Purple:
(2 items) Adds 804 Weapon/Spell Critical
(3 items) Adds 124 Weapon/Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 1435 Physical/Spell Penetration
(5 items) Adds 464 Weapon Spell Damage
Increases the cost of your active abilities by 4%.
Gold:
(2 items) Adds 833 Weapon/Spell Critical
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon/Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 1487 Physical/Spell Penetration
(5 items) Adds 481 Weapon Spell Damage
Increases the cost of your active abilities by 5%.

Also, the cost increase goes up to 5% at 2/5 gold pieces.

Hmmmm.... does the 1% change in cost increase outweigh the net DPS loss due to:

    ~3.5% decrease in crit;
    ~3.5% decrease in penetration; and
~3.5% decrease in weap/spell dmg (I added up the 3 + 5 pc damage bonuses)

I have no idea. I guess it needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis because the above losses are going to change based on a lot of factors.

The bonuses from going gold are:

    +0.1% crit chance
    +22 spell/weapon damage
    +52 penetration

Golding out the set might give you an extra 100-200 DPS. The 1% saved in ability cost is significantly more important here.

    I mean a 5% cost increase is 125% of a 4% cost increase...

That's a really good point. I still honestly don't know- we definitely can't sum up the percent changes for pen/damage/crit so it's really hard to compare. I can try testing in the PTS...

    Purple are better, indeed.

You miss 22 WD/SP, 29 critical, and 42 penetration. That´s way less important than 1% skill cost increased, specially with sustain issues nowadays.

Wait, to clarify, you can only have 1/5 yellow items of the set before it hits 5%? If so that precludes wearing it on jewelry, really, since crafted traits do scale well at yellow. And weapons, as well.

The 5% needs to be static and not affected by gear level. It's definitely better if left purple right now.

Ya but on jewelry your going to give up maxing trait % too and that sometimes doesn't pay out good depending the trait used
