PS5 Announced, what will happen with eso?

Will the game just be backwards compatible and be on ps4 and ps5 or will ps5 have its own server? I'd imagine if its backwards compatible then most if not all of the issues ps4 has with the game will be shared with ps5?

If it's not, maybe that'll be the push to make ZOS allow transferring accounts to PC.

That’s the very reason i built a PC and passed on the PS4 and Xbox ONE, i knew this day would come.

That's still a year away, assuming everyone will still be playing in a year. I know I don't have much left in me after the bi polar changes to the game, after 4 years invested. Not to mention, that the first year of new consoles are usually buggy.

We’ll likely get Elder Scrolls 6 shortly after PS5 release by which time this game will be insignificant.

Given Starfield is before TES6... and that hasn't been announced yet, that means we won't see TES6 before 2021 at the earliest. Judging by the gaps between Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and FO4, it seems likely we'll see Starfield in 2020 or 2021, and TES6 in 2023 or 2024.

I suspect they'll migrate the PS4 servers to PS5, and put the PS4 build on maintenance mode.

Couldn't they just keep everyone on the same server? Just like having a better PC than somebody else or a PS4 vs PS4 pro.

depends if they want to keep the game running like ass or not. I have a ps4 pro and its awful, barely any difference to the base console. where as if they had new servers just for ps5 itd run more like PC does.

As far as I can tell, PS5 is supoused to have backward compatibilty with PS4. So... probably nothing will change. The differnce will be that the game (obviously) will work better on PS5. And that brings us to another problem: Transition time.

    Since consoles and their overall
performance kinda dictates how the games look like, and what are their minimal / recomened system requirements it kinda caps / bottlenecks what is expected from gaming PCs. It is good, because if you have a decent PC, you know that you wont have to upgrade / buy new one for at least 5 - 7 years or so.

But transition time means that suddenly those "system requirements" will go up. It happens every time we have a "next gen" consoloes. Developers suddenly become lazy and game optimalisation is poop since (as mentioned above) system requirements go up. It might even be something critical, like next directx so the game wont even boot. Eso already had this kind of issues in the past. 1st it required dx 9, then dx10 and now it is dx11.

The console is backwards compatible. Hardware and servers are two different things. The only reason each platform is separate or has their own server is because there isn’t crossplay. If there was crossplay we would all connect to the same server. It would be no different than the millions of different PCs that have connected to them over the years.

Don’t worry PS5 users you will still be able to connect to the terrible performing servers.

Backwards compatibility is a foregone conclusion... what’s interesting to me is how enhanced (if it all) the game will be on ps5 and the next xbox. It would seem that it will easily run at 60 fps, will they “allow” the new console owners to play at 60 vs the old consoles playing at 30 FPS on the same “mega server”? Having a ps4 pro or Xbox one x now is a slight advantage, with the new systems it could become a significant advantage.

What console needs is a graphics slider or something. Or at least the game needs an auto quality reduction when entering PvP. I have a crazy PC rig and I still have nearly everything turned off that has a toggle and all the sliders at or below my recommended spec. I can barley hold 60FPS at certain times in PvP. A console will never be able to do it not even the next gen IMO.

i think both new consoles are supposed to have backw.compatibility... probably also easier since consoles become more and more like pc's anyway...

Depends more on if sony is going to keep backwards compatibility in mind or not for the PS5.
There is very little ZOS can do if sony decides to completely rebugger the framework of the platform. You cant completely rewrite a game at this stage for a platform change.

Your account is tied to your psn wich would be the same on ps5
What mmo like dcuo and ff14(not a 100%sure for this one) did at the time of ps4 arrival is that you just had to use the ps4 version to play on ps4 sinnce both were on the same server and a few years later cut the acces from the previous gen since the ps3 was holding back the others

We heard a lot that the ps4 disc will work on ps5 so if its true zos do it right we will just have to log in on ps5 to continu our adventure in tamriel

A.) PS5 is backwards compatible and/ or even enhances older titles based on what we know (entirely new desktop CPU architecture).
B.) ESO was one of the first titles on either iterative console, so it’s not unreasonable to expect ZOS to duplicate that success.
C.) Game will likely transition generations as did DCUO and FFXIV with support for older consoles being terminated at some point.

As the console rep, I have brought all such recent news on the next generation consoles and asked console-specific questions to the development team (not that they were necessarily unaware of any of this info, and they could, in fact, be more knowledgeable about next-gen hardware than any of us). And no, I cannot discuss their responses.

Very much looking forward to 2020!

We have the same kind of servers what are you on about? The *** frame rate etc is because of our hardware, if you have a *** PC it will run like *** too. PC have the exact same server issues as console they have better performance because of their hardware specs.

    THIS ^^^ <3

I would hate to start over but if console ESO falls out due to the new PS4 i'll be back on my grind but in a new platform on PC NA.

MS will announce something soon too I'm sure. ZOS has a plan I'm sure of it...at least I hope so.

I kinda find it hard to believe they would even make another ES game rather than just release some huge ESO campaign instead. This game is on par, and beyond, anything they've done like Oblivion and Skyrim IMO. I play this as single player only having loved Daggerfall, Oblivion, and Skyrim and this is the best single player experience of all so far. Second being Oblivion, the only game I've ever gotten 100% achievements on in any game.

Yes and no. They could do simultaneous dev on both platforms, but I doubt they will. One of the biggest problems for the devs is the aging console hardware. The PS4 was never top of the line, and it's now six years old. Also, remember, the game is certified to run on non-upgraded versions of the hardware. So, while they could, theoretically turn out content for the PS4 and PS5, the instant the XBox 4 (whatever Microsoft decides to brand it) drops, that's going to be the end of XB1 and PS4 dev.

The PS5 will play the current ESO game just fine only reason some coding will change is to take advantage of the PS5 upgraded memory and graphics. This is because the PS went to a PC architecture. So there is no difference to upgrading to a PS5 than there is adding more ram and a faster processor and better graphics card in a PC.
Servers don't have to be changed, they aren't PS4s lmao.

I would expect better graphics and load speeds due to hardware upgrades, but otherwise it’ll be the same. If you don’t care about graphics then slam an ssd in your box already and forget about t for a few years because it seems like that’s one of the most talked about features in the PS5 (as if you couldn’t already get one or something).

All I see so far is a lot of hype without giving any worthwhile technical info besides “it has an ssd”. Navi gpu? Cool, what are the specs? What’s the pc equivalent? How much RAM? Give those details and then we’ll talk.

Bethesda and ZOS are separate development teams. It's confirmed we're getting TES6- it's just a question of when. And in terms of fans of TES, ESO players are a small percentage. Most people just want TES6. (A lot of people actually blame ESO for the reason why TES6 isn't out yet, even though they're separate teams, and won't play ESO because of it)

I would agree that we'll see TES6 after the next gen of consoles. Todd Howard wants the games to be played for ten years. Waiting for them to be on the next gen of consoles, and relatively shortly after they come out, would maximize the time people play the game before it gets outdated.

Its a different development team that does ESO and the single player TES games. And a different core audience of gamers who like MMORPGs and Single player RPGs.

After the success of Skyrim, which is still getting rereleases, there will definitely be a TES 6.

Fairly certain the SSDs in PS5 and Xbox Next are going to be M2 drives, which are a substantial improvement over standard laptop-sized SSDs. The hardware is also the biggest leap—supposedly—since the PSX era > PS2. Pretty substantial improvements all around if ZOS takes advantage of the hardware.

you will bring all your game library to PS5. Not sure about any graphics or FPS improvement, will depend on devs.
