SOMEONE still paid real money to ZoS, which supports their crate system, even if the person who ultimately opened them only spent in-game gold. So in this case, buying with virtual currency just adds a middle man or two and changes nothing for anyone morally opposed to them.
Personally, I say gold, cash, however you pay doesn't matter - spend what you have however you want and don't let others dictate your happiness. ✭I always buy a bunch of crates (the pack of fifteen crates), and this time I liked most of what was inside - there were crate seasons I certainly didn't like as much.
I got the frost atro horse (I like the sounds it makes, very ... frosty), frozen eyelashes, cute doggo and coaly bear mount, plus I spent some crown gems on the coaly horse.

✭They are great and exactly what I have been waiting for, for two of my characters. But given the average person will have to shell out a truly ridiculous amount of money for one to drop in a crate [snip].
Just put apex drops up for direct purchase in the Crown store, so that I can choose what pixels to spend my money on. Its not even that I cannot afford it, its the principle. Crates are ridiculously over priced.
Gambling mechanics, sorry "surprise mechanics" are a sick joke.

I am precisely the opposite. What breaks my immersion is a normal looking mount, materialising out of thin air. This only makes sense to me, from an immersion perspective, if the mount is magical. Most of my characters have magical styles of mount as a result.6 -

Well exactly, clearly the only way for the mounts to be "summoned" in such a fashion, is some form of magic. So this is another reason I dont mind magical/fantasy mounts. I guess thats why I find it strange an ESO player would complain about magical mounts in a world of magic.0 -

Do you know that in Elder Scrolls you can summon daedra in any form that is determined by a spell? For example, bound armor pieces and bound weapons are actual daedra creatures (scamps, dremora, etc) in a form of equipment.
