ESO has a targeting problem (and the new pets are only making it worse)!

List of things that a SINGLE PET, one small pet, friendly or enemy, in front of your camera prevents you from doing:
  • Interacting with crafting stations
  • Talking to NPCs
  • Delivering quests
  • Using chests
  • Looting bodies
  • Reading books
  • Using single target abilities (including taunt!)
  • Bashing

With the Necro, this has gotten 10x worse. The Colossus blocks the whole view from a tank, my own Spirit Guardian sometimes prevents me from taunting an enemy... If you have a couple of PetSorcs, a Warden and a few Necros in your party, you might spend most of the fight readjusting your camera to avoid being blocked.

The Great Atronach can be cast ON TOP of bosses which completely prevent taunts if the boss has a small hitbox and does not move. I just had a PUG run in EH I with 3 Sorcs using that ulti and they kept casting it on top of boss. I could barely taunt it for most of the fight.

But the worst offender is the Matriarch... She is usually in the camera level so if you have 2 MagSorcs in group with them, you constantly need to readjust camera to be able to do the stuff I listed.

They said they will bring a bunch of Quality of Life improvements to next patch. Please take a look at targeting.

Pets and other summoned monsters obstructing your targeting is pretty annoying. They can also make it difficult to watch for moves you need to block. I can't stand that giant walking alligator when I am tanking. It seems like that thing purposely gets in my way just to screw with me. The Atronach thing you mention is bad about it as well.

All of this can be annoying in PvP as well.

So It would be nice if the developers could pay some attention to this. So I'm with you.

Yes. This is the core problem behind the "pets" problem at crafting locations. They need to make it so that pets, which cannot be selected anyway, are transparent to the targeting of anything else.

Oh yeah hehe. The Daedroth from the Maw of Infernal just LOVES to spawn right on top of the tank and completely prevent you from seeing animations or taunting. Really annoying.

In combat is one thing and there is an issue there.

The out of combat issues are pretty petty and I say that as someone who has been in game since launch. I rarely come across an issue where pets block me from interacting with a crafting station or vendor or other items and when I do it often is rectified by taking one step one way or another. It does seem that some people blow this way out of proportion.

The warden's bear and flappy wings of the Matriarch get in the way of looting corpses and chests all the time. What's more is that the bear wants to stand exactly where my character is standing, so that my character is basically standing inside the bear, and can easily block something right next to it.

WoW, so the few seconds the sorc is looting the corps is that big of a deal? Are you not able to take a step to the left or right when the bear is standing where you are?

My comment is very accurate with over 5 years in the game and probably over 40 hours per week average. Either you are very unlucky or are exaggerating how big of an issue this is for you.

Edit: I remember periods when pet sorcs were very strong and it was common to see 4 or more pet sorcs I none raid group. I never recall a problem looting a corps and I do a lot of raiding so there was much opportunity.

    1) They should not be positioning the bear to be standing on top of me. That action alone causes problems on multiple levels.
    2) I do frequently get into a situation where I have to time my pressing of "E" to avoid trying to activate the Matriarch wing.
    3) I should not have to wiggle around to grab something on the ground because of my own pets hovering over me.

Longtime player here as well. Yes, sorc pets get in the way usually at least a few times a day. The person you're responding to doesn't deserve the snark you're giving them, they are correct. I was also in those mostly-sorc raid groups, and it was a huge issue in them. So you must have just been very lucky, because most people haven't had nearly as nice an experience with sorc pets as the one you claim you have had.

It is an annoyance and obviously it is not the intended way to work.

Though my post was more about combat than anything else, I don't think the argument "it just happens sometimes" is not valid for not fixing it. It is just lazy.

Specially the Warden's bear near the pledge givers can by a HUGE pain in the ass. In Stormhaven a lot of times there will be 3 or 4 Bears at the same time.

So yes, most of the times you can move a little. But the whole point is that this shouldn't happen at all.

However, the main point of my post is about combat, specially pets preventing taunting, which is really serious and game-breaking in some situations.

I just found a new pet that I didn't see before: the Hunger that is spawned by one of the sets in Clockwork City, I think.

He basically spawns RIGHT ON TOP of the tank if the group is positioned right, also preventing taunting in some occasions.

Yeah, the Hunger from the Defilier set spawns right on top of the tank. It can also, in a few fights (I've seen in in Darkshade Caverns in the fight with all the floating tentacle monsters/netches) turn against the players and attack them instead of mobs. Pets can totally be annoying, yup.

Lol, such drama. You need to communicate with your group and stop crying, it is that simple. I have tanked all the vet trials and you need to {communicate} if there is an issue. People will listen, same with dungeon groups.

About the crafting thing, just go to your guildhall to finish your decons, research, writs, etc, etc....

It will save you any aggravation if it is that much of a hassle to you.

Zos shouldn't even bother with these drama threads when the OP hasn't even done the bare minimum. I bet they will now say, "I did do all that...."

It is not drama nor crying. It is an issue and multiple people have confirmed that.

the pve probkems arent that bad though annoying, the real issue is pvp. Wven if i have tab target and the player is clearly in my crosshairs i still sometimes meteor a pet. The EG and maw and chokethorn sets are particularly rediculous, they should be like betty netch instead.

Yeah, I never really noticed this that much before, but now with all the Necro pets added to mix it is getting more common.

Matriarch was always annoying but now we have a dozen or more pets sometimes.
