How useful is gold gear vs purple gear?

Kahmel
Kahmel
I'm all done with getting everything I need for my magblade to be the best it can be excluding CP but I only do BGs anyway. The only thing I can do to improve is to upgrade my gear to gold (weapons are already gold) I'm currently using all purple Bright-Throat's Boast + Shacklebreaker + Bloodspawn with impen and 3 tri-stat glyphs. I'm wondering when I upgrade them to gold will I notice any significant change?

Weapons make a big difference, you should always get them gold.

Armour and jewellery not as much difference. You'll get a bonus of course, but you'll gain more from practice and growing player skill than those stat boosts will give.

Weapons are the most important as the other said. Some sets even do not improve their 5th bonus so they are perfectly fine as purple.
    Because I can!

    Hmm,
    I will said.
Weapon mainbar and manhand, and enchant on jewelry.
You can got bloodthirsty on purple. Is 3% less on 3 jewel.

Same with trait. Running with 1 bad trait is not that bad on armor. (running with 7 yes)
    Etc etc.
I can get 35k (and some can go higher) on stamDK (selfbuff)using only Briarheart and Hunding + 2 agility on rotation from Elsweyr at this patch...

    1568841927-ddddd.jpg

With all weapon gold. But the 3k more, come with the dagger mainhand Nirn

    1568051105-test-stuff-noob.jpg

So getting all your gear up is "useless" unless you wanna do leaderboard.
Only weapon + enchant on jewelry and weapon need to be gold. Other can stay on purple.
Perhaps infused on Jewelry will be greater and excetion on this rule.
But i repeat, unless you wanna do leaderboard.

And yes, some briarheart armor are yellow, just cause don't wanna buy it again.
That cost me 1 bow and 1 dagger for this test

And before some come say, hmpf only 35k hmpf. Yes with bad gear. I'm on ~88k (and yes you can go higher, it's sure but i don't care) on 21M so STFU <3
So, as you want to play PvP. it will be not so significant change.
It will only if you're a god monster vs another god monster with all yellow.
That mean, you need to be the 0.5%top player vs a 0.4% top player

You have a solid set up that should stand the test of time.

But as a general rule I'd tend to hold off golding anything until these changes with the new DLC are finalized.

At this point anything and everything could change.

Main hand weapons followed by big armor pieces (chest, head, legs, heavy before medium before light for max resistances).

This. Unless you are a really great player the difference outside of weapons is pretty minimal in both set bonus and resistance.

Even the difference between gold and purple enchants on large armor pieces pretty small. So for the average player it is not worth the investment. Of course if you are pushing content and especially in a competitive group golding out gear become important. But then you are one of stronger players that would benefit more from the difference.
    Really, idk

Gold weapons - very important, that's a lot of extra weapon/spell damage.

Gold jewelry - decent stat increase, but very expensive. OK choice if you have plenty of upgrade mats (or gold) to burn.

Gold armor - minor difference, only worthwhile for bragging rights or if you have more gold upgrade mats than you know what to do with.

Enchants - again, not much difference between purple and gold - but Kuta is fairly cheap (esp. compared to Hakeijo!), so you might as well use all gold enchants anyway.

If you are dying a lot in PvP with gold weapons and purple jewelry & armor - then it's either a L2P issue, or a build issue.

Gold weapons for sure. Jewelry can be made gold if it will benefit from it, like infused or maybe even bloodthirsty and protective but it’s not as important as weapons being gold, purple will still get the job done. Armor being purple is 100% fine. I would also use gold enchants on everything as it does add up and it’s cheap anyways, cheaper than all the other mat options I believe, so why not?

    Assuming CP 160, of course.

Even then I've been known to skimp on sets I was just trying out, especially for tanking or for DW offhand.

But yeah -- weapons in builds where you care about your damage or healing output should be gold.

    That's a given, really.
Unless you are twinking, noone would bother golding out any below-CP160 gear, because it would rapidly get outlevelled anyway.
A few levels later, and all the extra benefit from gold quality is already gone.

Weapons are worth upgrading fully because you gain a lot of weapon & spell damage from doing so in addition to set bonuses. Armor pieces and jewelry give far less stats when fully upgraded to gold, compared to purple. The only exception is jewelry in Bloodthirsty or Infused trait with spell/weapon damage glyphs, since damage bonus from those traits scales up quite a lot from purple to gold. If you are short on upgrade materials or gold to purchase them I recommend you only do weapons. For jewelry upgrading is an order of magnitude more expensive, so leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil are much better IMO.
    This!

If / when Bright-Throat jewelry is on sale from the Golden, buy it! In addition to Infused and Bloodthirsty, I would also gold out Swift jewelry on a magblade eventually. I've done it on my main, a melee magblade, but I specialise in speed. For me it was worth it.

Golding gear, well, it can make a difference to some crazy niche builds. You can make a build with Well-Fitted and stamina cost reduction that allows for near infinite dodge rolls and very high sprint sustain. Might suit a scroll runner. On the other hand, if you wanted to push down block-cost to the absolute minimum, I could also see an all Sturdy outfit golded out. Once you push dodge roll, sprint or block-cost down by all possible means (CP, jewelry enchants, sets like Battlefield Acrobat and Alteration Mastery), those last few percentage points can make a surprising difference. Such builds are mostly very trolly, though, and not all that useful. I never gold out gear.

Only gold your weapons, its not worth doing anything else with the rate that zos changes things. Instead save your gold/ mats for different sets when things change

Yeah i echo-recommend weapons and traited jewelry and some monster helm sets. Biggest difference in personal performance was golding a nirnhorned weapon for the first time.

Some sets that you know are good and prolly wont change, like hundings rage or something, would be worthwhile to gold as well.

(Last week i put on a full gold gear set up, only to discover this was no real in-game achievement).

The increase is about the same magnitude regardless of set from one quality to the next, you can check the toll tip difference by editing your build in. UESP build editor: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:EsoBuildEditor
The only exceptions are % effects which generally are the same regardless of set piece quality.

    Always gold weapons.

Never gold sets where the last bonus does not change, like Slimecraw or Queen's Elegance.

General rule is to always upgrade weapons to gold as that increases your stats considerably but you will do just as well with purple gear than with gold gear which isn't weapon related.

If my calculation was correct its about +50 damage points with all three jeweleries infused. Doesn't seem to be that much to me.

Yes, the difference is between 50-75, depending on multipliers, set bonuses etc. It is slightly more important on no-CP since you can't stack that many resources to improve your overall "power budget". But for people who want to min-max to the last decimal point it may be worth it.

Like most people, I have loads of gold gear.

When it comes down to it, the best gear to make legendary would had been Level 4 training gear. And maybe level 35 or 40 training gear.

Or possibly if you want to keep your characters under max level to wreak havoc on the under 50 Campaigns and BG’s. Then possibly level 10 legendary Impen would make you a rockstar for a short while.
