How to stop inventory space issues in ESO

I use Alt's inventory as extra bank space since I only play maybe 3 toons at any given time, with only one of them being the current main toon, I just cold store gear I want to keep for future use, but don't want to trash yet, in their inventory to free up bank and storage container space. I just keep track of which alt will have what kind of gear.

OP does have a point. I know my inventory is filled with sets I have never used and likely will never use. I have them because there is a slight chance Zos will change something and they will be useful.

This has happened before. I had saved a plethora of axes, daggers, and other weapons from some sets that all had bad traits. Powered daggers were never good. Now we can trait change. So it has paid off in spades but it does mean my inventory is full and I often have to do inventory management.

For those of us that are pack rats it does not matter how much inventory Zos gives us. We will just fill it up.

The hoarding is real. I tend to keep things I might use and eventually forget about them. I got the housing chests and filled them up over time. I made my own guild and filled the bank up over time.

Last night I went through my bank and guild bank posting whatever I thought might be worth a bit of gold in guild stores and vendoring/deconning stuff that wouldn't sell. It felt good to have extra space opened up, but I have lots of stuff to go through yet.

My inventory problem is me. I suspect it is the same for most players.

BoP weapons and shields and other things not easy to farm get stored. Transmutation solves so many inventory issues if you let it. Hoard the stones that let you quickly farm up a bunch of bad trait gear and make it what you want. You can keep them in the mail for almost a month on a 30 day campaign reward.

I think we're due for another free ESO+ trial to entice people to spend some of that sweet gift card money after the holidays. Once that happens, I can create a bunch of space collecting those surveys in storage and putting the mats into the craft bag.

Full disclosure: I do sub, so I do have the craft bag, and I have 200 bank spaces. I have 200 inventory spaces.

That being said, here are my means:

    1. I only play one toon. This cuts down on a lot of the "just in case" kind of junk you accumulate.
    2. Unless there are drastic changes, I have my toon's "forever gear." I picked something simple, utilitarian, and not likely to go out of style. I avoid highly niche sets. It's not BIS, but it's the swiss army knife approach to gameplay, and it'll get the job done most of the time. I was able to comfortably gold and transmute everything this way, too.
    3. Unless I have a specific use in mind for a piece of gear, I sell, trade, or decon it.
    4. I store excess furniture in homes that I'm not using. I really like Hall of the Lunar Champion for this, because with the way it's laid out, you can easily categorize your items. Small knickknacks get stowed in various apartments where they're easy to find.
    5. I don't hold on to items that may be worth something "someday." If an item isn't worth much now, I don't see an upward growth trend in potential profit from selling something in a guild store, I consume it, find someone to give it to, or sell it to an NPC merchant.
    6. I have one 30-item storage coffer. (I'm close to affording a 60 slot one with writ vouchers). I store stacks of food and potions in it. On my person I keep two stacks of any potion I use, and one stack of any food I use. I create potions and food in bulk when my coffer begins to empty.
    7. Experience scrolls are consumed pretty much as soon as I get them. Instant research scrolls, if they're of any use to me, are consumed the next time I visit crafting stations. Otherwise, they are destroyed.
    8. I destroy crown drinks and poisons. I prioritize crown meals over crafted food to get them out of my inventory more quickly.

Overall effect: ~130 items stored between bank and coffer, ~45 items in inventory after the post-quest cleanup. I can't say how much furniture is stowed in homes.

Yes, it's a nightmare. And the worst thing is that it has been intended that way, to frustrate players into buying eso+ each month. Instead of making you want to buy something because it's good, or cool or whatever, they decided to go the "I FRUSTRATE YOU" way. I am sure many players have a love/hate relationship with the game.

In most MMO's we only had access to 1 guild. Since ESO gave us 5 guilds. I use 2 of the 5 as personal storage banks, 1000 slots.

I used to have ESO+ and 1 free guild bank (for BOE gear, motifs, style pages), but since cancelling ESO+, I needed a 2nd bank just for craft items.

Remaining 3 guilds, will be PvE, PvP, and Trade.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

The simple solution for ZOS would be to increase the gear lvl cap. Making all of those co 160 sets out of date and under powered. Filled immediately by a nerf to all classes except 1 and all races except 1 those will be both buffed. Then ZOS will then introduce flying combat, mounted combat, and submarines.

Or you know, you can just be reasonable. I've been playing since 2016 and I haven't even maxed out bank space
I only recently upped it from 300 to 400. I have alts, but none of them are mules, nor do they have any bag upgrades. I collect daily stuff and keep it. So what gives?

    Let me break this down:
200 slots from bag per character for a maximum of (200x18) = 3600 slots
5 from the new pet, per character for a maximum of (5x18) = 90 slots
240 from the bank - with eso plus 480
    360 slots from coffers

So with a potential 4530 slots you still have inventory management issues? Then yes, the issue is you hoarding.

