No one should have a customized title as it is harassing or fooling people around

I believe there is a name for software that is added to other people's computers without their knowledge and which benefits a third party: malware.

Right because willingly downloading and installing an add-on called CUSTOM TITLES totally makes it malware.

@nordmarian Imagine actually bringing to the attention of ZOS that they should monetize custom titles, they totally need to paywall another feature. Are you actually dense or just trolling?

The majority of the playerbase doesn't even notice the custom titles anyway, since it's tied to one specific addon. If that bothers you so much then just don't install it, jfc.

From previous posts, people were saying that even if you didn't have that specific add-on you might still see the custom title because other add-ons had "features" that incorporated the functionality to render those custom titles. I cannot personally verify this, but if this is the case then uninstalling that specific add-on will not fix the issue.

My understanding is that it’s a file included in some commonly used libraries and can be manually deleted or another add-on installed which disables it.

@Heatnix90 I'm simply saying that it might be better if players could obtain custom titles from zos themselves and not through third parties.

If a third party is an addon developper and this person shows up in public it is very easily to influence people around to join his or her group. Also just as easy they can solely abuse of power by splitting people from the chance of raiding together. It wasn't what happened with me and my friend but it was just as close. Abuse of power and influence.
Except the people responsible for the Custom Titles addons are pretty neutral wrt/ influence.

That's the risk of running addons, sometimes the files are tied to a necessary LUA library for many popular addons. If you don't want it, then don't run addons, ez.

The fact that this addon is not wanted by most people and has to be backdoored into people’s installations is a very good indicator that it shouldn’t exist. Users do not opt in to it. They are not notified of it. It is a vile practice that is really indefensible. If users really want it, sure, let them install it. But clearly they do not, which is why it is hidden.

Everyone should have the same chance to parade their not actually funny/clever title.

It's hilarious that you think there are games masters :D

It's fine as it is, leave it alone.

A game master helped me out once when my stamdk was bugged and couldn't advance in the soul magic skill tree, ps4 eu about 3 years ago maybe.

Addons have a major impact on performance. That alone is reason enough that additional addons should not be slipped into people’s computers, hidden inside a completely unrelated addon.

depnds on the addon if it has impact to performance - as i know interface (e.g. minimaps) addons have a high impact - but addons like chaning 1-3words (for costume titles) dont have a impact

That is compete BS. Having to have that database in memory is definitely a performance factor.

Performance impact is minimal compared to feature-heavy (i.e. UI) addons.

No one has a gun to your head demanding that you run addons. Again, that's the give-and-take of playing a game with third-party addons, sometimes addon authors have to jury-rig stuff together so it doesn't break completely, which usually means having to include necessary libraries/addon features from other authors as part of their own addons. If you're so averse to seeing this (which btw, is not a "vile practice" at all lmao) then the solution is simple: don't use third-party addons.

Advertised, documented or not, it is a vile practice to sneak an unwanted add-on with others so you the add-on user will get yourself known around. If it is just a few KB of data or few hundreds of MB it does matter and it falls into same category as bloatware malware whatever, harmless or not.
It does cause a performance issue. It does use internet bandwidth, storage space, and increase load times and performance on the server. Keep in mind that probably 90% of the addon users doesn't even know about its existance nor know or are willing to disable it.

I simply stated why this addon is such a problem and why it affected me and probably others in the posts above.

All addons are third-party. You are basically telling people "if you don't want my malware, stop using addons altogether".

And yes, installing code on computers of other people without their knowledge, with functionality they did not want or consent to, is a vile practice.
