

I have 1314 hours play time on vanilla skyrim, 470 hours on skyrim special edition. Base game is good for a few play throughs but what really makes it shine is mods. Currently playing a relic hunter Khajiit who owns a museum in Solitude. Pretty much everything I find that has some significance can be displayed in the museum. It even has a curator and guards which patrol. Even guests which turn up to see the displays and pay donations to me.

It's basically the ultimate mod for a "completionist" play style.

I'm slightly hesitant to name the mod in case it triggers some forum moderator. But just google solitude museum skyrim. You won't have to look far.

    LOOT.

And yeah, I own a PS4, and I love the games I have on it...but they're all platform exclusives, and this is a big reason why. If I can play it on PC, I do. The Switch is a little different, since it has the advantage of being portable (even more so than my laptop).
