Seems like we’re getting closer and closer to the full blown Pay-to-Win line. I would quit the game if the game crosses the line.

Nah, you would not, because a) you would miss out on login REWARDs and b) you would have hard time defining the line that has not been crossed already, and you are still here.

Gear that's better than what drops, and that can only be gotten for cash (and not crown-gifted)?

I enjoy the core gameplay, so I would probably play casually. I probably wouldn't spend as much money on it as I do now. The irony here being that P2W cash shops are so overly restrictive and greedy it becomes impossible to just get lost in the gameplay, it's even harder to want to support it like I do now.

You can't buy any gear with crowns. The only equippable gear that's ever been in the crown store are Broom, Bucket, and Rings of Mara.

I don’t even think ESO could go P2W. The crown store has utility items, yes. But it’s nothing that you can’t get in game. Just things to expedite things in-game or consumable items that lesser than crafted ones. And mostly cosmetics. Or just things you can buy right away instead of using gold/farming for them, mainly motifs. They aren’t some OP gear or ability booster or whatever P2W games actually have.

The only aspect where paying for a direct advantage actually matters is PvP, and i already lose enough in there. I wouldnt be able to tell the difference between skill, gear, or paid regardless.

@WuffyCerulei, that's the concern. The idea of, "here's a pet that comes with an X% damage bonus," or "Y% mitigation bonus."

Before the Boar hit the Crown Store, I would have called that idea absurd, but, given the current climate, I'm a little more circumspect.

It depends on how it impacts pve because I personally don't do pvp much at all. I'd be mad on principle about pvp but not enough to quit.

I've been playing a p2w MMO game. Actually, I won...nothing. Pay to win in fact is just pay to play slighltly more comfortably. In terms of combat nothing really helps to win in PVE as there's nothing to win. It works only for PVP and only in case... say, you can buy a permanent Volendrung for crowns. Will this happen in ESO? Don't thinks so.

If it's something I thought was actually pay to win then yes. 5 inventory slots per character is pretty trivial but with that and the skill lines, skyshards etc. in the crown store I am concerned about the direction the game is going.

There's nothing currently which bothers me that much, but if it ever gets to the point where I feel like my options are to pay up or be left at a distinct disadvantage I'm far more likely to stop playing that take either of those options.

I don't see any hint of them considering a p2w model and as far as pve how would that work? what they make it harder so you would have to buy gear that would counter it? Be realistic that makes no sense if anything they've been making the game easier like with battle leveling or whatever it is they call it that makes my newer toons somehow stronger than my lvl 50's so they can do any pve content at their level its making the game more accessible to newer players.

I don't play "competitively", not in PVP much, don't do trials. So unless this P2W somehow makes other players quest better or admire the scenery in a winning way I am not sure how it would effect me. Still, generally I wouldn't see it as good move by ZOS.

I always planned to leave / go dormant once the story runs out.
It'd be really hard to make story content "pay to win", but theoretically I suppose it's possible. Like LOA1 and LOA2 where the story was locked behind harder and harder fights. Even there you had the option of slowly grinding your way up, but I won't grind that long.

    I'd certainly quit.
But currently, there is - by far - no P2W.
The purchasable stuff (and ESO+) makes your gaming experience nicer, but there certainly is no need to use the Crown Store.
And then, how do you "win" an open end game? Having "won", i.e. done and collected everything - wouldn't that be boring?

Actually, that's a good point - it would depend on what the "pay 2 win" was, and what aspects of the game it effected. For those of us just bouncing around the world doing whatever happens to be interesting that day, without any care about "beating" other players? It likely wouldn't make any difference.

(Just like in the less-awful-pvp f2p/p2w games I've tried in the past. It really only matters in games with open world and/or required pvp. Or games that require 600 years of grinding to gain one level. But we're already leveled up in this game, and I've got so many un-used XP scrolls stashed in my bank that I could never use them all.)
