I finally got all of the Cyrodiil skyshards a few months back during the Imperial City event. Everyone was so busy fighting the bosses in the Imperial City and Imperial City Sewers that Cyrodiil was basically deserted, and one night my alliance opened up the enemy's gates and I was able to race past the guards, go into sneak, and grab the skyshards I was lacking.

But I still need to grab a few skyshards in Southern Elsweyr, because I've been lax about completing that DLC's content.

What i cant understand is why players are attacking me. I'm clearly NOT fighting anyone and i am displaying the explorer title. Yet people stopped me three times from getting a stupid sky shard...

Cyro can be a pretty toxic places. PVP'ers will say that its the nature of the game and you should just deal with it. Technically true, but still rude. I usually abide by a "you leave me and I'll leave you rule" in PVP places and while some people are cool with that (shoutout to the three guys in IC who left me alone to fish when they realized I wasn't going to fight back) you'll get an equal if not greater amount of people who'll hassle you for the easy kill.

Also when gates are open you'll get people who camp the skyshards knowing that other factions will be racing there eventually. Same with that annoying one in Bruma.

I'm not into pvp. I got caltrops on one character and while I didn't hate it it just wasn't for me. But Cyrodiil is a war zone, not a duelling arena. Once you go in there you're a target. Just dust yourself of and try again. You'll get there eventually. And you can always try sneaking carefully off of the beaten path.

Its a PVP-enabled zone with no safe conduct. They get AP and quest rewards from killing enemy players, whether or not those enemy players fight back or not. There's certainly no benefit to them to allow an enemy player to roam behind their home gates even if you know that all you want is the skyshards.

I'm always a little surprised when players expect that people won't attack them in a PVP zone. Even when I was a scared PVE-only player who was only in Cyrodiil for my Master Angler fish, I expected to die if another player found me.

Oh and skyshards furnishing achievement make for some impressive spotlight stagelighting! Very satisfying albeit frustrating achievement. Especially if you get bagged a few times. Or a gate closes behind you...So close you almost had it!

If you are frustrated getting the Cyrodiil sky shards you need. An easy way may be to make a character on the appropriate faction, claim those skyshards, then when you have the achievement purchase the skyshards you need in the shop.

I did not get all the Cyro Shards until about 4 years after Launch, and only on one character.

I used one of the Resource Campaigns where the map flips to each Alliance throughout the day. I logged in one day, saw my Alliance had the whole map so both gates were open. Went in one, grabbed the shard i needed. Suicided and resurrected at a Keep outside the other gate, ran in and grabbed those two. I snuck the whole time, but never saw another player.

It's an amazing feeling getting those last ones! I kept queuing into Cyro on multiple campaigns over multiple weeks to check the gates. There's definitely some panic when you see a gate open, but you have to ride all the way across the map to get to it haha

That's just how it is.

On one of my alts, I needed the DC skyshards as well. Got to Cyrodiil, I think during one of the Midyear Mayhems in the morning. I'm EP and the map was all yellow.

Ran across the map, got killed by the guards because the horse didn't have enough stamina. Ran across the map again, got in this time, got the skyshard.

Got killed by a player on the way out. Ran across the map again to the southern gate, got killed by a player (mind you DC was starting to wake up and they wanted their keeps back). Got across the map one last time and made it in and snuck to the skyshard, then suicided at the temple.

LOL to be honest....those are likely other PvErs getting their feet wet in PvP.
Something you can try doing to indicate peaceful intentions is hopping up n down with block up or simply stop riding forward n stay mounted(shows your not attacking)...scrubs will still kill you...but true PvPrs will likely ignore you

One of the last times I was there we were gated so I had to ride out. On the way out I saw someone from an opposing faction running toward me. I killed them. It became apparent afterward that they weren't a PvPer and they weren't there for the scroll. They came right back and I moved out of the way of the gate.

It's hard to tell sometimes. Good luck though if you're still after them.

Once you get through the gate, sneak to a place near the skyshard where you can watch it but not be discovered by a passing player, and wait for a few minutes to see if anyone is camping it. Once you feel that it’s clear, sneak up to it, buff up, cast a self heal-over-time, and activate it. If someone was patiently camping it in stealth and attacks you, you might be able to survive long enough to complete the acquisition, and then if they kill you, you get a free port to your next destination. I enjoyed the risk of getting skyshards in enemy territory. It’s spicy.

I CAMP the area inside the gates by Fara. The burnt out house has an upstairs right above the sky shard. Lol. I got all the skyshards in the game. You want em. Fight for em. ACHIEVE something lol.

Me and a buddy of mine scoped it out. Figured out good LOS paths and everything.

I remember nightcappers would take everything on the map, keeps, Scrolls, you name it. Then, dummies think they can just waltz in and scoop up the skyshard lol. Nah...you gonna have to BRAWL for that.

LOL yeah. I got the sky shards so long ago (On four characters across three factions actually) and all of the dolmens (on only two) back in 2014.

But cyrodill was friendlier back then. I remember getting past a DC gate and running into three opponents. We danced a little bit and they escorted me to the sky shard. After I got it they cheered... Then they killed me. :-)

But my impression is that scrolls are rarer to go after these days and the servers feel a bit unstable. Plus the players are a lot more aggressive. So if the person is having issues I offered a way to get it fast.

Edit: Just as an aside, I believe I also have all the sky shards in the game on one of those characters, WITHOUT buying any.

I did tonight get the final two by the highrock gates

Passed someone behind the gate who killed me the first one i went through but the second time i ran straight through it no problem.

Ok, i'm done now. Nothing left to do HAHAHAAHAHAHA

delete the account and start over.... wash, rinse, repeat.... ahahhahaha... one can do that with steamy steam steam...

oops i forgot i have the one left in the wailing prison to get yet... better do that now...