I know OP was trying to be tongue and cheek, but honestly... this is it right here, is 100% hoarding issues.

The first few months all gold that I got in game was invested in maxing out bank and bag space. And back then - October 2015, one year before One Tamriel - the game wasn't scaled, so gold was much harder to come by. I created alts relatively quickly, at first to act just as storage, till I got their riding skill up. All of of my currently active characters started out like "bank characters", but in time I got time to level them, and transfer the burden to newer ones. When I finally decided to subscribe, after almost 2 years of playing - late August 2017 - I was able to activate much more characters since the ones holding surplus materials got freed up.

I still have 1 auxiliary for 2 actives. Activating more than what I 2 characters of each class doesn't make much sense, so the 3rd one becomes auxiliary. Those 2 characters cover all 3 roles for PvE and multiple PvP builds, since they have 370+ skill points each and multiple sets of gear. 4 of the 6 auxiliary ones mostly store BoP gear from dungeons or trials I haven't decided if I will use including monster heads in all 3 weights, impenetrable, divines, sometimes infused/sturdy for tank sets, arena weapons in good traits (Maelstrom, Master, Asylum) and a few dozen uncracked 50 crystal geodes that I hold just in case I need to transmute something quickly in the future - normally I use what I get in smaller increments from various other activities - RFTW, trials, pledges, LB rewards etc. This has saved me a lot of time, since when I gear up a new character or build for an existing one I just dive into that inventory and grab what I need, rarely do I need to craft or farm/transmute a new piece, unless it's a newly introduced set.

The 5th holds training gear I use to level new characters - I've been reusing the same sets since 2016 - as well as gold jewelry I get from The Golden and I resell after 6 months or more for maximum profit; ex. I re-sold a full set of gold Transmutation jewelry for 1.5M about 9 months after I had bought them during the Mayhem event. The 6th auxiliary character holds my survey maps since there are only 150 of them in total, and the identical ones stack - by the time I pick them up I have 15-20 stacked of the respective type, so grabbing them is far more efficient than if they were singles.

Bank and chest space is mostly filled with stuff I plan to use or resell later, like seasonal motifs & recipes and master writs; ex. I've been able to resell the Dubious Camoran Throne recipes 2 months before the next Jester's Festival for 130K a piece. Any surplus ornaments or furniture for housing I've just "dumped" in one of the houses I don't use. For example the whole lot of furniture items that dropped during Witches Festival (totems, branches, logs, stacks of hay, pumpkins etc.) I've made into a hut and it looks kinda nice. My goal is to fill all categories of furniture so I get the respective achievements without spending much gold on it. After that much of what's bad will be disposed off in one way or another.

So I have no problems with storage because I don't hold onto junk and I planned well in advance. I don't consider myself a "hoarder" because hoarding implies you literally pick up everything and hold on to it without any clear plans to use it in the future.

I usually decon those since the style item and purple upgrade is usually more valuable than the NPC sale value. Unless it's something valuable such as Spell Stragegist inferno :)

I just purchased Elsweyr after an absence of about a year. After logging into a few characters to reveal the mess of gear, I remember why I stopped playing. While ESO is beautiful in many respects, it is too clunky to make gear grinding much fun. Perhaps I'll take the minimalist approach of the OP... Or more likely I'll just stop playing again.

I just created a guild for myself just for the bank, and of course I need 10 players, so if you want to do the same and create a guild just for the bank, we can exchange the favor. I join yours, you join mine.Contact me. PC EU.

10 alts created during the trial week. I expect that can be done but do not know for certain.

Yes I know, but it's too late.

    The free trial will return.

    Let me break this down:
200 slots from bag per character for a maximum of (200x18) = 3600 slots
    60 from mount per character for a maximum of (60 x 18) = 1080
5 from the new pet, per character for a maximum of (5x18) = 90 slots
240 from the bank - with eso plus 480
    360 slots from coffers
Your math is off, these 60 slots per character are already included in the 200 bag slots from the line above.

It works perfectly fine. 9 alts, actually - no need for the 10th.

Of course the alt accounts will go inactive as soon as the free trial ends, but that does not prevent the guild banks from functioning normally.
As far as the guilds are concerned, members with inactive accounts are still valid members :)

You can also give the guilds wonky names and use that for a tabard, if you want to display a silly message in your nameplate, or a custom pseudo-title :D

    Make siege weapons stack

Yep, they made camps stack but not sieges, even if they are of the same type and repair state. That's clearly inconsistent.

siege weapons have individual health bars--thats why they say they cant stack them. a siege bag though, would be nice

So, I have been thinking about this and I think, unless they add significant extra bag space (i.e. to a single char's bags) and/or bank space, I am going to have to reconsider my options, here.

