Pay to Win

Now that ESO is moving more towards a pay-to-win game... I think they should implement a means in which players can earn crowns within the game. The crown's could be tied to achievements or trophies. What do you think?

I think it would be fair to players who don't want to spend the money, or have the money to spend, but also don't want to be left behind by the players that have the money to quickly buy these new skills, skyshards etc

So because you can buy skill lines on ALTERNATE characters it is pay to win? Please, you have to grind the subsequent skill line on another character first before you can even unlock it on a second, third, etc. character.

Was it a seemingly huge money grab to buff all skills within purchasable skill lines to be almost BiS across the board? Yes. But you still had to grind at least once to get it done. It is not pay to win, it is pay for convenience.

Put down the pitchfork and get to grinding.

Absolutely, because that would mean account wide achievements and titles would be implemented to stop people from farming crowns.

The crowns would have to be once per account, otherwise players would create many alts to farm easy to get achievements for crowns.

If you really want to earn crowns in game, trade gold for crown store gifts.

I'll let you in on a little secret. These skill lines etc are just a ploy for ZOS to squeeze more money out of us than they'd get from adding class change tokens. Now you need to make a new character and buy everything for way over 10k crowns instead of one class change token worth 4000 or so crowns.

But yes, it's still not pay to win unless you are talking about lvl3 duelling tournaments, in which case it is I guess.

Pay to win, not pay to win....whatever.

The real deal here is Zos will never give crowns out for in game achievements. That would cut into thier profits. There's a reason they stopped giving out crown crates for log in rewards. Players could stock gems, instead of playing the lottery and buying crates.

If you want crowns, buy them or sub to ESO+.

No. An easier and safer way to trade crowns for gold between players sure, but earning crowns should never become an aspect of the game itself.

As mentioned above you need to complete the skill lines and collect the skyshards on one character first before you can even purchase them for others. No effort = no opportunity to purchase skill lines/skyshards regardless of how many crowns you have.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Why do we have to earn crowns when they could just add a fair gold alternative method for skyshards, and skill line upgrades. I mean like face it, they'd make earning crowns a grind fest as well too.

I don't necessarily mind this idea but what would the conversion of crowns to gold in that scenario? Like 500g per crown or 1k? I know on PC-NA I can sell for 200g per crown easy and sometimes more depending on the time, and I know PC-EU is more from seeing a few threads in the last month mention it.

It is P2W, especially in low level BGs / Cyro.

Tell me, if I create a new alt, what level I will be at, if I will max out fighters guild, mages guild and undaunted ? It is hell of a grind and I do believe that I will be at max level (50) by the time I will level those skills up. Not to mention that I will have to explore some zones in order to get skill points from skyshards.

With that being said, If I will create new alt, and right after tutorial I can literally BUY fully levelled skills lines and skill points... and still be at level 3. This means that I can just level up to level 10 to unlock PvP, and start PvPing while having access to all those skills like: Meteor, Dawnbreaker, Turn Evil, Undaunted passives... And on top of that I will still have access to low-level up scaling bonus.

The point is: There is no other way to get those skill lines and still be low level other than paying for it, which means that player who paid RL MONEY has an advantage over some one who did not, meaning that it is in fact, PAY TO WIN.

Purchasing skill lines is not pay to win.

There is no incentive for ZoS to allow crowns to be earned through game play.

Even if they did allow it do you expect it would be quicker than just getting the skill lines in game?

The gold alternative is a worse idea than the crown store idea that has been put in place. There are players that can make a few million gold each week through trading. Selling a few rare motifs shouldn't be a way to advance a skill line.

It isn’t pay to win because:
    1. The effect of being ahead doesn’t last past low level BGs.
    2. The skills aren’t required to be competitive.
    3. Low level BGs don’t have any scoring passed the end of the BG, no global measurements...I’m drunk and forget the name. Basically, it doesn’t mean anything.

Players that pay monthly sub shouldn’t have to pay $30/skill line to unlock this stuff. They could have easily been made available in game for in-game currency, at least for subscribers.

To not realize that ZOS is doing huge cash grab with this stuff from people that play for free as well as those that pay sub and has crossed the line to P2Win is what I would consider naïve.

The game is already pay-to-win, and already replete with predatory monetization models. This absolutely needs to happen if this game has any chance of actually having an ethical microtransaction shop. Which is precisely why it won’t happen. Not unti enough kids get their heads out of the dirt and recognize how bad it has gotten in this game... and respond with their wallets snapping shut.

Increasingly pay to win multiplicative starting with zero.

It is a cash grab but so is all the pretty ponies and they are not pay to win either.

I see buying skill lines as more a pay not to play scenario and to me that is a silly thing to pay for.

Ugh, not this again. Its not P2W until they put stuff like VMA weapons or trials gear in the crown store. Things you have to complete content to obtain, are not obtainable in other ways, are locked behind typically difficult content, and you only get a set number of items per completion. Like a VMA bow or dagger or staff, etc.

Skill lines for sale are the classic "how much is your time worth" marketing approach, especially as you have to have completed the skill line on one of your characters.
