Please consider this idea.

Guild tabards are not the nicest looking fabrics. It takes away the look of your original armor. Also since we now have costumes we can not wear our costumes because we rather wear our tabards so we can support our guilds. What this does is force people to wear tabards so they can be synced in their guild communities; since the only way to show your guild is to wear the tabard and if you do not show your tabard your guild will not show either. It is a complicated system that is outdated and old.

I suggest that we remove the tabard system entirely and offer a cloak system or something that can be synced with our guilds; yet it can be personally customized to match players armor. Or just allow us to show our guild info and hide our tabard (put tabard in a different slot than costume). This way players do not have to choose between wearing their custom costumes and showing their guilds with a faulty tabard system.

Thanks and would love your thoughts.

Beneath is some inspiration of how the Cloak System will look.

Completely agree the system could do with an overhaul. At the very least just allow us to select which Guild shows with the nameplate without having to wear the tabbard.

The capes wont play well with the server load is my guess. I do like the idea though.

Or you know, provide a hide tabard function in the outfit station like we have been asking since outfit came out

Agreed. Showing your guild name should not be tied into the guild tabard. It was a cute idea back when we didn't have as many cosmetic options. I don't want to cover up my amazing outfit with an ugly tabard just to show my guild name. The other option is to cover it all with a costume, but that takes away the option to show my outfit.

Guild Wars 1 had capes and I don't know how they did it but no performance hit at all from the capes.

The capes were used to not only show off guilds but to show off the years champions as they got special gold trim capes.

No cloaks. The only ones the engine can handle look like the Breton Hero Costume i.e. stapled to our butts. No thanks. Tabards are ugly, but that is even uglier.

Just give my a "Guild Name Title" that I can add to my Nameplate for any of my guilds.

ESO tried capes once. They looked horrible! Like a stiff board on your back.
This has been brought up a hundred times. ZoS dropped them in alpha for a reason...
    No capes!

Game engine limitations. Zos can’t add cloaks without making lag exponentially worse.

The game engine is the bottom most basic level. Unreal is a game engine for example. When Zos started they used a modified Hero Engine and then built their own based on it. Think of it like cake. Something like adding cloaks or flying would require them to UNmake the cake down to its essential ingredients of eggs, butter, flour etc. They’ve already baked it and added too much frosting and toppings now, they can’t go back and add sugar to their cake batter. They’d have to make another cake from scratch.

AreaNet made their own engine for Guild Wars and not only did they put sugar in the batter they also put vanilla extract and lemon zest.

There has been many post about hiding Tabards and I do support them. I really wish hiding Tabards was an option cause I’d like to use all these motif styles I’ve collected (all of them) but still support my Guild/Guilds. I don’t think capes would work due to explained above and would also possibly add more strain on the servers. If hiding Tabards was a thing I believe it would convince more to use them helping GMs with recruiting cause a name alone can recruit for a guild.

It should be a title like achievements just different, I think having to buy a tabard to do this is dumb, and I know that there are better ways, Yeah u can unlock the guild title if you have 10 members would be good cuz u could do alot of trolling otherwise!

Cloaks will never work. The devs don't know how to do it right. The engine is not an excuse either. SWTOR runs on the same engine but an even older worse version and yet the cloaks and robes in swtor actually look good and dont look glued to your character.

Well, if we can't have cloaks or if folks are not happy with tabards there could be other guild rep options. Perhaps have "Bannerman" style, you see those in Dragonstar arena, or simply have guild name shown near character name. Perhaps have mounts display the tabard designs somehow.

Every zone except cities in GW1 was instanced to you and your group.
Even cities had multiple instances once one got too full.
THe graphics and moving objects in GW1 are far below what ESO is

If you want to see what cloaks would look like in this game, look at the Breton costume
Its stapled to your but, not exactly flowing and flapping in the breeze
