Is animation cancelling (for dps) healthy for ESO?

Rungar

I do not care if you can do it or what your dps is. I ask only if you think that the current combat system which centers around animation cancelling for dps is healthy for this game. Please frame your responses in terms of why you think its either healthy or unhealthy. Try to use reasons and logic if you can. I say for dps because no one has any real issues with defensive animation cancelling which includes block and roll dodge. This only applies to light weaving, bash cancelling and maybe barswap cancelling which shorten animations for dps or offensive purposes.

had to update this to include some basic questions you might think about before responding. Frame them accordingly.

Does that requirement limit the number of people you can play with?
Does that requirement exclude you from dlc vet content?
Does that requirement make your hands hurt?
Do you feel it enables peoples cheating via macroing keyboards and gamepads?
Do you feel the game cannot be balanced with this system?
Do you feel this system inhibits performance?
Do you feel that this system drives people away from pvp prematurely and drives people away from endgame content?
Do you feel it makes the game look and feel ugly?
Do you feel it makes pvp bad because you cant see what the other player is doing?
Do you feel it lets people skip intended mechanics?
Do you feel like its just too much button clicking?
Do you feel your reaction speed is to slow for this to work well?
Do you feel that it relies too much on a good internet connection?
Do you feel that having to do it takes away from the enjoyment of the game?
Do you feel it inhibits you from adapting to changes made by zos?
Do you feel that having to relentlessly practice in front of a dummy is unreasonable to play the game?

    Don't be obstinate.
You can most definitely READ those threads and see what the answer to that question is from what people's responses are.

You people never learn to leave well enough alone.
If ZOS caves to the whines and "fixes" AC they will do it in a way that really screws up combat and that surely is worse for the game.

    It's a different question.

In theory, at least, it forces people, who would normally only answer from a self centred point of view, to think about what it is doing to the game, in general.

And every active thread on the topic has people stating their opinion about what it does/doesn't do to the game.
Not even in theory does it "force" people to think about it; they come into the thread with their opinion already formed and etched in stone.
No minds are being changed; it's just endless arguing, stating the same points over and over.

We don't need several different threads to have the same argument.

It isn't the same poll question, so it is valid, in my opinion.

More valid than the "Do you think it should be removed, or kept?" polls, in fact.

As they just elicit self centred answers, based on what people have become accustomed to.

What prompts a person to state whether or not it should be removed?
Answer: Their opinion of whether or not it's healthy for the game.

And a person's personal opinion on whether it's healthy for the game or not doesn't also come from a selfish place based on what they are accustomed to?

    It's the same question.

    This is hilarious.

You do realize that Training Dummies were a huge QOL improvement for players, especially for console players?
Without that, PC players had to go fight bosses, while Console players had to approximate their DPS as best they could from boss fights. Giving players the ability to practice their DPS is a great thing.

Furthermore, ZOS is encouraging this approach on PC with ESO Logs by making it possible for PC players to better evaluate their boss fights so they can further improve and refine how they play as a group.

Finally, the big shifts in DOT meta reveals why this "I have to relentlessly practice" has very little to do with weaving and cancelling. This patch, and next, you'll be practicing your new DPS rotation because ZOS changed your skills, while weaving and cancelling remained constant!

    Simply not true.

Many people answer from a purely subjective point of view.

Especially if they're not prompted to do otherwise.

There are three answers that sum up most of my thoughts.

    A. There are a lot of factors that go into whether players can or can't do end game PVP and PVE. Blaming weaving/cancelling as the determining factor is incredibly simplistic.

    B. ZOS doesn't see weaving/cancelling as a problem for performance, balance, accessibility, animation ugliness etc. Pretty sure they not only make the animations, they have the actual data and vision for performance and balance. So yeah, its the Devs' opinions that count.

    C. "Do you feel"...
    Anecdotes are not Data.
