In light of today's events (or lack of), I figured I'd go back to my first exposure to ESO to see what I thought now. They did a great job advertising this game, that's all I'm saying.

Im still living it. 700 hours so far, cp600 or something, still tons of content. The event that got me by surprise was IC, where i fell in love with the sewers and had groups going 20v20 at molag. That was amazing. Yeah servers are in a hilarious state, but i still smell the nirnroot and stray away from people who like to complain more than actually play or just leave.

I loved how difficult the game was before one tamriel. I loved how smooth 100v100v100 battles were before one tamriel. I loved everything before one tamriel. I mean it's still good and there were issues too back then but it definitely didn't feel as broken as it does today.

The game was full of danger. You could die overland and a delve was a delve. Story was strict instanced.
78 days on my main played. Still playing but something is missing.

I honestly don't think things were better balanced five years ago, but they're not well balanced now either. There may have been some point which I would have considered a "sweet spot" some time between 2015 and 2018 while I was away, but I really wouldn't know. Before I quit, I had to seek out the easiest content to be able to enjoy it. Now I have to artificially challenge myself by soloing group content. I have a distinct feeling that there ought to be a middle ground somewhere.

My initial experience with ESO was back in beta. It was buggy. Like, /reloadui every 30 minutes because quest objectives didn't work, buggy.

Things have improved significantly since then 😁

I think game was in a relatively good spot before the whole audit started, with 180 degrees turnarounds between each patch on dots, cost increase and all the nonsense we've seen in the past 6 months

Was a huge world full of uncertainty and adventure. You had to unlock zones and they were dangerous to go to.

My can literally punch any delve and mob now to death without any armour on lol it’s ridiculously easy and there is no penalty of death. You just simply respawn there.

ESO is just way way too easy on the exploration side.

Pre Tamriel one I died. A lot. It was difficult, you had to gain strength before venturing further.

Remember my first dolmen. Wondering what the structure on ground was. As it hit down and I made my way into the fight, it was as exciting as the first dragon in Skyrim.
The recognition of places from Oblivion. One felt familiar with the surroundings.

If I was queen of everything, I would remove the Tamriel one..

I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed but I was super excited to begin exploring. My first character was my faithful darkelf dragonknight.

I found my way quicker than most because I had a few buddies who had played for a bit who showed me the ropes. They didn't reveal everything i should of known but enough to get me off on the right start. Sadly, they both no longer play.

I liked combat a lot better in the initial release.

    Everything else was worse...

    - Getting to a quest boss that is dead and not re-spawning was loads of fun
    - Not being able to do the Banished Cells Quest because first talk sequence wouldn't execute was a blast
    - Anyone else remember the line of naked jumpers trying to light the brazier in Coldharbour? Good times...
    Playing since beta...

I remember login into bèta. To experience the Altmer culture on Auridon..i was in awe.Figuring out the crafting system. Oh and my first dungeon at level 15 was a disaster. I think it took me a year to dare to enter a dungeon again.

At first, I had no idea how everything worked. I was really bad for a lonnnnnng time. I think it was pvp that really got me on my toes.

Taking a break for 2 years set me behind enough with all the sets that it brings back a bit of that overwhelming feeling.

    I'm still bad, though.

I still have that special feeling about the game, I knew at launch it would be my main MMO home for the long term and so it has proved to be - and continues to be. Nothing has happened with the game in the past 5 years or so that impacts negatively on my enjoyment of it, and the amount of content now is massive so there's still stuff I haven't seen.

well yeah, that was before OT update. Can't say game was super difficult, but sure some encounters was challenging. Empty cities after vet level though.

ESO first impression actually was a bit better than Skyrim back in 2011 (11/11).

My first feeling was I really disliked the game. Played it for a week then quit. 6 months later I gave it another go. That was 3 years ago. Been playing ever since. But since Nerfmire, my enthusiasm has taken a serious dive. Their vision of a new combat system is right on par with their ability to design a dungeon finder that works.

Lag free Cyrodiil, back in beta and early launch, before they start messing it up. Now its not even quarter of that population cap, torchbugs and most animals was removed and it still works worse now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64bBvOKxnVE

They will. It might be 10 years from now, but they'll eventually "improve" it to the point that it loses it's essence and starts to suck.

Just enjoy it while you can.

Yes, remember it was lots of quests who did not work.

But the world was new, yes it was also much harder but to some part it was because none had gear or could really play.
Dorsia was hard but did not had problem with harvesters later as I know AoE killed the balls.

    And yes miss old cyrodil.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

My initial feeling was not a good one.

When I made it out of the prison and landed in Daggerfalls, I was amazed that all the characters were RL players. Then a few minutes later ( when I was trying to figure how to use my keyboard to move and fight ) I hit a guard. The guard would not leave me alone, he wanted gold I did not have and kept killing me. I told my friend that I would never play again, and she gave me some gold to pay my bounty. However, my bounty went up and the guard kept killing me. I ended up logging out and not expecting to ever play gain.

That was in 2014 :) and i'm still here.
