What is a "bleed"

From the 5.2.0 patch notes...
Cutting Dive (morph): This morph no longer reduces the cost of the ability beyond the standard Stamina cost reduction. It now applies a Bleed to the target for 7 seconds if they are Off Balance, which can stack up to 7 times.
Growing Swarm (morph): This morph has been redesigned into a Stamina-based ability that deals Bleed Damage.
Werewolf Berserker (morph): Decreased the damage per tick of the bleed applied from this morph by approximately 48%.
...but in U23 the "bleed" mechanic was removed from the game, with all such abilities converted to ordinary Physical DoTs. I'd assume that's what is meant here, but it's strange that the patch notes would continue to reference obsolete mechanics.

Bleed as damage type was never removed. It just loss the thing that makes it unique. Bleed = physical DoT

There's also sets that modify "bleeds," meaning the term needs to remain or change those sets as well

At this point, it's a flavor of stamina dot. Like Magic has Flame, Frost, Shock, and non-elemental, Stamina has Bleeds, Disease, Poison, and Physical (non-typed).

Stam soul trap applies a bleed?

Nope. So far what I can put together its bleed if it behaves like you drank jug of razors and not bleed if its magical by nature, something from outside or something they forgot to change to bleed.

In u22 All bleeds was ignoring resistance.. U23 they buffed them but they was not ignoring resistance anymore. U24 they nerf them more than the tooltip was in u22 but they still not ignoring resistance! So next patch if nothing change they are completely useless.

Bleed is just a name ,its got nothing extra attachted to it unlike Frost,Schock, or Fire type of damage those have a chance to trigger a status effect.
Bleed damage is just physical damage with nothing extra to it.

Well, Crescent should also be modified. There's some inconsistency in what ZoS says and what they do.

    Bleed ^_^....

    Bleed is utter trash...
Wasn't it stupid to change it to physical damage?

I mean if I can remember, bleed gets reduced from physical armor correct? I mean I don't now if this is true for other DoTs...

I can't remember where I got this idea from probably another game.. but every time we stack a new bleed on the enemy we should be able to do a burst damage hit...similar to some other game i played...

The inate ability to "if you add another blood debuff, you do X amount of damage"

    So
    1.bleed one is on
    2. Bleed 2 is placed
    3. X Damage is done
    4. The bleeds continue to tick down
    5. Axe bleed activates (while the other bleed is on)
    6. X damage is done
    7. All bleeds are gone
    8. rinse repeat the bleeding process.