This 5 extra slots per char thing, via a pet (however cute!), is simply not going to work, for me.

I don't log alts (or want to log alts) very often and so, don't regard storing things on them as an acceptable solution.

What with the crashes and poor server performance, I spend more than enough time staring at loading screens as it is, thanks.

Especially as I consistently pay for ESO+ and I have paid for other stuff along the way (including some storage space), I don't feel I should then allow myself to become permanently stuck in a situation where I am constantly running out of space and having to zone home to decon and sell, every 5 mins.

I should have enough room, by now, without having to sell/decon/destroy/send to alts everything I get the moment I get it.

    I hate storage chests.

Don't look great, don't hold much, fill up your houses, got to try to remember which one you put stuff in...

    They're rubbish.

They should have made a single wall safe, or chest, you could add capacity to, gradually - as opposed to multiple chests which hold very little.

You can rename the coffers,so you know what is in there.

Yeah, I know, but unless you don't ever have more than one trunk with, say, motifs in it, you still have to try to remember which motif is in which motif trunk and where that trunk is, in that house and you still have to fill your houses with less than beautiful trunks and travel to your houses to check them.

IMO this is a player issue and not a game issue. ESO gives you lots of options to increase storage space to a reasonable degree. If you want an unreasonable amount of storage, that's on you.

In an effort to make this a positive post, some tips to make inventory management easier in ESO.

    1. Max out the number of available characters you have access to from the base game or care to buy. Dedicate some of these as mules towards specialized purposes. For example, one holds monster sets, one holds mats, one holds world drops that are upgraded to gold, weapons, jewelry get preference. If you insist on actually -playing- a large number of characters such that they are always full of their own stuff, that's your choice, not a game failing. On the mules, max mount bags before speed and stamina. You don't have to max their personal bags to the most expensive degree, but do upgrade them as able. Spend gold on upgrading inventory before spending it on anything else. You almost never need a gold ring from the golden vendor as much as you will need more space.

    2. Never store anything you can buy cheaply off a vendor or guild trader when you need it, and especially never store anything the game gives you for free just for playing. The former include lockpicks, basic trait materials, etc. The latter include most provisioning mats, recipes, soul shards, treasure maps, basic pots, basic food and a whole host of other things.

    3. Maybe most importantly, minimize "might and could," "hope and pray" items in a game you might not even be playing when and IF the hopes and prayers materialize in the game. "That could get buffed, I may use that on a character one day, if I do another crafter one day those scrolls could come in handy, if I ever wanted to do that build, this very NICHE set could come in handy." You get the idea. If an item isn't expensively upgraded, and you don't have plans to use it on a character NOW, especially if it could be reobtained easily, decon.

    4. Farm ALL the writ/crown chests, that's 360 extra slots. Don't have time to farm whatever is necessary to get those? but do have time to sort and store a bunch of stuff you aren't using and hoping and praying to use one day? No sympathy.

    5. Delete all nonstackable stuff like siege equipment, furnishings you aren't using that aren't rare or very pricey. You can buy all but the few pricey ones dirt cheap off guild traders or PvP vendors as you need them.

    6. For mats and consumable crafted items you use, don't store more than one stack (other than basic mats like wood/leather/iron). When you need another, make -one- more stack. If you have mats that could be turned into something you will use -soon- that takes up less space, do that.

    7. Don't store things like costumes/disguises that take up space unless you regularly use them. The game will end up giving you plenty of costumes that take up no inventory.

    8. If you are storing things that may be valuable but you aren't sure, go to the Tamriel Trade Center site and find out. If they turn out not to be very valuable, ditch.

Much more, that's enough, will wager if people having inventory problems did these things, other than those trying to run a writ assembly line without ESO+, storage problems would disappear. There's nothing wrong with being a hoarder in games, but being a hoarder and then blaming the game for that is silly.

If you refuse to use mules or alternate accounts then I dont know what to tell you. There are two types of progression styles in most MMOs. Vertical and horizontal. Vertical progression mostly involves ever increasing lvl caps and stat caps on gear requiring grinding new mats and new lvls gear. Horizontal is about keeping gear lvls flat after a certain point but instead increasing the gear options. Vertical is a grind fest for lvls and horizontal is a grind fest for gear. And horizontal is what eso has. Your ALWAYs going to have inventory issues with horizontal progression model and it's up to the player to decide whet to keep and what to trash. Especially with the bound system.

But like I said earlier Zos could go back to vertical progression and increase the gear lvl cap. And then all your gear would be outdated and you can trash it all and start over. Problem solved.

^ It's not really about gear, with me - I've pretty much of given up on all that.

It's more about furnishings, motifs, crafting stuff (alchemy potions etc.), fragments of this and that and just general stuff piling up.
