Without increased cost it would be BiS for both PvE and PvP without any doubt.
nope not even close. Relequens outperforms it by at least 6K on a 21 mill dummy. ive tested it thoroughly.
parsing average 56k on NMA with 4k base wep dmg.
parsing average 63k on Rele with 3.2k base wep dmg.
(gold 5 piece all medium divines - combined with Deadly and Veli)

Agree 100 percent. The hoops I have to jump through to make clever alchemist viable, which isabout the same damage buff as new moon, is crazy, whereas NMA you can just slap it on, and go to town, hardly notice any difference in cost.

As it is, there is a strong PvP (especially Stamina) monoculture of gear that this set has created, it is simply too good not to be using on damage characters.
Few sets give you comparable Weapon or Spell Damage on their own (~600) but the key difference is that all of those comparable sets have BIG limitations on uptime (Moon Hunter, BSW, Scathing Mage) or have other heavy restrictions (Spell Strategist applies only to one target) on their use.
Meantime, NMA is ALWAYS ON and applies to ALL TARGETS and is paired with Penetration, another rare and highly desirable PvP trait.
The alternative solution is to simply buff every other set in the game so that choosing NMA is no longer the obvious slam-dunk solution that it is today.
(And it's SUPER EASY to obtain just by visiting the Guild Stores or asking in your guild chat, so that is really not a compelling reason for this set to be wildly OP.)
Elemental Succession on a MagDk is WAY better than NMA. You forgot Succession...Besides 5% increase on the cost of Leap! (and Leap’s CHEAP), makes NMA TRASH...on a MagDk lol.
Chunky’s pro-tip of the day:
On a Stamina Warden, Spriggans is better than New Moon Acolyte. Test them and see for yourself.
This pro-tip brought to you by the catch phrase: [snip]
Edit for inappropriate remark.

It kind of feels like New Moon Acolyte and Ancient Dragonguard were designed to be used together, so the cost increase is meant to help balance an almost 800 point increase in both weapon and spell power with some armor baked in.
I have been running both on my magblade and it is pretty powerful. The Resistance increase from AD on top of the undeath passive is great.
I'm going list some sets that were rendered almost useless by the introduction of NMA
Elemental Succession
Hunding's Rage
Law of Julianos
Innate Axiom
Knight's Errant Mail(tbf it was always useless, but even worse now due to NMA)
Sword Dancer
Burning Spellweave
Armor of Truth
Netch's Touch
Strength of the Automaton
Spider Cultist Cowl
Scathing Mage
Moon Hunter
Dro'zakar's Claws
Sword-Singer
Armor of the Veiled Heritance(rip)
Seventh Legion Brute
Vampire Lord(was always a joke)
Way of Air
Soulshine
Swamp Raider
Silks of the Sun
Ysgramor's Birthright
Flanking Strategist
Briarheart
War Maiden
Ravager(rip)
Literally all of those sets were replaced by NMA. The only reason why you'd ever use one of them anymore is if you use them alongside NMA.
If a 5% cost increase is a problem for you, then that's exactly what it is. A problem for YOU, and you need to work on fixing it because you're obviously doing something wrong.

while i agree with the spirit of this post, the bolded sets are procs and can be single barred, which make them for valuable for a lot of builds over NMA.

Most people have nma on one bar and potentates on the back bar.
