[Private Worlds] Does this have potential in ESO?

F76 is a bit of a disaster that they're trying to salvage, and bless them for trying, but like you'll even get eight people playing on the same server in a meaningful way at the same time, let alone eight friends.

ESO wouldn't work at all with private worlds imo, because it takes a huge amount of the fun and purpose out of it. I'm all for improving the grouping system so that you can search for, e.g. DLC only dungeons. But if you try to turn it into a game with "private" servers, then it's not an MMO.

As I'm still pretty low level, I sometimes like hanging around a likely looking wb or dolmen for a few minutes, hoping someone more competent turns up. Did that today, saw someone else waiting, so charged in, and they did too. Turned out we were both pretty low level, as it took several minutes between us to grind that boss down, but neither of us gave up and it was awesome! That would never have happened in a private world situation.

Plus I love the guild system, and that would lose a lot if everyone was just arranging private groups.

    why hasn't this been locked?
It has nothing to do with ESO.

    Alas, poor Bethesda.

There will never be a TES6, not as long as this game continues to make money. It's the reason I was in despair when an Elder Scrolls MMO was first announced, because BGS would obviously never make the next chapter single-player title to compete with another in-house studio's online cash cow. Same as what happened to the KOTOR franchise; SWTOR is the entire reason there will never be a KOTOR 3.

Until ESO seriously tanks, there won't be another single-player TES. :disappointed:

The next TES is already in development, schedules for release sometime after Starfield.

Neither of those games have release dates, and have been promised for a long time. You know, like so much stuff promised by BGS and Todd Howard to string the community along. Don't hold your breath. Poor Grandma Shirley...

They don't have release dates because they are still early on in development. Release dates don't come until you can be reasonably certain you can put out a finished product. Or at least a product that's close enough to finished that people will pay money for it. Or in Bethesda's case of late, something that takes up at least 60GBs of hard drive space and maybe does something when you run it.

I'm pretty confident that there will be a TES6. But given the "success" of Fallout 76, which leaves me deeply concerned about the future of the entire Fallout franchise, as well as the fact that they put out an Elder Scrolls mobile game, I really don't have a lot of faith at this point that TES6 is going to be something I actually want.

Personally, I see the lack of success of FO76 as a good thing for the Fallout & TES series - it reduces the odds of them trying to crowbar online & MP into their next games.

(And ES:Blades is a pretty generic repetitive grinder. It's no threat to the PC games, either. I played it a bit, it really doesn't have much to it except for nice mobile graphics.)

Perhaps have a trust system in place like FFXIV. (The trust system let's you pick 3 NPC party members to do dungeons with. The AI is pretty amazing, too. Often far superior to pugs. It's almost too good.)

Oh you mean Adventurer squadrons when you join one of the Companies?
They are "too good" because (last time I played) they cheat. When there's level sync for the dungeon, they can actually use skills that are ABOVE the level cap.
And yeah, the AI is actually pretty decent. Everyone is doing exactly their role. The tanks even know to face the boss away from the party.

What they also have for pushing through dungeons that are locking story progress is unsynced runs. No level capping so you can one-shot everything. Sometimes people use it to farm for specific furnishing mats.
    Kel wrote: »
And perhaps they can tune Cyrodiil to something of a solo quest experience...something like the system in San Andreas gang wars, where you take over a neighborhood (keep) and often have to defend it from rival NPC gangs.(other factions)

It isn't that hard to do. Just have NPC alliance fortresses continually send out sorties, and a heuristic for when to increase the frequency or size of those sorties. Once in a while, send out a boss. Then it'd be like Demigod style games https://store.steampowered.com/app/202710/Demigod/.

In any case I actually see relevance in private overland instances because more and more people seem to be talking about doing things in smaller groups or solo. People posting vet dungeon solo runs -- even finding ways to workaround group-required boss mechanics. And people griping / acting surprised when a world boss needs a big squad to actually take down.
I mean, are we really complaining about Fire Monk in what is supposedly an MMO? Bringing more people isn't valid here apparently. It "must" be doable with a small team?

And just like FO76 apparently, in ESO you can't get your chance to small-group challenge-yourself something like a Dragon WITHOUT a private instance. No one's gonna let you.
Just as no one's gonna be bothered to take turns at a quest boss in a public instance. How many times has a mob of other players, sometimes not even on the quest, killed the boss for you and completed your quest?

Guess the OP hasn't noticed the tidal wave of criticism that is happening for Fallout 76, with Fallout 1st an even bigger disaster.

I personally would love that because I feel like the quests and the entirety of the game becomes less important since there are other players that could "take care of it".

Yes as long as they can run on their own servers, and don't clog our even more.
however would be nice that quest instances would be all made solo instances at least.

I'm just throwing out the concept -- the exact implementation doesn't have to be the same.
So any quests that happen inside an instance / where you have to area transition, I definitely feel there's room to make them private like the current Craglorn delves.
Many quests take place in the overland, though, hence I think there's some usefulness of even overland instances being private. But they've done phased areas before inside overland zones, so maybe for overland quests something like that could be done to protect quest experiences.

As for popular world bosses, I'd still like to see some way to be able to engage them on your own terms instead of competing with 20 people. Suppose you just wanted to try it with 8 or even 4. There's no way you can do that at the moment.

This. It really makes no sense to take an idea from such a huge failure.

Besides that, ESO is an MMORPG whereas 76 is just a multiplayer and there is a huge difference.

I think it's clear that the OP does not want to play Fallout. They are simply asking if a scheme like the one being proposed there could work on this game. I'd personally LOVE to see this game offer private servers IN ADDITION TO the game as it is now. I'd also be happy to see delves become private instances for groups and even single players. It'd take a LOT of the current aggravation out of them if we could have this. Running up to a delve and, at the entrance, being able to choose between public, group and single player would be fantastic honestly. I just very much doubt that Zo$ has the know-how OR the ambition to make it happen.

It's not a new idea and it would solve a lot of issues:
    - Don't want haters trolling your roleplay? Private Instance.
    - Don't want cheaters in your Cyrodiil? Private Cyrodiil and invite only players or guilds who can be accountable.
    - Delve or public dungeon too easy because of drive-by helpers? Private Instance.
    - Tired of seeing a lore-breaking circus of gaudily dressed players in town all the time? Private Instance.

It's not a new idea even on ESO:
