Current battleground mechanics are unfairly biased against long term players. Waiting 15-30 minutes per match for a paltry ap reward is not sufficient.
Suggestion: for every 5 minutes spent waiting in queue, your next battleground earns 15% more AP. This can be disabled for 4 man premades. If this is too difficult to code, a baseline buff to ap/gold rewards should be considered.

for every 5 minutes waiting, u get 10% more.
if joining as a group (don't care 2, 3, or 4), u don't get the buff.

As others have said, adding new, spicy sets to the rewards would definitely be enticing.
Might be unpopular, but making some of the (best) rewards bind-on-pickup (like the PvE arenas) could also be interesting so that you couldn't just buy them off of the guild store for relative peanuts and would actually have to earn them.
But also splitting up queuing formats so that premade groups could get a proper challenge against other premade groups rather than simply preying upon uncoordinated randoms.
